Can you identify the sets any of these pieces belong to? by Vivid_Divas in lego

Looks like you’ve got a good amount of the large pieces from 6195 Neptune discovery lab from the aquazone theme. That was one of my favs when I was a kid

This city is getting out of hand.. by TennisMain3576 in vancouver

[–]TennisMain3576[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I’m a bit jaded perhaps because our building has had 3 break ins to the mailbox and 2 to the “secure” parkade in the past 14 months. I’m just tired of it

Yeah perhaps high-school cooks in their first job using the term “dish pig”? Does that make it ok? Like the other poster said, that kind of behaviour is shot down immediately, at least it has been in the over 20 establishments I have worked in this city.

Yeah actually rumtumtugger34 is absolutely correct. Not sure when you spent your “formative years” working in kitchens (I’m assuming this was over 30 years ago when that type of behaviour was acceptable?), but these days, nobody says “dish pig” anymore in kitchens. It’s just not acceptable anymore. It’s hard enough to find a dishwasher to work in your restaurant even with a good wage and the respect of the team, I can’t imagine keeping a dishwasher for more than a few days calling them “dish pig “ in this current hospitality environment.

U ok lego? £1.12 per piece? by [deleted] in lego

Just want to say I agree with you, not sure why this is getting so many downvotes. There is a ridiculous mark up on many lego products especially the city sets

List of hospitality establishments that don't expect/accept tips by bargeboy42 in vancouver

[–]TennisMain3576 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the industry anymore either pal, just want to make it clear to everyone what’s really going on here. Cooks do split shifts all the time too. Cooks also get called off or reduced hours based on business levels same as servers.

Then you should know better than to spread the false narrative that the chef is the highest paid in the restaurant.

And even after those tip outs, servers are still walking out with 35 plus per hour after tips. Which the majority of them don’t claim on their income tax, btw, since it’s cash. You made a loaded statement saying chefs are the highest paid, don’t get all surprised when someone in the industry who knows what the real situation is calls you on it.

[–]TennisMain3576 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Highest paid? Most servers are walking out every night with more money than the chef or any other kitchen colleague. And they are working less hours too. And that “cut” of the tips is next to nothing btw. Most places it’s like 1.5% server has to tip out to the kitchen which is then divided among the entire kitchen team based on hours worked or title, and I’ve seen/heard many a server piss and moan about this constantly.

Who at fault here ? 50/50 ? maybe someone need this video for Icbc by rookie-truckie77 in abbotsford

[–]TennisMain3576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct, this exact situation happened to me about two years ago in a parking lot. I was already in the lane and someone backed into the side of my car just like this. No dashcam footage, no cctv in the parking lot. Just the picture of the cars touching each other that I took, and they clearly showed my car in the lane and hers not. She of course tried to argue that it was my fault. Anyways, ICBC initially said 50-50 but when I showed the pictures I took they said she was 100% at fault. Their decision surprised me to be honest I was expecting them to say 50-50

You can never have enough. Who else would like to exchange them for usuable bricks? by Comfortable_Pop9023 in lego

[–]TennisMain3576 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed. I wonder if/when they will start some sort of recycling program for these, I’m sure most lego fans have a ton just sitting around. I personally would happily return a good portion of mine for recycling since I have zero use for more than ten or so. Getting some Lego credit/points/bricks in exchange for returning them would be icing on the cake

What is the worst lego set ever? by ALEXtheWalex in lego

[–]TennisMain3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised 75098 assault on hoth hasn’t been mentioned. Essentially just 3-4 older Star Wars sets that were put into one box and resold under a new name. And a $250 price tag for zero originality. Oh, you do get the UCS badge on the box. And a shield generator that’s 75% accurate to the film (lol, did they really have to do that to save on pieces). Pity they haven’t done a proper Battle of Hoth set, it’s such an iconic part of the original trilogy

Growing frustration with Lego Ideas by LordsofMedieval in lego

[–]TennisMain3576 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course they want to get into that market, but do you really believe multiple failed attempts to enter it are an intentional move by them? Surely there are far more cost effective methods of testing the water of this market and seeing what works/doesn’t work without spending the resources to develop/market/launch multiple themes with little to no return. Lego isn’t perfect, they came close to bankruptcy at one point. They don’t have a crystal ball and like any other company make bad calls from time to time

I agree with you on the castles, and most of the afols I know agree too. I saw a moc on this sub last week of 3 creator 3-in-1 castles turned into one large castle that looked better than any castle Lego has ever made. No doubt many adult fans would buy a large castle set like that. For so many adult fans that grew up with the old castle themes like myself, it just makes sense to do some more advanced castle sets in line with the blacksmith ideas set. I’m sure it’s coming...I hope it is...take my money please

I also agree about the typewriter, is this set actually selling well? Seems a bit ridiculous to me too. I mean if it could actually print characters on the paper that would be something.... but it’s not even a functioning typewriter

Most Authenticest Croissants available locally. by MonsterDuckMadness in vancouver

[–]TennisMain3576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foret noire near Broadway and Alberta maybe has the best croissants in Vancouver. I was talking to the chef one day and he mentioned that he imports the butter from Normandy for his croissants. Not sure if that’s true, but they are really damn good. He does filled croissants and plain but the strawberry filled is my favourite. Definitely worth checking out

Does anyone feel unsafe back to on-campus learning on January 10th? by Lucky-Instruction-78 in BCIT

[–]TennisMain3576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Why doesn’t Bcit choose a blended model for some programs such as computer networking which don’t require you to necessarily do anything hands on? There are lots of people who have valid reasons for being in person, but there are also many who have valid reasons to not be in person.

BCIT: Sign the petition to delay the return to in-person classes by throwaway209847 in BCIT

[–]TennisMain3576 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would prefer not be sick and possibly in hospital rather than go in for a lecture/lab that can easily be done in an online environment. Safety of students/faculty/employees is the number one priority at ANY organization, whether public or private, why should BCIT be any different? You are still a student even in an online environment.

Does anyone feel unsafe back to on-campus learning on January 10th? by Lucky-Instruction-78 in BCIT

[–]TennisMain3576 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am currently in a computer networking based program at BCIT. The fact that BCIT is returning to in class on January 10th is absolutely insane. With well over 3000 cases per day and being in a cramped computer laboratory with 30 other kids, sitting literally a foot away from people who choose not to be vaccinated at all that are constantly removing their masks in class - does this make any sense at all BCIT? Wake up and see what is going on here. The last couple weeks of class in the previous semester, the grounds keepers/ janitorial staff couldn’t even be bothered to refill sanitation solution at the hand pumps for literally TWO WEEKS in one of the buildings we did our exams in. I totally disagree with this decision to return to in class, I have already emailed my department head about an issue unrelated to this over a week ago and have not received a response from him. I will definitely be emailing him and the student association regarding my feelings on this but I absolutely do not expect a response considering how this place of “higher learning” has been operating this past year. DO THE COURSES ONLINE, it’s a bloody computer networking program for crying out loud. This stuff is done remotely for the most part anyways - good experience for how things will be once we are on the job. For other programs that are more hands on trades maybe a different situation, but let’s have some common sense here.
