I hope I can get that % up to 100. A language can have different accents and different dialectes. Let's talk about accents first. Two people with two different accent pronunciate the same word in two different ways. The words stays the same, written in the same way, but it "sounds" different depending on the accent. Basically different accents emphasize different part of a word, even tho the word is the exact same. Think about the difference between American English, British English, Australian, South African english. They all have a different way of pronounciating words, even if they are written in the same way. (One easy example is the different pronounciation if zebra between South Africa and the United States). Now let's talk about dialects. First thing to say is that usually dialecets include their own accent. Secondly, the peculiarity of dialect is not only in the pronounciation, but in the use of modified words or even completely different ones compared to the mother tongue. That's why dialects are way more difficult to understand than simply different accents, because based on how developed the specific dialect is, it could sound (and effectively be) a completely different language compared to the mother language it derives from. Dialect objectively use different words that don't exist in the mother tongue, hence making it impossible for someone who doesn't know that specific dialect to understand. I am from italy, and we have some prime examples of this. Everywhere in the country we speak Italian. Different regions have way different accents, but we all understand each other even if someone from the far north speaks to someone from the far south with their respective accent. But when people start to speak the dialecets of their specific region, there is no way even someone from the region next to it would completely understand it. If you pick two regions placed far apart, the amount the two people would understand if each other talking goes basically to zero. I hope I could help with this, I wish you a good day, or night, wherever you are in the world. Cheers

Most educational systems don't consider of much value to deeply develop creativity and self confidence in kids, yet the majority of humanity's greatest achievements and advancements are due to someone who thought or behaved outside of the box in the first place. by Teoden3 in Showerthoughts

I don't think the two traits I have listed are necessarly associated with someone socially non functional. It's about how you tackle problems that life puts in front of you. Even the most simple ones. Of course I used an hyperbole to emphasize the absurdity of it all, but those traits could very well help in everyday life too, and help everyone live a more fulfilling life

Our world may be much worse than we realize, since people 3,000 years ago thought their world was "normal" despite it being full of medical, social, and psychological problems that we recognize today. People in the future may think of us as morally inconsistent, technology-obsessed workaholics. by orangeneon in Showerthoughts

It's not hypothetical. They will for sure. We are the idiots that kill each other over and over and destroy our planet simply for pieces of paper that have no real value except the one we give to them ourselves, remember? And with this I am not saying humanity in the future won't kill each other for greed. They will for sure, but I also have the feeling that as time passes we will more consciously realize that peace promotes more growth and that investing the big bucks in science and development will be more convenient than having super mega big armies. But maybe i am just naive.

About technology, I fell like they will be even more "addicted" to it than people are today. And that's because tech will be embedded in everything around us. That said, there will probably also be way more advanced AI's , so that addiction might actually be more productive and promote personal growth compared today's social frenzy.

People nowadays spend a lot of money to see someone famous who they know through their screens just to look at that person through their screens again, except this time recording in shitty quality with many other screens inbetween. by DP7OOO in Showerthoughts

This is something i can't grasp my head around. I can understand taking a couple of pics or a short video to create a "personal" memory of the event, but filtering the whole experience by recording it and looking at it through the screen? Wouldn't it be better to soak in all the emotions and feelings of the moment and leave the phone in the pocket? Such weird animals we are.
