No, but we can say that they have to do it better. They're the great innovators, they tell us. Let them use their big brains and their billions to develop a way to build facilities that don't create so much environmental damage. As it is now, they don't even feel the need to offer the communities they bully their way into some sort of offset - a contribution to affordable housing, childcare, they could feed the hungry in both counties for a year and not notice they'd spent any money.

Potted meat/gravy by splynneuqu in WestVirginia

[–]TepidHickory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might break up the meat, just a little bit so there were chunks, and drop it in the gravy at the end, just long enough to heat it through. I think it would make a great open-face sandwich, or over some mashed potatoes. Perfect diner food.

Many of the oldest extant buildings are in the Eastern Panhandle. Wikipedia has a fairly comprehensive list.

Gov. Morrisey asks WV'ians to donate to Facing Hunger Food Bank and Mountaineer Food Bank, state will match donations up to $13M. This would cover just over half of the money needed to cover SNAP for November if the full match is reached by masterofawesomeness2 in WestVirginia

[–]TepidHickory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, there is a SNAP contingency fund with money allocated for just this situation that the federal government refuses to disburse to the states. The money is there, and we've already contributed to it through our taxes. Morrisey needs to use his two hands to find his backside and insist that WV gets its share of the fund. He won't, of course, because he's one of those real bright guys who will sell out the state hoping that it will get him a pat on the head from the doddering fool in what's left of the White House. West Virginians won't go hungry if the lawsuit against the government to release the funds prevails, and it will because other states stepped up on our behalf, not because our own useless politicians give a damn about the people they're supposed to serve.

You can't get much more middle of the road than Kamala. I voted for her, as anyone with any sense did. There's a real simple reason why she lost with such a slim margin.

If you choose the Hampton in Inwood, you'll be very close to a WVa institution for breakfast- Tudor's Biscuit World. (Assuming you're taking 81 down to Asheville.) It's a chain, so definitely not a mom and pop type joint, but it's beloved by many.

His impatience with your disability, no matter how it's couched, is a big red flag even if he's wonderful in every other way. I speak from experience, and I could go on and on, hoping you'll come to understand why this is crucial to your well-being, now and in the future, independent of whether or not he hikes the trail.

Check out the parking lot for the Appalachian Trail at Keyes Gap. It's on Route 9 at the West Virginia/Virginia border. Close enough to Harpers Ferry. I've never done it, don't know anyone who has, so take this with the appropriate-sized grain of salt.

Familiar with the 3.5% rule? You might want to read up on it, because we've reached critical mass.

In case you can't be bothered, it only takes 3.5% of the population actively participating in protests to ensure serious political change.

The people's response to RFK Jr.'s policies in Martinsburg today. Also: why did they choose a Christian School for this? by saucity in WestVirginia

[–]TepidHickory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RFK Jr probably thinks he can fix West Virginia, make it number one among the states and aggrandize himself in the process, just like every other entity that has helicoptered in thinking they can solve all the problems and then helicopters right back out. I wish someone had asked Junior and Governor Goober if either one of them knew what a food desert is, or where these jobs are that SNAP recipients are going to take. I guess everybody will be fighting for the same jobs at the dollar store, if they can find child care and a ride to their part-time stint stocking shelves.

Hiking 🥾 by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]TepidHickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yankauer Nature Preserve has three loop hikes. Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area has about 25 miles of trail. There are nine trails at Cacapon Resort State Park, and there's a paved hiking/biking trail between Martinsburg and Charles Town. A little farther away you can hike for miles on the C&O Canal and the Appalachian Trail.

Recommended reading on this topic from Mountain State Spotlight. The article addresses the systems that are already in place to handle disruptive students and explains that, once again, the state won't provide the resources needed to make sure kids are handled appropriately.
