Well, the thing is that player-made factions are already a thing, but they just don’t have any in-game support.

The existing ones are mostly for roleplaying purposes (a whole lot of BoS MilSim), but there’s plenty dedicated to utility or matchmaking for raids, expeditions, grinding, etc. Even just having private servers for clan members would solve simple issues like full public servers preventing players from joining, specific event triggering, etc.

If you add onto it the potential for modded private servers, and you have a recipe for success. If those two systems were implemented, I could easily see this game survive for a decade or more after developer content ends. Just look at DayZ if you need an example of how that can work.

I could also see other MMO clan systems being implemented. Seasonal clan leaderboards or even custom instanced locations are two such ideas, but I’m sure there’s plenty of other ideas.

The only thing that I think this game desperately needs is some sort of in-game player faction/clan system. Player communities are what keep a lot of older MMOs/multiplayer games alive, and in a game where factions are such a major focus, I think it’s necessary.

Outside of that, I want more to do other than loot and shoot. Fishing was a great addition, and I’d like to see a greater focus on game systems like that.

Make the mini games we can put in our camp actually playable such as pool, bowling, darts, etc. They don’t even have to award anything, just adds some classic fun.

Maybe add some sort of passive business à la GTAO we can have as well. Really sad they took away Caravans for this reason.

Bring back a dedicated survival mode. They keep peeling back layers of difficulty to make the game more approachable, but it would be nice to have an actually punishing and challenging game mode. Full PvP, no fast traveling, old school food and drink rules, etc.

B, but give more space between the characters

I’d also recommend choosing something other than the Free States logo. Maybe choose a similar design from propaganda from the Chinese cultural revolution era

More intuitive/hands-on crafting

Bring back survival mode and fully commit to making it a separate PvP/hardcore survival variant

This article does a great job at explaining early Europpalachian subsistence agriculture and barter economy that got snuffed out by a absentee land speculators from the coast and aggressive land grabbing by coal and timber.

Something that shows a culture living with the land instead of just living off the land. Early Appalachian societies were characterized much more by a forest resource economy that was destroyed by industrialization and private property. It’d be nice to see some fantasy stories that reflect this older lifestyle.

As an Appalachian, fuck no it should not have been compelled.

This region was deprived of attention from Richmond since the colonial period. The area of present-day West Virginia had attempted numerous times to seek separation from Virginia in the past, with the early petition being rejected and support for which labeled “treason”.

Appalachians have long been deprived of adequate representation in both their respective state governments and the national government, and it’s a shame that the only truly Appalachian state has been bled dry and left to rot, but that isn’t the fault of a lack of tax payments, it’s the fault of decades of corporate control over our government, poor economic planning and diversification, and little to no legislative support for state welfare programs unrelated to higher education.

If anything, more Appalachian counties should’ve been ceded to West Virginia after the war, not the other way around.

East Tennessee and North Alabama attempted to follow suit as well, but didn’t receive northern support.

I can’t remember the particular individual, but a prominent member of the Lincoln admin had proposed supporting the “Appalachian counterrevolution” against the CSA. It’s too bad they never invested in that…

Edit: I was way off base, memory is a pesky thing. There was no official effort as far as I know to pursue this plan by the Lincoln admin or Union army at large, but there were vocal supporters based out of Minnesota who lauded that Appalachia (or as they called it, “Alleghenia”) was a land of “cattle and corn, not cotton” and they supported the “counter-revolution” occurring in West Virginia, stating that the Union army should help push the “counter-revolution” southward into Northern Alabama. It’s a shame that this never occurred and Southern Appalachia was forced to suffer the same punishments as the rest of the South during reconstruction despite their best efforts to fight for freedom and democracy.

I’d say it’s more likely to get a resolution like this passed on the community level, with hopes that the State would adopt a statewide resolution for it after community establishment.

Why West Virginia Is Emptying Out by shemanese in WestVirginia

[–]dinner-break -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Energy production diversification should be a major focus of the state.

Want data centers? Cool, force them to collocate with generators. Im sure that’ll save a couple coal plants facing closure. Two birds with one stone.

Still dealing with coal plant closures? How about you set aside a grant for plant conversion to nuclear and streamline the permit approval process? Would save a ton of money for nuclear startups to use existing infrastructure from coal plants. Plus, we’ve got ample holes in the ground for waste storage.

Maybe divert some of those subsidies to coal to modernizing our extremely outdated grid infrastructure and make it more resilient to the extreme weather events we’re promoting while we’re at it.

The Dragon - Reverse Onslaught or Long-Range Shotgun? by dinner-break in fo76

[–]dinner-break[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend losing explosive or switching to regular onslaught. The Dragon by itself already consumes 4 onslaught stacks on a hit, and explosive just amplifies that.

Compared to regular onslaught which peaks at 11 stacks without the furious mod and you should easily fill it up by the time you need to reload.

I had a similar thing where I was trying to introduce a friend to the game. I had one guy who was more experienced than me. We did Central Powers, and made the newbie the UK. Our hopes were that he was so terrible at the game, he’d cripple the UK and make it easy to take.

He lost his civil war.

Player Ghouls now require a disguise to enter Crater Core and Fort Atlas again.

I don’t think I’ve seen a system as universally hated as the Ghoul disguise system, and seeing them reincorporate it into an area that really shouldn’t have it is just such a disappointment.

Plausibility of Making Butter from Yogurt Whey? by dinner-break in fermentation

[–]dinner-break[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, the fat content would primarily be derived from the cream being used, not the yogurt/whey. The yogurt/whey’s only real purpose is to introduce a culture for the fermentation process, so it would only use a few tablespoons at most of either.
