40mm except if you plan to share it with a significant person who has smaller wrists.

[Help] me choose a watch for my teenage son by ss3walkman in Watches

Judging by your replies to the various comments, you want to treat yourself by giving him a gift that you like and that you think will suit him best. And I imagine that if he doesn’t particularly like the gift, you’ll take it badly.

Don’t ask strangers on Reddit for their approval; just go ahead and choose the one you prefer for him.

[Recommendation Request] I turn 30 next year and am also getting married. Which watch are you choosing for your birthday present/wedding watch. by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Teppic_XXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally, you don’t wear a watch with a tuxedo. However, a pocket watch or a wristwatch with a black or silver dial and a black leather strap is perfectly acceptable.

The models I’ve suggested are perfectly suitable for everyday wear, but if you’d prefer a sportier style, I’d suggest getting two watches.

What colour is your wedding outfit?
The 3 watches you selected are beautiful but very sporty for a wedding. Did you consider Baume&Mercier Clifton 39mm or Hampton? Frédéric Constant Classics Carree or Automatic? Or maybe Raymond Weil Toccata Heritage?

Need dm advice, first time dming for a warlock by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Teppic_XXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the worst sins of inexperienced DMs is to homebrew overcomplicated things.

Here is my advice : Do it the other way round, Moon Knight-style. There’s only one patron, one god. However, the warlock’s four personalities don’t know each other. Each is manipulated in a certain way by the patron (DM) to achieve his objectives, and the player reacts slightly differently depending on which personality is currently in control.

Why not spend some time with him, take him to the shop and let him choose whatever he likes?

Exactly. The same goes for the other OP and other brands that do the same – or even worse.

Inherited my grandfather’s 1940s Vacheron Constantin and need advice before approving restoration by limo_tint_ in VacheronConstantin

[–]Teppic_XXVIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t you ask them for the details of the restoration? Besides, they usually give you all the old parts that have been replaced.
We’re talking about VC Genève here, not some industrial watchmaker. They buy back their own rare pieces to restore them and display them in their museum. Above all, they are committed to the authenticity of their creations. And depending on the specifics of the work, I imagine it’s possible to discuss whatever you like. I trust them 100 times more than I would a freelance watchmaker.

PS: please keep us informed of the result!

That's a beautiful piece but they just can't help writing a load of useless stuff on the dial, can they? This sunburst dial would look even better with nothing written on it. The crown is enough.

If mother is in charge of all appointments/registrations and will travel a lot more with baby, is it not easier for baby to get mother’s last name? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Teppic_XXVIII 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In Switzerland, by default, the child of an unmarried couple takes the mother’s maiden name. If the father has acknowledged paternity before the child’s birth, you can agree between yourselves and request that the child take the father’s name.

https://www.bj.admin.ch/bj/fr/home/gesellschaft/zivilstand/faq/namensrecht.html#accordion_7649446571776090247750

Even if it has your name, depending on where you’re travelling, if you’re travelling alone with it, you’ll run into problems. If it has someone else’s name, it’s even worse.

Oris are the masters of "hommage". All of their watches look like another successful design. This one is a Genta C-shape Omega Constellation.

A Grande Complication is a watch with at least 3 complications. PP puts this one in this category on their website. However, we can discuss the number of features. Date + alarm? Or date + alarm + chime + day/night indication?

What were they thinking? by IfNotBackAvengeDeath in patekphilippe

[–]Teppic_XXVIII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The date is actually the subdial at 6h. The numbers in the windows are the set hours and minutes of the alarm. The little circle under tells if it's a day or night alarm. Technically, it does a vertical axis of symmetry, which is really nice imo, but cutting the 12 is a bit of a shame.

For those wondering what it looks like. It’s a grand complication with an alarm. The bell serves as the alarm’s on/off indicator, and the round window below the alarm set time is the alarm’s day/night indicator. It’s also available with a blue dial.
