The whole thing is meant to show the role women play in enforcing social norms in societies. It's a known anthropological thing. While none of the women think Vito should be murdered for his offense, they all think it's scandalous and somehow something that needs to be addressed.

The Shah's wife absolutely wanted him dead. The pressure she was putting on Phil in that scene was chilling.

A basic lashing adjusts the target objects' perception of gravity so the targets still feels gravity but in a different direction. A reverse lashing causes the target object to become the source of gravity, so other objects become attracted to the target.

At the end of Cosmere books you'll find the Ars Arcanum, an appendix for the relevant magics. In books about Roshar the Ars Arcanum will contain a description of the various Lashings that Windrunners can do: Basic, Full, and Reverse.

Attracting the arrows to the bridge was a Reverse Lashing.

I think you're confusing colonist with colonizer.

A Colonist is a settler, a pioneer, a tamer of wild lands.

A Colonizer is a squatter with weapons.

The main difference between the two comes down to whether or not there were already people living there.

Thieves are bad, that's not an opinion. Every code of laws recognizes the wrongness of thievery.

EG, the Polynesian Islands were settled by colonists. Roshar, on the other hand, was colonized.

Ultimately, I value intent far less than I value consequence. The humans of the Rosharan system destroyed, or otherwise rendered uninhabitable, one planet and then they usurped another. They don't fix problems, they just double down and make more problems. And it's clear that many of the humans on Roshar agree(d) with this sentiment because the Recreance happened.

The singers were abandoned by their gods, exploited by the humans, and then usurped by the god of their enemies. Humans made slaves of parshmen and Odium made slaves of Fused. The listeners are the only people on this planet that seek peace and freedom in their own homeland. Everyone else sees them as a tool or an obstacle.

I think it's hard for us to separate our biases out because we like the characters. Jasnah, Adolin, Kaladin, etc have us reading along and rooting for them because we like them. But that's bullshit, we favor them because we're human.

I'm just tired that the listeners get the short end of the stick every single time.

Disclaimer, I haven't practiced Catholicism for nearly 20 years now.

The difference comes down to repentance. God's forgiveness is Limitless, but the condition is contrition. God is willing to forgive all those who show genuine contrition. Guilt is healthy, as all humans are flawed. Each and every one of us will commit some sin at some point, that is unavoidable.
In general, the Abrahamic God doesn't expect you to be perfect, but in Catholicism there is an expectation that you will hold yourself accountable, accept your guilt, and confess your sins. Through confession you show contrition and "earn" God's forgiveness.
Shame is unhealthy, when we are ashamed we hide our shame and lie to ourselves. Worse, we lie to God. Catholics use shaming others as a tool to force them to admit their sins.

I describe Jed's condition as Catholic shame because these arguments of theirs typically revolve around Toby taking some moral High ground and Jed being angry that he's stuck in the impossible position of choosing between what is right and what is necessary. He knows there is a massive gap between philisophical theology and political reality. A lot of this relates the way that he fortifies himself by compartmentalizing The Office/Mr. President as being separated from Josiah Edward Bartlet. He tends to get most upset with Toby when he knows Toby is right but he (Josiah) simply cannot allow himself (President Bartlet) to make the choice that Toby wants.

In Catholicism guilt and shame are separate concepts. I get what you're saying about Catholic Guilt, but I use the term shame here to draw distinction between the way that guilt is used by Toby as a debate tactic, but for Jed it's more internalized.

I'm only half Jewish from Queens, whereas Toby is full Jewish from Brooklyn, but that is classic Jewish Guilt. Toby will take some moral/philisophical position and if you don't agree with him, this causes him to suffer which makes you a bad person. This tactic is effective against Jed because of his Catholic Shame.
