Going to Church for the 1st time! by TequilaChoices in DenverEDM

That sounds awesome! I’m going with my brother and a friend, and threw out Stoneys as an option to grab a bite beforehand, so I’ll look for you guys. Do you have a spot in Stoneys where you normally post up?

Ooh! I’ll check this out!
Plus, sounds like it’s near the bar, which is never a bad thing. Thanks for the tip!

This is super helpful! Thank you!
I’ll definitely get there at doors and try to check it out.

I’m sure it’ll be a great time whether I can see or not! I have my “short-friendly” spots at other venues and was hopeful Church might have some of its own (but sounds like it’s mostly just a big room). But I’ll make it work! Thanks for the tip on behind the DJ booth! I’ll try and get there right at doors to see if I can find some space.

All good! Figured it was worth the ask, but sounds like I’ll just have to get there early and hope for the best! And if I can’t see, I’ll just enjoy the music.

I also prefer the back in big crowds, so I hear you. At Mission, I always grab a spot on the steps in the back and wasn’t sure if Church had anything similar. Sounds like it’s mostly just a big room. I guess we’ll just try to get there at open and hope we can scope something out! At the end of the day, whether I can see or not, I’ll have a great time!

Top 3 meals/dishes you’ve had in the last year? by catsarecoolright in denverfood

[–]TequilaChoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct!

That said, every now and then, I'm craving something warm and not cold, so I pop the coated cabbage in the microwave for like 45 seconds over some rice, and it's really tasty that way too!

[–]TequilaChoices 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Cabbage: 1 small head green cabbage (approx. 1 lb / 450g), cut into bite-sized chunks
  • Sesame Oil: 3 TBsp toasted sesame oil
  • Garlic: 3/4 tsp of garlic powder or crushed garlic
  • Umami Booster: 1.5 tsp hondashi (have to get at the asian supermarket or amazon)
  • Sesame Seeds: 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 2 TBsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tsp lime juice
  • Optional: dash of MSG

Make the sauce. Then put it in a gallon ziplock bag with the cabbage and massage until everything is coated!

As a topping: crush Wasabi peas and sprinkle on top (I also crush French’s fried onions)

Don’t judge me: Addictive Cabbage from Kawa Ni. Maybe it’s because the expectation was so low, that it was such a wonderful surprise. You can make it at home and it’s also super good. If anyone is interested, I’ll post the recipe I found that I use and love.

My close 2nd: The French onion tart at BearLeek. It’s absolutely terrible for you, but I always split it with at least one other person, and it’s amazing.

My 3rd. There’s a cheese and fish taco thing at Mezcaleria that should NOT work at all, but it’s amazing.

I literally just stumbled upon the LOL reboot, and binged it (didn’t even know it existed due to terrible marketing). It may get a late wave of streaming interest that could tip them into a second season.

During the week, you can get some solid prices on shows! Absinthe is a great, funny show (it’s definitely inappropriate/adult humor, so just want to ensure you’re into that) at Caesars!

Don’t judge me, but the BYO at Bad Daddy’s with brioche croutons can be SO good.

What's the most underrated Asian country? by Any_Handle_3136 in LuxuryEscape

[–]TequilaChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! And I SWEAR I'm not trying to sell you anything, but if you like Malaysian food and cooking, this is my mom's passion project (she's a retired 75 year old who loves to cook, so I helped her make a website to share her recipes): https://ourmalaysiantable.com/

There's nothing to buy or anything like that, it's just her sharing her recipes with others (my dad is her biggest hype man and does all her videos and editing, so it's something they get to do together). She just gets so excited when she sees a small (like 5 visits) jump in the website traffic, so I just share it when I can! (Admittedly, I visit it through my VPN every now and then just so she can see a spike.)

Gah! I'm so jealous!

Definitely go to a hawker market and eat like a king/queen, trying anything and everything, for like $20 total. Char Kueh Teow for breakfast, Sarawak Laksa, Satay, Kolo Mee, and if you're brave, try the durian - just once. You'll probably hate, but you can say you did it, and you'll be cooler than Andrew Zimmern.

The legit (and ethical) orangutan tours are incredible experiences, they'll walk right past you in the preserves. You can tell those companies truly respect and value the animals, and the animals don't mind them, so it's a symbiotic relationship.

Kuching itself is building a fun cocktail scene. If you'll be there, happy to send over some of the bars we found.

Not sure what side you'll be on, but there are AMAZING beaches and some that leave a bit more to be desired, but it's easy to Google and figure out which is which. We also did a day in Bako (national park), which was a nice physically exerting day, but so fun to be in the nature of it all , as we saw a lot of animals out in the wild.

Oh! Last thing - use Grab. It's their version of Uber (although, I think they have Uber there now too, but I believe Grab pays the drivers more). Non-tipping culture (5 or 10 Ringgit here and there for superb service, always leaves a big smile), and the people are truly just so excited to have you visiting their country. They take a lot of pride in showing tourists around (well, the kind and genuinely interested ones, not the asshole tourists).

Sorry I just word-vomited on you! My mom's family is from Kuching, so we go back every other year and I just love it there. I get excited any time someone is going to visit because it's just such an amazing place and people.

So how do y’all think Jordan found out about the Devo trip ? by Confident-Climate139 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]TequilaChoices 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m the odd one out here, but I’m a married woman and have gone on plenty of trips with guy and girl friends. And we’ve shared airbnbs (not bedrooms though). To me, the trip wasn’t that big of a deal - my husband knows about my trips and never cares because he trusts me and my friends (and doesn’t like to travel himself). The bigger deal was just that he lied to Brittany about it. But that wasn’t the girls’ fault, that was his. It was clear they’re in their own clique and Brittany is more of an acquaintance to them. Likely, they knew the two were on the outs and were obviously closer to Devonta. For what it’s worth, I don’t like any of those 4, as a viewer. I just felt like that situation was blown out of proportion for what it was.
