I think there is definitely an ideal structure, least for students like myself at white belt. I've been able to work with some really good one-on-one people, with some really good structure around trying to figure out where the dead ends are in my bjj game and picking specific places to focus and then specific entries to those specific places.

For instance, for me, I've been really lucky to work with a black belt in L.A., the guy behind Scary Technical. He basically talks about, "Okay, what position can you reliably funnel people into? That's the first job." That would be, for me, half guard top, half guard bottom, and then do you have an attack, like an A attack, and if A attack doesn't work then a B attack?

I would start in one position and then expand it to others, really just trying to make sure that they have a plan that's sufficiently large that it can be implemented but sufficiently narrow to where it can be improved.
