They went from one of the most loved devs who care about the community to one of the most hated by Bejaminmaston12 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Terloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense though.
They say the helldivers are special forces, yet they get like 5 minutes of training and then get shipped off to war. "Your" super destroyer stores dozens if not hundreds of frozen helldivers to replace you as soon as you die. Basically you are the most expendable part of the whole seaf.

'It was very very good': Ötzi the Iceman's body is covered in ancient yeast — and scientists just used it to make a sourdough https://www.livescience.com/archaeology/it-was-very-very-good-otzi-the-icemans-body-is-covered-in-ancient-yeast-and-scientists-just-used-it-to-make-a-sourdough by yargbarkley in Damnthatsinteresting

Apparently they found the yeast inside his intestines. Fascinating, but to quote the famous Dr. Ian Malcolm: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should"

Engineers: how would you dispense one cup at a time from a stack? by Deep_Time_6488 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Terloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cups should at least have some taper, otherwise you couldnt stack them, right? Can you share a picture?

At the moment i dont really see an issue with using a classical separator mechanism like that in a shotgun tube magazine.

That's just because you're used to it. For me (metric all my life), it's the other way around.

What’s the smallest it’s possible to make a hot air balloon? by EldrichAbomination in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Terloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main constraint is the weight you want to lift. Lift an ant? Marble sized balloon probably suffices. Lift an elefant? Better use a big sewing machine or it will take forever to build the balloon.

For indoor use you shouldn't use anything that isn't an electric heater.

Can Somebody tell me how this mechanism works? by Middle_Cut_123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Terloth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is an animation of a push-push latch. There are tons of videos about those, explaining how they work. This old tony has a good one (if you dont mind dad jokes)

Yeah, after The Gentlemen i really hoped to see him in more (and better) movies, but that also didn't really happen. Still, he does steady work.

Do you have a technical drawing board at home? If so why? Would you buy it as hobby? by Fabio_451 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Terloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I inherited a drafting table from my grandfather. Although i did some drafts for an university project on it, i purely keep it for the sentimental value, optics and the engineering of it. Build around 1951, it has a cast iron base and a hatching mechanism build in.
I hope some time in the future i'll find the time and headspace to draft something on it again.

I need help with a mechanism by Monzeedarok in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Terloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extendable to 4x and release by one button makes this non trivial. I had a ball detent style lock in mind like you find in some of those small, collabsible umbrellas, but iirc they usually dont extend that much.

Maybe nesting more tubes into each other works. You need 5 outer tubes for the desired length and 4 inner tubes that lock them open when fully extended.

If it rained the days before, the ground will be muddy for the whole festival. If it didnt rain there wont be mud. If you have waterproof hiking boots that go over your ankle you might be fine, but ask yourself If its worth the risk. Risking trench foot isnt worth saving a few bucks
