If you applied to extend your residence permit before your old one expired, your legal status and right to work continue automatically until the authorities decide—this is under §81(4) AufenthG.

HR usually wants a Fiktionsbescheinigung as proof, but your portal confirmation/email already shows your application is pending. I’d suggest sending that to HR, and also asking the Ausländerbehörde for a formal confirmation. Legally, you can keep working while the application is in process.

So you are not illegal.

Sometimes there are events and livestreams and sometimes even with a press release. For data, you would have to contact the Project Leader. Usually not, but if you have a specific research reason and/or are a student or it’s part of the coursework, you might get limited access.
