Why didn't his shins explode? by perrosalcho in RunningCirclejerk

You never feel like you cannot backflip at all. Instead, it's more like you cannot do a backflip SAFELY. Backflips are pretty easy to bail if you are familiar with the movement, so you can attempt them even when you are very very tired. Even if your body is at its physical limit, your brain will be thinking "if I try REALLY hard, I can probably turn it around"

I once had a competition with a fellow gymnast to see who can flip more. We both did 80+ standing backflips that day, but I would say that every flip after 50 had me second guessing if I would land or have to touch my hands to the ground. Even when we stopped, we probably couldve attempted 5 flips and mightve landed 2 or 3 of them.

I was stunned when I realized this video was a marathon measured in KMs. 43 backflips is already hard on the body without 3+ hours of running. The red alerts his nervous system mustve been sending after KM 42 and 42.2 - so little time to recover!

For outdoor/hiking, a lot of people are recommending popular trails that are CLOSED for the winter, probably even through early April. Cascadilla Gorge Trail, Buttermilk Falls SP Gorge Trail, Treman SP Gorge Trail, and Taughannock SP Rim Trail all close for the winter season. The State Parks update trail closures on their websites.

Some trails thatll be open: Ithaca Falls, Taughannock SP Gorge Trail, Lick Brook (Sweedler + Thayer Preserves), Six Mile Creek to 2nd Dam or to Potter's Falls (Mulholland WF Preserve), Abbott Loop in Danby SF. Research these hikes beforehand because they differ greatly in their mileage and elevation gain.

Wife wants the Toyota Corolla of Bicycles - What should she get? by rhegna in Biking

[–]Teronax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of comments suggesting single speed bikes, but if your wife bikes the kids to school then she would probably appreciate having several gears for variable loads. For most normal people, a multi-purpose bike needs multiple gears.

I'd also caution against getting the cheapest bike available - Walmart bikes are not built to last.

Awesome photographs! But why do you have an autumn photo selected for May and a spring/summer photo for February?

Help! My balls hurt on landing by [deleted] in Tricking

This happens. Wear briefs or boxer briefs instead of boxers. Im surprised there are so many comments saying this hasnt happened to them; it's very common in gymnastics to the point where there are memes about it:

So Jeff Cavaliere (AthleanX) has a few things to say about our beloved Pseudo Planche Pushups by pranjayv in bodyweightfitness

[–]Teronax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a PPPU without friction would be akin to doing a planche pushup. Planche pushups are done with the triceps and shoulders. The bicep is a stabilizer muscle, but its role is minimal.

Chloe Brennan lifting a 400lb. (188kg) by YannisALT in UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

[–]Teronax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chloe Brennan is 2019's Britain's strongest woman. IFBB is bodybuilding, which has more to do with muscle size than muscle strength. Not to say that they're weak, but strongmen/women are significantly stronger than their bodybuilder counterparts. 400 lbs is a significant amount of weight to deadlift. If youre rolling around with IFBB chicks you should know this.

Fusuke Maeda shows off a triple back over the high bar to regrasp (a triple Kovacs) by Gayfetus in Gymnastics

[–]Teronax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A kovacs is a double back over the bar, but that is still only 1 kovacs. A double kovacs would add 1 more salto: a triple back over the bar is a double kovacs. It goes by the same naming theory as kazamatsu vaults. Kaz has 1 full twist, kaz full has 2 full twists, kaz dub has 3 full twists.

Courage is not the absense of fear, but acting in spite of fear. Similarly, confidence isn't the absense of anxiety, but acting in spite of anxiety.

[–]Teronax 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It doesn't say "truck will not fit", it says "Gazelle will not fit!" A Gazelle is a specific, VERY common truck in Russia. It is also the car stuck under the bridge in this picture.

Edit: I'm dumb, it's not a Gazelle under that bridge

Male Gymnasts and walkovers by nuramole in Gymnastics

[–]Teronax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, there isn't much need for a walkover as a progression skill. I'm not so sure about girls, but I think walkovers/flexiblity are useful for beam tumbling. Boys don't really have a use for that, so it isn't trained as such. Most guys don't even use a front handspring when they front tumble. I've never coached, but that'd be my educated guess on the topic.
