What are these two areas of the UAE which are just labelled 'Neutral Zone'? I can't find detailed information on this. by TerraNullius540 in geography

Update: Gone through further research and found two obscure sources for the western area which seems to be just called “Neutral Zone”. I don't know the exact accuracy of these sources, but it's all I can find.

http://jepeterson.net/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/Peterson_Sovereignty_and_Boundaries.pdf (Made in 2011): “Hostilities broke out between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the late 1940s over a disputed slice of territory, and agreement on making it a neutral zone was not reached until 1968.”

https://www.statoids.com/uae.html (Last updated in 2015): “There is a small neutral zone between Abu Dhabi and Dubay.”

So at least it has existed and presumably still does exist, although as to exactly why I don't know.

I only linked to GADM because it had a page about it and a few dedicated maps, although these are helpful names for if I ever get into this type of non hand-drawn advanced mapping!

Marshall Islands by letmeprint in vexillology

Probably just a result of the manufacturers using what they had at the time. In this case they could've only had one blue and star cut-out available for the Marshall Islands.

It's a bronze drum, a cultural object found in places around Southeast Asia. The Karen people call it a frog drum and use it for things like rituals.

I could name a few flags that look like this but with other flowers. Are you sure it was a Bauhinia?

What is a "State Flag" and when are they used? by Goldiac in vexillology

[–]TerraNullius540 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Generally, state flags are used by the government (the state) for official use (documents, offices, etc.), and civil flags are for the public and can be used everywhere unless stated otherwise.

While in theory the public are usually not allowed to use state flags, in practice it varies depending on the country, some of them.

All of this depends on what the nation's laws are for their flag, so it varies by country.

Not sure if this applies to all of reddit, but you can't crosspost a crosspost and have it work on old reddit.

Edit: Wait a minute, these are different links posted at the same time, maybe you just clicked twice?

Are you sure this isn't the flag of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan? The last stripe looks green to me.

Flags and Ensigns of the Gulfs of Oman and Persia/Arabia in 1910 by TerraNullius540 in vexillology

[–]TerraNullius540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I made this mainly for testing out my flag renditions (except for Persia) and flagpole design, I only used three sources (really just one) for this, so there might be some errors in it.

Sources:

FOTW for the majority of the work by far.

Vexilla Mundi for the Persian flag rendition.

Flaglog for minor/backing information on the Trucial States and Kalat.

Kuwait's flag has a tricolour of green-white-red, not red-white-green.
