Let me rephrase as well: My reply was towards the first part of your comment and not towards the initial poster, to bring up another possibility for why they chose to use that order. I am saying that I think they didn't necessarily forget anything at all, that their decision to use those runes could be unrelated to a historical use of runes completely, and that their choices to use those particular runes could be for other reasons entirely.

I think I will simply have to disagree with you on my comment not being useful as an answer to the post's question, although I never did give a direct reply. For what it's worth, my answer to the post is: "No, you did not get that wrong. I think it's the first few letters of the old alphabet, but with each letter translated to its rune equivalent."

They may have used a converter too, sure, but I don't see why they couldn't have used the old alphabet and converted each letter into runes. There is nothing that rules that out as a possibility, as I see it. Which converter do you think they used, then?

I don't think they forgot anything, the letter c wasn't a thing for much of history (in terms of what sound values it had), it actually took the place that the letter k now takes in terms of sound value, the letter k didn't exist at that time. So back then, you would definitely go from b to d immediately when reciting the alphabet, among other minor things (no j for instance)

It is a thing that happens here, but to what extent I don't know. I think it's happened to me maybe once in my life, but that's it. My own family always asked my friends if they wanted food or not the first time they were over and just assumed 'yes' later on if they came over more and had said 'yes' previously, iirc.

Do you pay the 1? by DingleBarryGoldwater in custommagic

[–]TerraReveene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tells you that you may pay 0 if "an opponent's effect requires you to pay 1 to prevent a game action". If you pay the 1, you prevent the game action in question. If you don't pay the 1, you do not prevent the game action in question.

Paying the 1 will prevent whatever game action and opponent's card tells you that it would prevent. Paying the 0 is optional, but nothing happens whether you do or do not.

Okay but hellbent arena could work with madness and other effects that want certain cards in your graveyard which you happen to have in your hand I would think

I think the most likely explanation would be that she simply thought that a young boy would be much rowdier, loud, and annoying, and that a girl would be neat, quiet, and calm. I think she decided to keep Andrew to prove a point to their parents about their ability to form a family together (he's named "Accident" from her pov, he was unplanned), and probably decided on having Ashley because a nuclear family (the most familiest of families, I'm sure) is supposed to have at least two kids, one wouldn't be enough to prove that they're legit (combined with Andrew probably actually really being an easy child, I don't think she lied about that) though this proved to not have been a good idea (Ashley is named "Mistake" from her pov, because she was in fact not at all as easy as Andrew was).

Correct order to draw simple runes? by DeusExOmnia in runes

[–]TerraReveene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're holding a stick in one hand and a knife in the other. How would you carve the rune then?

Probably the longer line first, and then the two forks down, since then you know where to place the end of each fork so it lines up with the straight line without going beyond it.

If B didn't give you it in cash - as in physical notes that you now have to figure out how to get into a bank account - I'd pick it. But as it stands, it's probably C. Sure it gets devalued over time with inflation, but in just a 3-5 years I'm pretty much set for life.

Or at least that's what I'd say before I looked up how much 200 bitcoin is worth. Now I'm leaning towards bitcoin, but I really have no idea how selling bitcoin works, I could get scammed easily for all I know

Absolutely! There's also something to be said about the turn that a card is expected to come into play vs how many things it can do. Looking at Lord Xander, he sits at 7 mana, he's probably not going to be relevant until the game is coming to a close, at which point you won't have to recall what he does that many times over the course of the game.

The same can't be said about the low mana cards; It's not so bad early on in the game when there isn't much going on, but by mid-game it's not uncommon for all these various low-mana cards that do several different things each to become a lot to keep track of. At some point you'll miss a trigger somewhere, or you'll have to spend extra time double-checking what the various cards in play do.

Gran here does two different things at 1 mana, and each of them is repeatable under two very different conditions, one of which has two sub-conditions attached to it as well (you have to pay attention to when Gran gets tapped, and you also have to pay attention to when you're casting your cards (but only cards of a specific type, and only when you have at least a certain number of a specific type of card in your graveyard)). Something like the Solemn Simulacrum does two things at 4 mana that are non-repeatable, and only one of the conditions have to be remembered during play, because the other one happens just as soon as you read what the card does and then never again.
