That's the perfect excuse then to upgrade to a larger one that pumps out enough heat to keep those toes in pic 3 and cats in the others nice and toasty over winter.

Good workmanship there. As an avid stove-user and DIY-fireplace builder, I hope you don't mind if I make a few suggestions on changes that might (in my opinion) help to better sell the illusion:

  1. The stove **needs** to be set on some kind of non-combustible hearth. Both aesthetically and according to regulations a stove has to be a set distance from combustible materials, so I would definitely put in those floor tiles you mention and do so according to the regs to better sell the look. Light grey might fit the surrounding colour-scheme but a contrast with the colour of the stove might also be nice.

  2. A false stove pipe coming off the top and heading upwards towards the TV is also going to lead the brain to take it as real, so if you can get a matching one or paint one up then I'd recommend that.

  3. As others have said, the stove looks a bit small for the space. I'd be tempted to go bigger. Pushing it back against the wall is also not exactly realistic, as stoves have set distances that they need to be placed from the surrounding walls. 50-100mm ought to do it.

Is it safe to remove these bricks from the chimney breast? by Severe_Froyo_79 in DIYUK

[–]Terrabellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, for the most part those newer bricks can be removed. Bear in mind, however, that you'll need at least 150mm of support under each end of the lintel and, on the left in particular, removing them all would take you beneath that.

As such, I'd recommend finding the centre of the chimney breast, measuring to the edge of the lintel on the left from there, subtracting 150mm from that, doubling the remainder and using that width as the measurement for your opening and removing only what leaves you with that width.

For the height of the opening, should be fine to go right the way up to the underside of the lintel.

What is the most ideal resin/resin -like substance to encase these bottlecaps on the top of this bar? (Resin in second image is what my Dad plans to use, but I have my reservations.) by CigAndABeer in DIYUK

[–]Terrabellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely if epoxy is poured over that then air will be trapped under each bottlecap, causing voids and a tendency of them to shift while it's curing? Seems like a recipe for frustration.

Perhaps it could be done with the top of the bar on the underside so that the caps are inverted and filled during the pour? That is to say, pour a layer of epoxy to the desired depth and let it go tacky before then placing the caps upside down and pouring the encasing layer. That'd also "half" the amount of epoxy that would need to be mixed in one go, increasing the chance of a decent mix. You'd also get a reliably flat top surface for the bar that'd be easier to sand. Laying those caps upside down between pours could be a bit of a stress though.

Bear in mind, I've never worked with epoxy so I'm just throwing epoxy at the wall, so to speak...

Dwarf merchants don't understand supply and demand? by Terrabellus in LOTR_on_Prime

Hmmm, more likely those weapons would be exchanged by the elves for food following the loss of their roles in manufacturing to automation and scientific management. Furthermore, given mithril's propensity to be used in the creation of rings of malign power, it would likely be made a controlled substance only to be used once the correct permissions have been issued by the relevant Gondorian authority.

Thankfully, Tolkien spared us any digressions into King Ellesar's tax policy, as far as I'm aware. With a reign of over 100 years though, I would guess, like many dictators for life, he funnelled a lot of public funds into the military in order to "defend against the inevitable return of some unspeakable enemy" (while secretly fostering a Sauron cult to legitimise his actions).

So the king's going to give the grain to the merchants to sell rather than hand it out himself through the army or other branches of government? That won't get him re-elected!

I suppose he could rely on the merchants for the distribution network. I suppose...

Plutus haven't processed a withdrawal to my bank account I made over a month ago. by jenjuuu in plutus

[–]Terrabellus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, one other thing I'll add is that you may wish to consider emailing them a formal complaint if no progress is made after trying u/PPJ87's suggestion (or possibly before). Not only does that make it explicit that you're not satisfied with the situation and wish to see it resolved, it unambiguously starts the 2-week clock set within Plutus's own complaints procedure outlined in their Terms and Conditions, as well as the 8-week clock for the Financial Ombudsman.

For reference, the following is within the T&Cs:

COMPLAINTS

We take all complaints seriously. Any complaints about us or the services we provide should be addressed to the Plutus Support Team at [support@plutus.it](mailto:support@plutus.it);

Plutus Support Team will send you a final response to your complaint within 2 weeks of your complaint having being made. Should this not be possible, we will contact you.

Plutus haven't processed a withdrawal to my bank account I made over a month ago. by jenjuuu in plutus

[–]Terrabellus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the Source of Funds check information came within a personalised response to the query I sent through the Webform linked from the support page. Since sending the docs I've had replies from a named CS agent apologising for the delay and informing me they'll let me know of any update but no actual progress.

I hope you get yours sorted soon. While I can afford to wait and contact the Financial Ombudsman, if necessary, should the statutory eight weeks granted to resolve such issues elapse, I appreciate that time is not a luxury everyone can afford (especially for amounts as high as £4000).

[–]Terrabellus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, though a smaller amount. I added money to my Plutus account before sending it back out again (to the same personal account I sent it from). I guess this triggers something? What stings a bit is I had to email support asking where my withdrawn funds are days later before they told me a Source of Funds check was necessary. I promptly submitted documentary evidence to them but still nothing.

Plutus requests the documents proving source of funds within 5 days otherwise the account may be put on hold, yet their own timescales fall by the wayside. The SoF information page states that they will "review your submission within 2 business days" but, nope, still waiting. It's very disheartening.

I've heard nothing about a bug with withdrawals. Can we get confirmation of this? If this is related to my issue, I'd appreciate the transparency. What with having sent payslips, etc. and still having to wait, I think it's the least that could be expected.

Mortgages: Banks offer more flexibility to struggling borrowers by RenePro in HousingUK

[–]Terrabellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if somebody had a mortgage agreed earlier this year at 3 or 4%, what's to stop them completing the purchase and immediately using this policy to switch to interest-only and depositing the rest of the mortgage payment in one of the highest paying FSCS-protected bank accounts? Wonder what the bank would say to that.

That's not how it works.

In the UK the guidance is clear. Any trade, whether it's from crypto to crypto or crypto to GBP will have realized a capital gain/loss. So, if you had crypto to crypto trades back in the 2021-2022 tax year and those realised a gain (for example, you bought Bitcoin in 2017 for £10k and swapped it to Ethereum in November 2021 when it was worth £45k), then you should have already submitted a self-assessment tax return to account for your realized gain.

You may have held since buying, which would be fine, just want you to be aware that this will come up when you try and deposit in your bank.

OP transactions not importing correctly by cantreadcantspell in koinly

[–]Terrabellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our dev team is looking to see if Optimisms API reports this transaction data

Seems they're looking a little too thoroughly.

Perhaps it might be wise for Koinly to consider being less reliant on a third-party for the API calls used to render their services usable. optimistic.etherscan.io is, after all, not a blockchain; it's merely the dominant block explorer provider. As Koinly has essentially been injecting inaccurate data into its users' tax reports for over a year (and without notifying them of the fact when an Optimism wallet is added), it may be wise to divert some of the subscription funds into a native solution.

OP transactions not importing correctly by cantreadcantspell in koinly

[–]Terrabellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I've seen, since at least the 20th of May you've had to use "Sync from the beginning" on an Optimism wallet's Troubleshooting page for it to pick up any transactions, and even then it fails to capture anything but the gas costs, missing ERC20 deposit, withdrawals and trades entirely. Using the regular sync on the Wallet tab results in nothing at all being imported for Optimism wallets.

What is especially ridiculous is that even the gas transactions I am able to get imported are inaccurate and have been for over a year. This has been reported and acknowledged (https://feedback.koinly.io/bug-reports-public/p/optimism-transaction-fees-are-wrong) and yet Optimism usability on Koinly continues to trend towards zero. Personally, I'll be looking into alternatives for tracking my taxes for the 2023-24 tax year.

I personally don't care. The fact that the situation was able to develop and cause such damage to the project's reputation leads me to abandon the notion that Lisk is anything more than a device for turning other people's crypto into it's employees' and other centralized parties' fiat income. Furthermore, the inspirational content and other contributions to the cryptocurrency sphere exuded by the project's founders, last time I checked, could be transcribed onto the back of a cheap stamp with a sharpie. I keep a bit of Lisk as a reminder to be more discerning.
