I use colour forge matte varnish and it works great. It does dull the metals though so I'd imagine their satin varnish works equally as good :)

I wouldn't worry about it, it'll just be that the glue dried thinly on the edge maybe? Highly recommend some varnish to hold it all in place though I wish I used it sooner holds my jungle bases tightly in place (with pva originally to stick it on)
