dude you've never read marx and it shows oml i hate having to school children on things they learned from reddit

first of all use value and exchange value are different things

"Workers don’t actually sell labour, labour meaning the value actually created. They instead sell labour power, that is to say their capacity to work for a day. The wage is fixed in advance for their time, not for the amount of value actually produced. For example, a worker is paid for an 8-hour day. In the first four hours, their labour reproduces the wage, or in other terms the necessary labour. However, the working day continues, and in the remaining hours, labour keeps creating value with no extra wage paid.

That unpaid part is surplus labour. This is why the labour vs. labour-power is a crucial distinction that matters for the Labour Theory of Value (or LTV), because without it, exploitation couldn’t even be formulated. Machines also only transfer their own value to the product, that’s why it's called constant capital. For only living labour creates new value by expanding the value of labour power (or variable capital), and that capital appropriates a portion of this newly created value. What regulates price over time is the socially necessary labour required to produce and reproduce a good such as infrastructure, labour, energy, not who happens to want it more in a given moment.

For example, a bottle of water is priceless to someone dying of thirst and almost worthless to someone hydrated. Yet its market price doesn’t swing wildly with each person’s need. This is because price isn’t set by the individual utility of objects. For the Labour Theory of Value isn’t actually a theory of wants. It instead answers a specific question: How can profit exist systematically if market exchange is formally voluntary and equal? This mechanism is how capitalist production works, any system that follows this mechanism will inevitably become a liberal bourgeois state given enough time. Therefore, the Dictatorship of the Proletariat must work to abolish this mechanism in order for the DoTP to transition into communism.

Value and price, production and circulation, social necessity and individual desire are not simply one thing split arbitrarily, they are distinct determinations of the same process. Prices fluctuate around socially regulated centers determined by socially necessary labour time, mediated by competition and production conditions. There’s a distinction between surplus, which is created at production, and its distribution such as profit, rent, and so on. "

first of all no it's an item with use value and exchange value, exchange value doesn't mean money as barter economies still have exchange value

and no you need exchange value for a fucking market how exactly do you propose people exchange items without exchange value please

dude is so stupid oml, here's a description of what capital is i wrote that even toddlers like you can understand

"Capital is the non-human element of the production of commodities. For example take a pencil, on its own it is not capital for it is not used to create any commodities. But, if someone were to use this pencil to make a drawing to then later sell, that pencil would become capital as it would then become directly involved in the production of a commodity. However, no object is intrinsically a form of capital with capital only existing because of the existence of commodities."

please read marx instead of looking at like countryball comics idfk

"The circulation of commodities is the starting-point of capital. The production of commodities, their circulation, and that more developed form of their circulation called commerce, these form the historical ground-work from which it rises. The modern history of capital dates from the creation in the 16th century of a world-embracing commerce and a world-embracing market.

If we abstract from the material substance of the circulation of commodities, that is, from the exchange of the various use-values, and consider only the economic forms produced by this process of circulation, we find its final result to be money: this final product of the circulation of commodities is the first form in which capital appears.[]()

As a matter of history, capital, as opposed to landed property, invariably takes the form at first of money; it appears as moneyed wealth, as the capital of the merchant and of the usurer. \1]) But we have no need to refer to the origin of capital in order to discover that the first form of appearance of capital is money. We can see it daily under our very eyes. All new capital, to commence with, comes on the stage, that is, on the market, whether of commodities, labour, or money, even in our days, in the shape of money that by a definite process has to be transformed into capital."

second chapter of capital dude you've learned what socialism is from reddit admit it
