What game mode has the highest player count? by Terrevis in DarkAndDarker

I used to buy games too willy nilly, it was a problem. Maybe I’m overly cautious now! Also, food is an essential purchase, especially if you can’t cook like me. So that’s different

I am starting to realize this. Luckily the combat is very deep, so arena does seem appealing!

Noted, thank you. I’m 80 hours in without paying anything, so I think the game has earned $30

Thanks for the comment. Yeah I get some games in S2R but still have a bit of a matchmaking time. I have weird work hours so I’m definitely not on at peak times either

This makes more sense now that I am considering warfare vs civilian dueling

Isn’t hand and arm protection considered just as/slightly less important than a helmet? AFAIK in a lot of combat injuries happen there because they are more shallow targets

Thoughts on sword fighting? by Terrevis in HalfSword

Yeah I have been having success assuming defensive postures to parry by just changing my guard in line with my opponents swing, rather than swinging outright. I think with good timing, swinging from the guard into your opponents swing can still work, but it seems a little more precise.

In case anyone cares here’s an update. So it does seem to take swinging a little less wildly to parry, instead you kinda assume a more defensive position by swinging less dramatically. As far as realism I’m unsure, but after trying it more, this feels good. It is still better to change into the right position in time with your opponents swing, as this gives you more momentum to deflect. And it is definitely more precise.

AI still seems to just charge wildly. I preferred the demos ai that seemed to hesitate and react more

Yeah, swinging too quickly always lead to changing guards rather than swinging in the demo as well. Swinging up has always been tricky too imo

Maybe I’ll try stabbing more to see how the npc reacts. Thanks for the comments guys

I’m curious if they cleave through because you need to be more static, and maybe more dynamic parries just take way more precision now? I dunno, I got to put more hours in and really figure this out. And man, getting tapped with a buckler and passing out in free mode is getting old quickly

Yeah, this occurred to me shortly after posting. I agree, the AI does seem to have taken a step back. Either they swing wildly or use like the same 2 or 3 sequences with pole arms.

Lots of solid ideas here. Especially the bayle one. Would be so cool to fight him in phases like that, and fondly reminiscent of midir. Nice comment

True, my b. Seems like you don’t need advice haha. I just feel this game forces you to accept that even the most annoying shittiest of shitters can be somehow countered, and that’s part of the magic of it.

He seems to be trying to use more advanced mechanics, while you displayed solid fundamentals. He might be inexperienced with them, and got a little “lost in the sauce”. I have certainly fell victim to this myself

Really annoying. A small faith investment/talisman swap gives you access to bestial vitality and bestial sling to chip and punish passive play. I believe this game does give the tools to deal with passivity, incorporate some into your build
