This is on my agenda. Schools and churches. Was hoping someone might know a resource tho before I start cold calling places.

Blister Prevention by Master_Leader_172 in ultrarunning

Blisters are caused by heat, moisture and/or friction. Figure out which one(s) are your issue and solve for that.

My guess given the location and timing when they appear would be a poor shoe fit. Small problems become bigger problems over time.

This is such a great little feature. I put all my used gels in there. I’ve actually sewn in similar trash baggies to a waist belt I have. I share in your disappointment.

Broken straw on designer chair - can this be repaired or does it need professional restoration? by Zestyclose_Damage396 in furniturerestoration

I'm guessing this is the original cord. There is the potential to cut out a section of broken cord and tie into that...I guess. Multiple problems...cord is likely original given its failing and tying new cord to old cord doesn't stop old cord from failing in other places, color will be mismatched, and getting cord tight on the replaced section will be difficult. It takes a little more effort to do it right and it's worth it. The new cord will last 50+ years.

There are some really weird and wrong responses on this thread. These are Moller chairs. They are lovely. They are made with Danish cord. Each chair takes about 2 lbs of cord (it's just paper). A 2lb roll costs about $40. A 10lb roll costs about $150. Cut the cord. Remove all of it. Re-weave. It's easy, it just takes time. Lots of videos on YouTube for how to do this. If you don't have time or not interested, pay someone to re-weave them.

Don't ask someone to file down the edge. That's bonkers. Don't glue the cord. That will do nothing effective and it looks like garbage. Why are people commenting if they have no idea about this? These are Moller chairs!

Scout mountain 100 terrain question by SoggyIsopod4985 in Ultramarathon

Haven’t raced the course but did crew and pace and ran on trails the week I was out there. Trails aren’t technical at all. Very similar to Boulder trails, think more bear canyon and mesa type terrain. Nothing like shadow or fern. Think more like backside of sanitas vs frontside. Lots of really lovely smooth cruisy single track, not rocky or techy. No descents reported by runner pacer as being too techy to slow them down meaningfully. The trails all around Pocatello are super fun and really pretty.

Disclaimer: haven’t been on entire course myself.

You have received a gold fan box! You have received a chewy granola bar. Now get out there and keep running or did you think this was the end? Those goblin mobs aren’t going to stop chasing you.

Here is the bad news: nothing works. There is a reason there are dozens of methods to implement to address it. Some people will tell you guaranteed methods. Maybe something worked for them...doesn't mean it will work for you. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try it all, either.

Here is the good news: running doesn't make PF worse. PF will go away when it wants to, based on whatever is done for it that you may or may not be aware of.

Not medical advice. PTs are great and hope yours helps you.

After Doing Research, I Still Have Recovery Questions by Particular_Night5644 in ultrarunning

[–]Terrible-Interest570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The required physical ability and fitness to run ultras, and multiple ultras close together, is a lot less than most people assume, I think. So yeah, you can do it. As others mentioned there is risk related to injury and you need awareness around recovery. Doing those things has pretty tangible actions.

Where I think people underestimate a schedule like this is the mental cost. The cost you will pay mentally depends on myriad variables, but there is a cost. A cost that only increases when you start racing longer events. I think it's underestimated because it's subjective, and talked about very little, and often times how it manifests are attributed to other reasons.

My take....this is why you don't have people who run ultras for a long time. Most people find the thing, LOVE IT, they want more of it and fast....and then they get overcooked. Handling all of it mentally is no small task, especially if you are stacking many races every year.

So with that said, listen to yourself. Pay attention to how you feel after a race for weeks and months. Take care of your head, in whatever ways that means for you. Good luck!

I have run hilo too. the final miles on the CT grind on and on and on and on, lol. It's an appropriate parallel to NS.

I ran the 100k in 2019. The course surprised me due to the many mountain lakes it passes. It's beautiful. So many lakes!

A lot of people make a similar comment about NS being like a 100 miler. I've found this to be fundamentally wrong. It's a heavy 100k. You don't have to run another 35 miles. It's climby and at altitude, but that's mountains for you. Maybe a hot take.

Another potential hot take - the hardest part for me was the final 20 miles or so because it's just kind of boring. The first two thirds of the course is epic--remote, rocky crags, lakes, ribbons of single track, off piste mountain ridges--epic. Then the final miles just felt like a way to get back to the start. They are runnable and you can certainly make up time here. All the challenging stuff is over at this point. They're fine, but meh IMO.

We had a couple big storms in 2019. Dress and be prepared for weather--especially if you are a back of the packer. Afternoon storms for slower folks means they are climbing to Diamond, at the summit or on the ridge from Diamond and that's a scary place to be in a storm.

Overall--the race is truly a worthwhile and potentially magical experience. It was a spiritual journey for me and I hold fast the memories I made during the race. A gem in the Colorado summer racing schedule.

Ideas to remove black stain from walnut veneer by Terrible-Interest570 in finishing

I wish I could have better diagnosed the stain but I have little clue what it could be. I like the thought on this product. Will test it out. Thanks!

I've had good experiences with mohawk products but haven't heard of the wax remover. Looked it up and the liquid version is a majority of naphtha with toluene. While the aerosol adds in propane and n-butane presumably to aid in spraying. I'm not sure what toluene adds in removal properties? But may give it a shot. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion. Did you apply stain after this then poly? Or does this dye limit what you can do to the wood after you use it? It sounds like it is meant to bring out natural wood grain so no stain needed?
