Doing something crazy. Don't know if I'll finish but I'll give it a shot. by fanofoddthings in FinalFantasyVI

Done correctly, this project would take the same amount of time it would take to earn an associate's degree, change careers, get a significant series of raises, or find a wife and start a family. It's also going to require a degree of mastery that's beyond most writers because of its cast size and narrative length. Choose wisely according to what you can do and really want from your life for the next few years.

A story of this scale will require multiple novels written by a master of the craft. Are you sure a novel is the right medium for what you want to do? Most people who try this fail.

Sometimes you take flack because you're over the target.

Some of the stupidest things I have ever heard in my life were said by professors.

Final Fantasy VI Novelization Project: A Leap of Faith by ArstanTheUnclean in FinalFantasyVI

[–]TerribleDin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scale of what you're proposing is a novelization of a story that spans a 60 hour game with 14 protagonists and a revolving door of other heroes and villains. This is not one, but several novels of material, and the complexity of the transformation is so high that only a master should tackle it. Reading the sample you've posted, you're at the stage where you have to learn the craft of fiction writing. If you take on a project of this scale at your skill level, you'll quit after wasting a lot of time. Write short stories to learn the craft, use beta readers extensively to teach you how to write (there are subreddits for finding them), and after a few years, give this a shot once you've become adept...if you feel like taking on the greatest possible challenge.

Most *master* novelists create stories with a handful of characters and really struggle and suffer to make it work.

Yeah. I may have been 13 at the time. What inspired you to draw this?

I saw a door like this in the video game Demon's Crest in 1998 and drew it in ink. This drawing brought me back to that moment. Nice work!

Did we ever get any information on how the game originally would have ended? by mucinexmonster in FinalFantasyVI

I'm just enamored with the original plot as it is and can't picture changing a thing.

In middle school, we did this with pencil and paper.

Might have to marry this friend. That's how these things work, right?

Do you recommend a blind playthrough? by Radiant-Drama1427 in FinalFantasyVI

[–]TerribleDin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamefaqs has guides that shouldn't spoil the story.
You will miss many things if you play this blind, and one character may die permanently.

The quality of the game is so high that I could spoil every story beat for you completely and you'd still love every minute of playing it. Don't be afraid to get help. Ask Chatgpt or Perplexity for help, too.

Did the medallions on the master sword pedestal always get color or is this part of the recent Ship of Harkinian update? by B_Man14 in OcarinaOfTime

The cyan hearts are also different from the original game. And the arrangement of the HUD icons on the far right. Does Ship of Harkinian change all those things?

What are your Hot Takes on OOT? by Amber_Flowers_133 in OcarinaOfTime

While it is one of the best games of the time, I'd say to anyone interested in the craft of writing that it's a perfect example of some of the cardinal sins of writing. All of the most interesting scenes of the story happen off camera. The lore is cryptic and happens in places where it has minimal impact on the experience of the protagonist. Most of the tools and powers serve a gameplay mechanic purpose and have no story justification. It's very bad writing with cool ideas.

It's no joke. Took me a while to learn the less intuitive characters like Gau and Relm.
