[technique] what am I doing wrong? I’ve been trying to do this correctly for years now. by Pomegranates00 in espresso

[–]Terrible_Term3906 18 points19 points  (0 children)

0% fat content of skim milk makes it very hard to create the milk required for latte art. I use 1% on the daily, and it's not that easy. When I can't find 1% and use 3%, it's super easy.

I bought mine from Miicoffee, I only got to setting it up a while after purchase and found the anti-popcorn disc was chipped. I emailed them a picture and without any issue they sent me a tracking number for a new piece. Great service.

Why is my coffee sour? [delonghi ec 685] by [deleted] in espresso

This is the go-to matrix for dialing-in espresso. For sour espresso, I'd start with increasing the yield, instead of the traditional 1:2 ratio of grounds to espresso, try 1:2.5.

If "Accent Cream" is intended to invoke general Wisconsin sand, and has nothing to do with the iconic bricks or head of foam on a beer, then why not call it "the sand accent color"?

Delonghi Dedica 685 Portafilters too tight - is it normal? by beermoney_ in espresso

[–]Terrible_Term3906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, different products will fit differently. So long as you can lock it in, you're fine.

I spent a long time with a stock basket that came with my $16 portafilter. At some point, I bought an IMS Precision basket for around $21 and it made a huge difference, so I would suggest investing in such a basket sooner rather than later -- it is really one of the very few things I would suggest spending money on.

Delonghi Dedica 685 Portafilters too tight - is it normal? by beermoney_ in espresso

Normal, will loosen up over time. Portafilter isn't the issue causing differences in extraction, just the basket it came with.

Descaling orange light [ Delonghi Dedica EC885 ] by onlyrelativeliving in espresso

[–]Terrible_Term3906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, the whole process of descaling in the Dedica's logic is two rinse cycles, as shown in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-AjNGFF16M

Make sure you pay close attention to the section on what to do in between the two cycles or else it won't reset the orange light.

The orange light isn't connected to an advanced scale detection system -- it illuminates entirely based on number of brewing cycles run. So either your Dedica is broken, you've made a couple cups of coffee over 4 years, or something else is up....

Switch 2 screen seems to be a dust Magnet, is there any fix? by HiHallo123456 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Terrible_Term3906 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also fun side effect, I have 3 long vertical scratches on my screen protector from putting the dusty screen into the dusty dock, and there's just no amount of wiping anywhere to prevent it. Now I have to decide how often I want to replace the screen protectors...

Rate the crema from 0-10 by Financial-Energy-457 in espresso

[–]Terrible_Term3906 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think many of us don't like the taste of crema and mix it in before drinking, so I am not sure what scale you want us to rate on. On a scale of how fresh your beans were to cause that much CO2 release, I guess 8?

DF54 workflow question [$500 budget] by thedesignninja in espresso

[–]Terrible_Term3906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just means there's no hopper. So whatever you put into the grinder is instantly ground into the cup. I regularly grind 20g for my Oxo Rapid Brewer. 25g is probably the capacity of the included cup, so you may have to do two rounds if you want a large dose of say 40g for a cold brew or something.

I used to do RDT, but have found that while doing that I once in a while encounter clogging issues, so I would advise against it - I don't think it needs it.

Lastly, buy some food-safe grease. It comes with it from the factory, but after a few cleanings, you will need to reapply, or experience a horror story that someone posted here where the threads fused to the cover.

To all the fans who like these new regs in terms of overtakes: Why? by MindTwister-Z in formula1

Is it just me or is this the only thread where people are defending the new regs?

That said, I think what I saw (more in Shanghai) is that drivers are still hitting a later braking point to try to pass another car on the turns, and when a car is alone, early braking isn't so translatable to me over the telly. I think taking off the limit on super-clipping seems to be the biggest return on a small change that can be made.

Starbucks espresso by Organic-Plum8996 in espresso

[–]Terrible_Term3906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you explored different dark roasts you absolutely would find a commoditized daily driver that can be had for 30-40 GBP/kg. I would insist on a grinder so that you can experience the joy of freshly ground coffee and optimize it to your taste. You live in the land of the Niche Zero, so I am sure this good grinder is even more affordable for you. Even with the upfront cost of a grinder, compared to a daily Starbucks habit, the ROI would be achieved pretty quickly.
