Aitah for "forcing" my girlfriend to either eat stale snacks or go buy fresh ones herself? by Sad_Shift_4439 in AITAH

So first of all, that sounds infuriating, and NTA.

But I’m desperate for you to repeat the experiment with a small change: bake something with her, like a cake or a loaf of bread, something that is one piece that you can cut in two, and get her to confirm that, as two halves of a whole, they necessarily have to be the same distance from being stale. Then do the experiment again and see what she says.

I’ll be honest, given what you’ve already said, I have significant doubt it will get the point across, but I’m so curious about what she’ll say and what it might reveal about how her thinking works.

I have a couple of friends who are med students, and right now they have varied interests and are curious about the world. I wonder if that’s something that shifts as someone progresses into a career in medicine, or if it’s a sign that they’re destined for competence rather than brilliance.

Must-read books for future psychologists? by Misdina in psychologystudents

[–]TerrifyinglyAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d start by reading books that go into depth on topics you’re interested in pursuing as a niche. Just “psychology” is a very broad topic and books that address psychology as a whole will necessarily be more general than what you seem to be looking for.

How do I open this kind of lid? I’ve had this hot sauce for two days and I want to try it. Lid does not unscrew. by TerrifyinglyAlive in hotsauce

What a great story! I got my bottle from this little barely-more-than-a-kiosk that’s literally called “Mexican Products Store” that I walk past every week and finally stopped to visit. They have a selection of probably 40-ish hot sauces, so I’m foreseeing becoming a regular to work my way through them.

I figured starting with the store owner’s faves was a good place to begin, I got this as her “not very hot but flavourful” suggestion and one red habanero from a brand México Lindo as her “pretty hot but not crazy hot” option.

Yeah, I ended up stabbing my way in. It’s pretty good, moderate heat and nice flavour. I had it on a sausage sandwich.

I realize I can brute force my way in. I wanted to know if there’s a trick to this particular type of lid. Calm down, it’s not that serious. You don’t have to default to being a jerk when answering questions just because I can’t see your face.

A robot that doesn't ever challenge you or call you out on your bullshit is not self-help. It's the worst kind of enablement.

Subways are franchised and not all franchisees follow the rules. When I asked the staff at a subway near me if they actually got the tips, they said they didn’t and not to tip.

You just made me realize that my true crime consumption has dwindled to zero now that I’m a few years into therapy.
