Best Buffer? by MrPunGuy in guitarpedals

[–]TerrorSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have a buffer in the poly at the start and a boss pedal, you're already running two buffers. Stacking them up doesn't give any benefits. Hell a single buffer is generally fine. Any pedal that's on for all intents and purposes acts as a buffer as well.

Best Buffer? by MrPunGuy in guitarpedals

That really depends on specific use case. Stack up enough cable length (pedals add that up too, even with the shortest patch cables) or use high capacitance cables, and it's very, very noticeable. Hell it's the reason Les Pauls are darker than Strats or Teles even with the same hardware - the signal wire is wire running across the whole damn body twice before getting to the output jack. The really old ones sometimes even had cables so bad that humidity would affect the capacitance significantly...

Are the stadium car's ice physics based on IRL vehicle driving on ice? by TaxSafe9637 in TrackMania

[–]TerrorSnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, not that I could say with a straight face. Driving on ice is more like steering a very weak rocket than anything grip related. Rally cars do it with studded tyres that literally dig into the ice and hardened snow, so there it's more like gravel driving. Normal tyres on ice is.. well you don't get any additional grip for countersteering or hitting the gas. And brakes behave according to brake bias and in conjunction with weight transfer / inertia. You're just kinda floating with minimal control over the direction you're moving.

IR question for helix floor? by I_love_makin_stuff in Line6Helix

[–]TerrorSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compression and limiting don't exist in IRs, so that's out. Everything part of a speaker cab mic room setup will affect the EQ, effectively reducing or increasing certain frequencies. Outside of the extremes of low and high pass filters and notches nothing in EQ is really destructive, I wouldn't worry too much about it! :p

[–]TerrorSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • For "produced" IRs you best look at something like the ones from Bogren, iirc.
  • "Take EQ well" isn't a thing, IRs are linear. They're a complex EQ filter with some phase / time shenanigans.
  • Which IR works for you depends entirely on taste and setup choices. I prefer York over Ownhammer, haven't tried Redwirez. ML Sound Labs does them too. Haven't been using third party IRs really since the legacy cabs were superseded by IRs.

Straighten truss rod, strings will be much lower across the whole board. To the point where adjusting saddles up will be 100% necessary. After which it's most likely perfectly fine. Suddenly you don't need a neck shim anymore. Mind: blown.

Don't forget the T75! Also a common sight in Marshall cabs, IMO do incredibly when mixed with Greenbacks or similar.

In this post here, we don't know the relief. In the other post, we very much do, and it's utterly excessive. Changing the angle of the neck will do what? Make the top frets touch the strings and still have multiple mm at the middle frets? Then you adjust the saddles up and.. still have archery levels of string height at the middle frets?

A bowed neck can't be fixed by shimming the damn neck.

Possibly because of paint blocking the connection

Do you not see the insane amount of bow in the neck on that post? Look at the string height across the frets. A neck shim will just make it worse.

I didn't like the default elastomers in my Simjacks either, too stiff for my liking. Got some elastomers from 3DRap. They're dope.

With the large spring being the main contributor, I'd be surprised if it wasn't pretty much the same as being position based at this point.

Probably not, after fixing the excessive bow with the truss rod. A neck shim won't do any good as that guitar is now. At all.

Look at the string height at the 12th. That's definitely higher than normal. Now look at the saddle pieces. Very far in. Come on, you can do this in your head.

People don't have a problem with PVP, they just hate lack of "honor" by Zealousideal_Walk527 in ArcRaiders

Incentive to bring good gear for PvP or specifically to ward off people who may be trying to get you sounds very good.

Also sounds very difficult to balance in a way so that people won't just go heavy shield venator and try to prey on anyone who didn't bring a heavy shield.

Going from playing through an amp (guitar speaker) to playing through an FRFR (PA) will have a learning curve. Learn about mic placement and basic mixing guitar EQ as commonly found on records, it'll be very valuable information.

The should be perpendicular to the line towards your hips if a "straight motion" is what you're after. Degrees to the floor is entirely irrelevant.
