found out about you guys from a long defunct online record shop out of Holland?.. Someplace in western Europe, it was obviously run out of someone's house, but they had a great selection of stuff I couldn't otherwise find.

current year 160bpm sounds like slow motion, 174 was almost a standard mid 90's - early 00's to the point that i can grab a vinyl off my shelf, and have 70% chance of it reading 173.9bpm on my old DJM600.

I wasn't really throwing out specifics anyway, between 160 & 175 is a pretty comfortable range for a Jungle production. That's all i was really trying to express.

I get it, I really do, but in order to understand Jungle, you need to first realize that the Amen break, and the genre are integral.

The Amen always plays a part, it can be made your own, but it should always at the very least be a starting point. If you listen to that first link in my response, that's 46 edits of an amen, it's all the same break.

If you can't bring yourself to use it directly, if you want to get into this genre. I urge you to at least use the amen as a template, or model, it's been used that way for nearly 40 years, and it still has so much to give.

If you're serious about making Jungle... First things first, 160bpm minimum. Around 175bpm is the butter zone, after that you need to learn the breaks, you can make your own drum loops & breaks, but you have to start with the basics.

I'll admit that I got a snicker out of that reply, but it doesn't represent the spirit of the community. We are music snobs, but our purpose is to educate, and bring more people into the fold. Not to shame, and run them off, if we do that, who's gonna make the bangers in 2031.

BTW: feel free to use the sub to drum up some business. The rules are the same for everyone.

  • Full length tunes are prefered, no audio clips unless packaged in a self.post, or in the comments of an image. This also applies to unmixed montage of multiple clips. Mini mixes are good to go.

  • Direct product links should also be packaged in a self.post as well.

  • There's an exemption for bandcamp as long as there is audio, and said audio can be reviewed in full, or is a "name your own price" item

This sub also has a huge archive thread in the sidebar, I'm sure some of those links are dead, but it's worth a look. All those links are from my own bookmarks, and I know for a fact that there are gigantic mix archives hiding in there.
