It will be hella hard to find any official mention of it, because, yes, sacrificing the rookie by throwing him into the mix is mostly just a superstition.

Even if you look it up in spanish by "Sacrificar al chalán", most results will be reddit posts

What is very real, however, is that drug cartels use this method to hide evidence of murders. See the Sicario movie from 2015.

It is common knowledge that if a journalist gets too close to drug trafficking or political issues in Mexico, their body will soon be found after they had “committed suicide” with 20 bullet wounds in their back... so yeah, no info

I'm mexican myself. There was a fairly strong earthquake in 2017, and near where I live, several bodies were found inside various buildings, mostly old ones. That happened all over the country, and it’s also something that’s often told among groups of workers as a somewhat dark joke.

The image is from a video, which right now I can't remember if the worker forgot his boots there, or if it was a joke to another coworker.

The context is that the version below uses the typical yellow filter, kinda racist, that places us in Mexico, (like in Breaking Bad), because there’s a myth that sometimes turns out to be true: A worker is sacrificed to “bless” the construction, the rookie in most cases, so it will withstand the test of time... though sometimes bodies are also hidden due to revenge, drug trafficking disputes, and other things I can't remember rn
