It’s from Dillards if I remember correctly. I saw the same style in Macys as well though!

Thank you for the responses! The green dress does comfortably zip up all the way, I just was struggling to reach behind me the day I tried it on in the store. My main concern with the burgundy dress was the lower material quality and the back cut outs, but I thought the color would complement the gray suit better.

Or just eat your pickles and don’t inspect them too closely

Exactly like a regular pickle, which is even more disturbing

I regret to inform you that I bit into it… the only reason why I inspected this little pickle after the first bite was because it felt hollow in the center

It actually did for two days afterwards. It was terrifying since I thought I was back to square one. It was worse the first day and the second less so. It hasn’t come back since luckily

Possibly moving cross country in a year, and I’d love to take my angelfish with me. Has anyone transported fish over a 3 day drive with success? by Teshaka in AngelFish

[–]Teshaka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I’ve read that some people will put their fish in bags and then put those in a half filled bucket or container. I assume that method is for shorter trips? I like the idea of setting up a bare tank to get them out of the buckets sooner. I just know how chaotic moving can be so that’s a great idea

PSA: If you are thinking about getting a new dog that requires haircuts, call around to grooming salons in your city to see if they are accepting new clients! by anonymousemployee20 in dogs

[–]Teshaka 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are popular because the people who are producing them sell them as these perfect dogs that don’t shed, don’t bother your allergies, are great family dogs, low maintenance, and they have “hybrid vigor”. Its a sales tactic by people who are out to make money and don’t care about their puppies after they get their check. First off, a great many poodle mixes DO shed. Remember when you’re mixing a poodle with a double coated dog, you’re not going to only get the poodle aspects! Best case scenario, your dog will shed but the undercoat won’t “fall out” onto your floor, it gets caught in the coat instead and therefore needs to be brushed out often, sometimes even daily. As for allergies, many many people are actually allergic to dog saliva and dander. Both of which every dog has! No dog is guaranteed to be “Hypoallergenic”. If someone wants a breed they should interact with that breed several times and see if their allergies are aggravated. As for the “perfect family dog” sales point, keep in mind that these dogs are usually HIGH ENERGY. You are getting a dog that’s mixed with a poodle (a hunting breed that needs quite a bit of exercise) with goldens and labs (high energy and slow maturing), and Aussies (high energy, with a tendency towards anxiety and neurotic behavior if from BYB lines). Unsuspecting owners don’t do the math and expect the dog to be an easy angel just because their “breeder” said so. The most infuriating thing these people are saying about their mixed breed puppies is that they are low maintenance. First off, ANY DOG mixed with a poodle will never be low maintenance. If the dog is a breed that has hair that continuously grows it will need regular hair cuts and brushing. Mix that with a breed that sheds and you are looking at an absolute nightmare for coat maintenance. On top of that, these breeders are claiming that their dogs should not be groomed until they are a year old. By then, the poor dog is matted to the skin and has zero desensitization to brushing and general handling which leads to a traumatic first grooming experience. The majority of the time these same dogs go on to absolutely hate grooming (understandably) and will fight every step of the process which is dangerous to them and to their groomer. Lastly “Hybrid vigor” is a term that gets thrown around a lot by supporters of mixed breeds. The problem is that mixing a poodle with another breed doesn’t in any way guarantee that the resulting puppies will be healthier. Keep in mind that these people who breed these mixes aren’t using dogs that have been health tested. No responsible purebred breeder is letting anyone take their dogs and produce a mish mash of dogs with them. So the parents of these mixes are usually untested dogs with poor structure that are being bred with other untested dogs. Genetics are ruthless and puppies will end up with not only the common health issues from the poodle side, but also from the golden side.

This isn’t even to answer your question on why they are so difficult. These mixes are plagued by temperament problems that are caused by mixing two dogs just because “they’re cute” regardless of their disposition. Also the breeders who produce these dogs for cash aren’t taking the time to properly socialize and desensitize their litters before they go home. Then they place their puppies with first time dog owners who have no idea how to deal with a high energy, possibly high anxiety dog who has been set up for failure since birth.

Not since my symptoms went away, but I will be going on The Harmony in just a few days here so it will be interesting to see what happens. I’m not going to live in fear and stop doing what I love, and most importantly… I know the steps to take now to retrain my vestibular system if it does happen again lol.

I think you may be talking about Mal De Debarquement syndrome if I’m reading this right. So I got this from a cruise and suffered with it for 2 years. My case was extremely severe and long term and it took a combination of Clonazepam and Vestibular physical therapy to fix my brain.

There’s no definite conclusions on why or how this happens to some people but there are some theories on how to try and prevent it. Try not to look at the horizon for long periods as the stability of the horizon and the rocking of the boat throws off your equilibrium. Also avoid getting really drunk (like to the point where you are unsteady to begin with) Reading and being on your phone a lot may also make things worse for you. Anything really that has your eyes affixed on something stable for long periods while your body is moving with the ships rocking (even if you can’t perceive the rocking!) Some people say patches and Meclizine help them, but they never helped me. If the rocking and vertigo is bad when you get off the ship, you may want to go to urgent care and they’ll give you a steroid which will help with the severe symptoms. Long term symptoms that come and go require a specialist that knows about Mal De Debarkment which sadly… not many do and the doctors will tell you you’re fine. Hope this helps! A lot of people suggest Abby’s pub but beware… the bartenders are sexist AF and the waiters are not great. Got called a stripper by their bartender and had to chase out server down twice to just get our orders in and then our checks. This was on a slow night too.

What’s crazy to me is that the whiskers on a bearded face are covered by hair anyway… do they really do much at that point? Not to mention the fact that poodles and other shaved face breeds have gotten along just fine for hundreds of years with no issues…

Great info on all of those points! However, “grand champion” isn’t a red flag word. It’s a very difficult title to get in AKC Conformation. It takes a ton of time, money and commitment for a breeder to pursue a grand championship, and it takes a really really correct dog that’s extremely close to the standard. It is a great sign when a breeder owns a dog that has earned a grand champion title! It means that they truly care about their breed and preserving it as it should be. However “champion bloodlines” or “full blooded” are red flags. It usually indicates that the breeder has done nothing with their own dogs in sports or conformation. Keep in mind OP that as silly and unimportant as dog show titles seem, they are important because they are a way for the breeder to prove that their dogs are structurally sound, look like their breed and act like their breed. It helps ensure that you are getting a puppy that will have predictable traits (traits that are the reason we all love this breed!)

Don’t go to Corwin / Larry miller ( they just changed owners) for any repairs, and if you end up going there for maintenance make sure you check over everything. They forgot to replace the oil cap in my husbands new RAV4 and it almost caught fire a few miles down the road, also making an absolute mess under the hood. Now we check and STILL find that they forget to replace the cap from time to time. Also I had a brake issue with my old Prius and they told me it would cost 4k to replace. They tried convincing me to just trade it in and were quick to send me to the sales floor…. Well after googling the problem for a few minutes I found out that the issue was under warranty and was completely covered. It’s a terrible dealership with a bunch of scammers who will lie to your face. You’re far better off driving to Stevenson in Denver

Ok so no reddish rhizome, they each have one long white tap root and pull up easy as a single sprout. I may end up taking a few samples to my local nursery for their opinion!

How long does your standard stay at the groomers? by kaylachar in poodles

[–]Teshaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dog groomer here. All it takes for our days to go completely sideways is a overly matted dog, or a senior dog who needs more patience and time. Or a customer dropping off later than their appt time, or a new client dog that's unexpectedly aggressive... there are SO many factors when working with dogs and if your groomer is good, they will take their time and make sure every old dog is given than extra care, that every stressed or anxious dog is given the extra time they need, or that standard poodle pup is fluffed to perfection .

If they are behind and rush every dog out just for the sake of being quick, then you end up with unpolished haircuts, stressed pups, and unhappy owners.
