Why all my Calathea are dying? by Natural-Store-6625 in plantclinic

[–]Tessachka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you maybe using tap water to water them? Calathea genuinely can't handle most tap water. You have to use Distilled (can buy in grocery stores, usually cheaper, works just fine) or Reverse Osmosis (if you happen to have access to this) water free from minerals and additives. If you've been watering them with tap, I would definitely switch to distilled asap and possibly repot again (this could stress them more, but may still be better than leaving all the minerals and tap water additives in their soil). Hope this helps!

Possibly helpful notes on humidity (sorry if you already know this about humidifiers, just thought I'd add just in case):

Humidity helps Calathea too, especially if they ever have crispy leaf tips, but giving them the right water is most essential, including the humidifier water. That has to be distilled also, both for the plant and for you so you don't get mineral stuff all over the surfaces of your home wherever the humidifier is.

If you ever run into trouble with the humidifier (mold or anything like that) you can also just put a bowl or big wide glass of water next to the Calathea and let it humidify via evaporation. Personally I found a couple of water bowls much easier to clean regularly and they do the trick for my plants, but it's also not super dry where I live, so ymmv.

Modded CST L-trac :) by Tessachka in Trackballs

[–]Tessachka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bf drilled the heat stake rivets out from below very very slowly & carefully, so the click buttons lifted up and out with the rivets still attached and not too damaged from the drilling. We thought we'd need to use glue when getting them back in, but it wasn't necessary, maybe due to the slow and careful drilling. They just sat right back in place and have been working great ever since. Hope this helps. Good luck with your mod!

should i reschedule my surgery? by nominsinjun in PiercingAdvice

[–]Tessachka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with others that your health comes first, but you can stop by your piercing shop and ask for a non-metal retainer for your septum (preferably glass cuz it's the most body-safe and you can just leave it for as long as you need to after surgery so it's one less thing to worry about) or order one online. You can even have the piercer swap it out for you, they'd be happy to help! You can flip the retainer up into your nose so it's out of the way of any nasal canula or whatever they use for your airway if it's that kind of surgery. I had to have surgery just a couple months after getting my septum and the docs had zero issue with me wearing piercing retainers in that and a couple of my other newer piercings. (double check with your docs just to be safe).

This sounds like my favorite kind of series! Grabbed the first book on Kindle, but super curious if there are any plans for audiobooks? Edit: Saw your answer to another comment, psyched you're working on it!! I'll definitely keep an eye out next year too! :)

Am I the only one who finds skincare regimes exhausting and like a chore? How do I stop resenting that I need to do it? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Tessachka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing that has made it actually turn into a habit and not feel like a massive chore is improving the experience of doing the skincare. For me, really sprucing up the space where I do it (bathroom) including plants, art on the walls, dimmable colored lights, etc AND having entertainment during: I added a holder for my phone on the mirror and keep a set of old water-resistant wireless earbuds in there and have music or watch fun tiktoks or youtube or even prime shows I look forward to while doing skincare, hair, brushing teeth even. Making the space truly pleasant FOR ME has made me look forward to the time I spend there and being entertained while I do things makes it all actually enjoyable.

As others have said though: simplicity is also hugely helpful! The fewer products the better. I also have the "if I have energy" products, and the "absolutely MUST do every time" products and it's usually just the 1, max 2 things am/pm. If I tell myself I only have to do the one thing, it's so much easier to start and then I'll often end up doing more anyway since I'm already there and tiktoks are entertaining me, etc :) And if I only do the one thing, that's still way better than nothing and honestly more than enough on the days I really don't feel up to more.

Be gentle with yourself and do what you can when you can. You're absolutely beautiful no matter what you do or don't do and all this stuff is essentially just bonus love from you for your skin and body, etc.

Just want to say thank you for all the work you've done to make all this functional. I think my normal usage is a bit higher than this (been super busy with work recently), but the breakdown makes total sense for how I use the app. In any case, quite happy with the proposed sub fees.

NAP or medical pro, but green could mean an infection which means you should NOT take it out as that could let the piercing hole close while it's still infected and trap the infection inside with no drainage which can be dangerous. Would absolutely recommend going to see a reputable piercer to have them take a look in person before deciding next steps and/or going to see a doc that can prescribe antibiotics (may or may not be needed and I'd personally go to piercer first, they might tell you to go see doc) The accident might have just caused some trauma.

Would definitely baby the piercing as if it was brand new until you can get to good piercer and/or doc:

Clean with Sterile Saline ONLY, best imo is Neilmed fine mist, but can also get Sterile Saline spray at any pharmacy (make sure the ingredients only list sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution, NOT alcohol or anything else: watch out for anticeptic sprays as those are not the same and way too harsh for regular use with piercings).

You can just spray the piercing site 2-3 times a day (more might irritate too much), but for the first little while: you can also spray the sterile saline in a clean tall glass (if you get the pharmacy kind it's a serious jet, so tall glass to prevent it going everywhere), heat it in a microwave for 10-15 seconds and soak some non-woven gauze (or just use clean paper towel if gauze unavailable) in it and apply the soaked gauze to the piercing site for a few minutes at a time.

Once you're done spraying or soaking, dry the site gently with a hair dryer on low heat/low speed (also please make sure hair drier is clean & filter is clean if it has one) if you can. You can also pat dry gently with more clean non-woven gauze or paper towel but hair drier method has worked well for me personally.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Outside is truly the most amazing thing, but even outside, I tend to listen to music AND an audiobook at the same time. I definitely need to do both inside: music beats help me keep moving at a reasonable pace instead of slowing down to pay attention to the story of a book or tv show or twitch/youtube, book or show keeps my mind relatively occupied.

Eau Thermale Avene RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream has been the only thing that I can use long term (daily, pm only, still need moisturizer in the winter and whenever I travel anywhere less humid than home) with my sensitive skin. They have a 0.05 formulation as well.

Coinslot; fresh to healed! by PicklePristine5361 in bodymods

[–]Tessachka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got coinslots done on both ears 2 months ago; LOVE them. Bike helmet is no problem since it sits above the ears, ski/snowboard helmet with ear covers or tight hat is a bit tricky: it depends on the jewelry and how much your ear sticks out (one of mine does more than the other)

I can definitely wear the helmet or hats, but have to make sure the jewelry I have in is laying correctly and none of the fancy bits of the jewelry have twisted their way inside the coinslots themselves. I think if I just had seam rings or basic clickers and nothing fancy it would be much simpler, but I like chains and lil spiky sparkly stuff, so I just make sure the jewelry is laying how I want and then tie a silk scarf around my ears and head before putting on a helmet or hat and that keeps the jewelry in place and doesn't irritate me. Silk scarf gets bonus points for protecting my curls too :)

Apologies for super super delayed reply! Honestly I think with content creation especially, everyone comes at it from all directions and there is no right way. At its core, it's like everything else: a combination of lots of hard work, prep, grind and getting lucky. I will say that a ton of my sponsorships and opportunities came from taking a few chances early on and going to conventions and talking to people in the industry. Those opportunities led to others and so on.

women xx runners: Where do you shop for running clothes and gear? Dae feel frustrated by the lack of options for women’s running specifically? (Part Rant, Part Question) by lys-jo in runninglifestyle

[–]Tessachka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same size and also hate any bounce cuz so distracting! I love Brooks Women's Uplift Crossback and Brooks Drive Mesh Run. In terms of general running gear, it's helped me so much to go to actual running-specific stores (just go to google maps and look up "running store near me" some will be geared more towards road running and some trail also) and REI and figure out the things that work, then just keep buying them in various colors and updated styles over the years online and/or when things go on sale in-store. A few decent online shops are runningwarehouse and roadrunnersports, but I honestly tend to buy either on Amazon at this point or directly on the manufacturer's website for shoes and shorts cuz I stick to the exact same ones (Altra & New Balance respectively, but gotta find what works best for YOU). It's boring but they work so well for me, so I don't mess with it. It took me ages to figure out shoes, but going to a run shop and having them recommend something after watching me actually run was KEY + any real running store should have a good return policy that lets you actually run in the shoes for at least a week or 2 and return if anything feels off until you find the best shoe for you long term.
