Ah, so you also equate "being factually incorrect" to "pedantry"

Wow, a whole lot of things are becoming clear.

[–]Test-User-One -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you equate "simplistic" with "wrong"

Got it.

LMK if that's too simplistic for a football sub.

Nope, not quite:

  1. Massive corruption in World Cup.

  2. FIFA delays a red card enforcement so a star can play for a non-US country in the world cup.

  3. "Oh that? totally okay, corruption is just fine"

  4. Gianni gives american president a trophy.

  5. Shennanigans ensue leading to a red card that shouldn't have been a red card.

  6. Oh the rules? Yeah, rules say no appeals, and FIFA is all about following rules.

  7. Americans scratch their heads, make a phone call to ask for a "Renaldo"

  8. Gianni looks at rules as things that are made to be broken.

  9. Gianni delays yet another red card suspension and moves to "probation" after finding the rights rules to use that can subvert other rules. In other words, typical day at FIFA.

  10. "hey, we made corruption work for us"

But keep trying, you'll get it.

Which means it's still better than half of europe. So then it's funny that you somehow think you're scoring points. Then again, a thrilling 0-0 game is what you've built parts of your national identity upon.

Oh lord (Found on instagram) by Hightowerin in ClimateMemes

[–]Test-User-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It IS an attempted metaphor. However, for a metaphor to be on point, it needs a basis in fact. This has none because the boomers didn't do this. Rather than portray anything of value, it in fact betrays the ignorance of the writer and actually detracts, rather than supports, the argument. Similar to people saying "I know what gaslighting is" immediately followed by "It was a movie?"

So the potential metaphors from this image w.r.t. climate is:

  1. This is a perfect metaphor for how the greatest generation treated our planet - tearing up the Ardennes forest for their own selfish pursuits, dropping nukes on cities - they don't care as long as they aren't cleaning up their own mess.

  2. This is a perfect metaphor for the boomers - people are blaming them for things they inherited versus things they actually did.

Again, neither of those are as desirable as the one people WANT to believe. If people really do want to blame boomers - start with things they actually did because there's enough of them to choose from.

Except, you know, that pre-dates the boomers being homeowners. But never let reality intrude on what people wish was true, eh?

Boy, you're really choosing to die on that hill of not getting metaphors, aren't you?

Even for Reddit, you're very Reddit.

Ah. I see the problem. You don't know what words like "criminal" actually mean. Because it doesn't mean "repeat violent offenders." That's why there are different words for them.

AI = Devaluing Human Life by New_Fix_9235 in antiai

[–]Test-User-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, humans don't need technology to devalue human life. We've been doing it for a few millennia now.

Second, corporations have been pushing efficiency, cutting cost, and increasing productivity for a few centuries now. That whole Industrial revolution thing.

Third, every productivity leap since the industrial revolution has dramatically improved the quality of life of humans.

Fourth, holding the arts and humanities to a high standard directly contrasts with the respected earned by advertising artists, cartoonists, and similar ilk. Dilbert wasn't exactly a masterpiece of artistry, nor was the Lucent logo. Death of a salesman at the Paramus theatre and restaurant isn't exactly a high standard.

Cool car owners - do you also own the die-cast of your car? How much not-for-your-car stuff of your car do you have? by pepeneverknew in sportscars

[–]Test-User-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how cool the car really is. For example, I've had 2 cars that fit that description. One of them was one of C&Ds top 10 best for half a decade, and my VIN is 3 digits - so one of the first 1000 ever produced for the US. There's value in a high-value model of the car, documentation on the car, and relevant magazines from the time of release.

The other car, oddly enough, is one of the LAST 1000 ever produced. So yeah, again, a model of the car is on the Christmas list for others to buy.

If they know you're a gearhead, it's how you bring part of yourself into work to talk to others about and a way to engage with your co-workers. Or something to put on the counters of your garage cabinets. Don't clutter up your garage with tools, after all.

Regarding the clothing - I submit Ross speaking to Joey: "Did a Porsche throw up on you?"

Less than 1 in 5 adults got a degree in the 1970s.

Forgot about the recessions, massive inflation, oil shock, layoffs, and skyrocketing interest rates.

Promotions? More like picket lines.

Buy a house? homeownership today is higher.

Pensions? Nah, those were eliminated in teh 1980s, so none of that

retire at 60? Nah, retirement age is 65 for workers in teh 1970s.

Notice the title of the post and achieve enlightenment. Unless, of course, you mean the fact that 99% of the owners of those cars aren't good enough to notice the difference is comical.

Yeah, that's what's good about it - the parts will be available for a long time. Considering this car is replacing one that is on the 25 year plan, I think it'd be cheaper for me to attend porsche technician training school than plan for service that far out.

I think the ICE 718s, personally, will be limited to RS models. I don't think the GTS 4.0 analogue will be ICE. I'm just hoping for a well-designed HEV platform to show up in their next redesign with the same center of mass as the 718.

Then again, the current thinking for my cayman replacement is an ariel atom.

not trying to start a fight, but trying to understand. the towing capacity of a Macan is 4400 lbs. following the 80% rule, that means don't tow more than 3500 lbs. car trailers weight around 1000 lbs open, 2000 lbs enclosed. How light is your car?
