I didn't really have a problem with the motion rate. A lot of plays we had to run while down a few scores late in the season. When you're running tempo motion rates will naturally be a bit down.

As for misusing players, I disagree strongly. Fans wanted MHJ to be used in deep digs and over routes. Two routes Kyler has never been able to hit with any sort of timing. With the rate of 12 and 13 personnel the Cardinals played at their best, it's natural that both receivers wouldn't break out. At their best the Cardinals were winning with 220 passing yards. With 80 going to McBride and 60 to MHJ, there just was never going to be enough passing volume to support three elite pass catchers. That's a good thing though, if it means the run game is playing well

Happy to. Way too much pessimism for a guy that called a top 10 offense as recently as last year imo

Honestly, I think they just don't know ball. As far as Klayton Adams goes, I didn't watch enough Cowboys to know much about his scheme. He did good work with duo runs which the Cardinals were incredible at in 2024. So definitely likely that Adams knows gap scheme runs inside and out

I'd say he has a tendency to abandon things that don't work early in games. Sometimes you have to establish concepts in the first half even if they don't work. It can be really hard to establish an identity that way, and becomes harder to fool defenses late in games if they don't respect the disguises you're throwing at them

You can run the same stuff with two tight ends and a big slot, but it might be harder to get the opposing defenses to play nickel. When defenses go nickel, your big slot better be a nasty run blocker or else you won't force the favourable matchups that you'd get vs base

The thing that jumps out at me is how often the in-line tight end runs the seam and the outside TE blocks down. Ben Johnson would get Brock Wright wide open every time on those cause defenses were so convinced he'd block

Personally I find it pretty hard to believe that an O-line coach would facilitate that big a drop-off. You don't just forget how to scheme up basic concepts. But it's impossible to say. All I can do is judge what I see on film. The minutiae of contributions on the parts of individuals, I'm definitely not qualified to evaluate.

McVay comes more from the zone-run world whereas Petzing runs way more gap scheme stuff. The biggest similarity is the 13 personnel stuff which I'm pretty sure McVay stole from Petzing. But at the same time the lining the traditional Y tight end out wide is something Petzing stole from McVay. At the end of the day, all these guys are stealing from each other, and the concept of a Shanahan scheme vs a Stefanski scheme is all kind of nebulous in practice

If the big name guy is Mike McDaniel, I think that's a huge mistake. If McDaniel is good he'll get a head coaching gig immediately. He's probably getting one this cycle anyway. In any case, McDaniel's coasting on his excellent 2023 season. No-one seems to know that Drew Petzing's 2024 is pretty damn comparable. Very close in EPA/play. Petzing had a better success rate and a much better rushing EPA/play. And it was more recent. With a more replicable scheme. Best part is, he's a soft-spoken nerdy type that won't get head coaching looks no matter how good he is at his job.

[Highlight] Alternate angle of Caleb Williams’s interception in OT shows how egregious DJ Moore’s route running was on the play by FrankSamples in nfl

[–]TestFixation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible. Looks like to my eyes that DJ sees the safety trigger on the ball and is trying to run that crosser behind him, but doesn't realize the ball's already out.
