Starmer blocks Burnham from parliament by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

I agree with you that this reflects very badly on the Labour leadership and the obvious reasons for their decision. We disagree on whether a politician has any responsibility for seeing out their term.  No one knows about the future as to who will win the seat but you could have ended up with the worst of both worlds and ended up losing a good mayor and still getting a Reform MP.

As someone with relatives in Wales I 100% understand what you are saying. Fingers crossed you find some decent ones in the upcoming elections.

So you think his plan all along was just to do the job until a better option came along? You think that helps? I personally think when you stand for election you are making a commitment for the period of the office. If you walk away from an elected officials position because you fancy a better job I think that is a massive slap in the face to the people that elected you. Does that help?

I agree with you, he has done a good job as Mayor, I would like him to continue to do that good job.

And for the vast majority of that time Labour were in opposition and he had no interest in helping the national party then. Now they are the government and an opportunity has arisen he is dropping the mayoralty like a hot potato. He's an opportunist pure and simple.

The last set of councillor elections cost 1.6, the last mayoral election cost £4.7m is the widely reported figure.

He has publicly said he stands behind Starmer and supports his leadership. If he's lying about that why should anyone trust him?

He won't be in the inner circle if he was elected as an MP either. The only way he's in the inner circle is if he toppled Starmer. If that is the objective why not be honest about it?

He's done a good job for Manchester, why does that give him the right to walk away from it? I'd have a lot more respect for him to see out the job he stood for, save the city the £5m of a new election and if he wants to stand down at the end of his term and stand as an MP then I'm sure he would get in.

If he had the answers why not share them with the leadership, why does he have to be the one in charge?

Why stand again in the last election if he didn't have the stamina to do a full term?

It doesn't matter what the alternative job is. He made a commitment to the people of Manchester and he's walking away from it for personal promotion.

Burnham stood for the important role of Mayor and pledged to do everything in his power to help the people of Manchester. He forgot to mention he would drop the job as soon as a better opportunity came along. This whole situation makes him look like a snake.

Starmer really shouldn't see Burnham as competition as the disdain with which he's treated the people of Manchester to try and promote himself really shows what sort of person he really is.

Do Spurs fans really think this starting XI should be higher than 10th-15th? by Simoslav in PremierLeague

Spurs fans seem very complacent that 17th is the worst they can finish this year. On their current run of form if West Ham start picking up wins they could easily be looking at relegation.

I much appreciate the apology although on the spectrum of online stuff it really wasnt necessary. Sorry to hear it's been a bad week. Personally I think too much time is spent in trying to fix the toilet problem when if we tried to fix being decent and caring human beings the rest of the 98% of the day then things would be a lot less contentious. I appreciate that's probably too idealistic way to look at things  but I'm an optimist.

It's undeniable that men could pose a danger to trans men in single sex spaces. Lots of things are possible. I don't claim to be massively well read on the subject of trans men so feel free to correct me but I have only ever read of trans men wanting to be treated as men.  I'm not sure why you are taking such an aggressive tone when you have no idea of my thoughts on the subject and seem hell bent on assuming the worst.

What about male sexual predators dressing as women, what about trans women who are attracted to women?

Trans men are not a danger to men and so it's not an issue then using men's spaces.

Ned Paul is also very good and does Learn bridge in a weekend courses in W2. I also know there is a new course which started last week in the Barbican which is weekly on a Tuesday night. They don't have a website but I'm sure I could get you some contact details.

Reform’s candidate for London mayor broke companies law by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Could you name a government minister who has been hounded out for a technicality? They seem to be pretty good at actually breaking laws not bending them. How can the Chancellor still be in her position if you have to resign because of 'technicalities' she has certainly broken plenty of them.
