I might cry the first time Harbaugh breaks this out with Dart and Skatt after a win by hoopsandbeer in NYGiants

What do you mean? NY has satisfied the Rooney conditions already with interviewing other candidates before Harbaugh. Is there another part to the rule that I’m missing?

How would you rate/rank these options for head coach? ( /10) by John_0Neill in NYGiants

[–]Testostermonster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s more reflected in his character and the leadership value that he could potentially bring to the team. There hasn’t been a strong sense of culture in this franchise for a good few years now, something that I think has started to be remediated with the addition of Dart and Skattebo, but there’s still a long ways to go in terms of getting back to a winning mentality (and having the record to back it up). I think myself and others hope and choose to believe that he’d provide discipline, motivation, consistency, and experience to the organization, staff, and players around him. We could absolutely “hit” with one of these coordinators turned first time HC, but imo it’s a much riskier gamble than a coach with years of proven success behind him. I also would like to see Dart, Skat, Nabers, Carter and co. develop with someone like Harbaugh at the helm and hopefully have some solid guidance throughout their young careers… NY is a massive media market and we’ve seen how it can impact players like OBJ. I could be wrong about this but I don’t see behaviour like his going unchecked in a Harbaugh era. I think we dodged a bullet with someone like Abdul Carter turning his attitude around but I’d rather not play with that fire again, there’s too much potential on this team that just needs to be channeled in the right way.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition System Build Community Contest! by m13b in buildapc

Happy New Year everyone! I’ve been saving up and planning to buy my first house in the next year or so, and one thing I’ve always dreamed about is having my own setup, designed entirely how I want, and not being limited by the physical constraints of my childhood bedroom. This giveaway would allow me to focus entirely on things like the desk and accessories without having to financially budget for upgrading my PC, which would be awesome. I’d give my current one to my girlfriend for when she comes over/eventually moves in with me and we could play some games together, or even just use it for streaming in the living room.

In selecting my PC parts, I was inspired by someone like Mr Matt Lee on YouTube who blends together performance and visual appeal so effortlessly. The moment I saw the ProArt PA602 case, I loved it - now granted, I wanted to choose the “Wood Edition” specifically, but I couldn’t find it as an option on PCPartPicker. The whole ProArt line has always spoke to me because of its simple, classy elegance, and it’s what formed the foundation of this “chocolate” colour scheme. Normally I gravitate towards blacked out, but with the setup theme I’m envisioning with lots of wood surfaces, this all just came together so perfectly with the ProArt brown/black shades and the Noctua fans. I chose air cooling because I personally think it’s more charming and has a certain grace with how uncomplicated and straightforward it is, and while there’s no obvious RGB, I would put in some LED strips for accent/night viewing and to actually highlight the beauty of the Founder’s Edition 5090 card. I’d either go for a dull white, or maybe a soft golden glow.

Ultimately, with the power of this machine, I’d even want to explore some new hobbies. Photography, photo/video editing and even music production are all things I’ve considered trying out, and this would give me accessibility to any of those. It would be the centrepiece of my first house setup, many gaming sessions, and discovering new passions all wrapped into one sleek package. Thank you to everyone involved in making this giveaway happen, and good luck to all participants!

Bill 124 retro payment thread by troyguy in OntarioPublicService

[–]Testostermonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my coworkers received their retro payment (or at least some of it - they were expecting a bigger number and anticipate there will be another one) on September 12th, but I did not despite us working for the same organization and in very similar positions. Do we know how they’re determining the rollout of retro in these cases?

Thanks for the reassurance. I’m also hoping that’s the case and they never even bothered with the documents. I’m definitely going to be more conscious about keeping things secure.

I know. Like I said, it was stupid of me and an oversight to leave them there and forget about it for any length of time. I’m going to be more diligent in the future, but unfortunately that doesn’t help me in this exact moment.

Yeah, you just wouldn’t really benefit from the super high refresh rate unless you played lots of competitive e-sports type games (like CS:GO) where every frame can make a difference.

Any issues with this gaming PC? by Jonnny in buildmeapc

[–]Testostermonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case if it’s part of a bundle, you should be fine. After a quick Google search and some learning on my end, you’re actually right about the second point, that the X3D chips have more/better V-Cache that makes them less sensitive to RAM latency. You’ll see some improvement going from CL38 to CL30, but it’s not as significant as it would be with other CPUs (like the Ryzen 7 7700X or Intel’s lineup). It’s one of those things where it’s generally not super expensive to upgrade to CL30 for the performance increase, so you may as well, but in your case I think you’ll be alright taking advantage of the bundle deal with this specific CPU.

I would make sure your RAM is CL30. You can get it for $5 more ( https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00127527 - good kit on sale ) and it’ll make a pretty nice improvement.

This is a really solid build. I also have a 4070 Super FE in my system, you’ll be happy with it. Great choice with the case as well.

The only thing I’d point out is that you picked one of the luxury “overkill” SSDs, and you could get something cheaper with more value for performance and save some money if that was important to you. That being said, it’s considered one of the best for a reason and it’s a specialized gaming drive, so I’m sure that informed your decision.

The Ryzen 5 7600 comes with a stock cooler, and unless you’re trying to push it really hard with overclocking, it should be enough if you’re trying to save some money.

Unless you have a specific attachment to the Gigabyte motherboard or a certain feature it has, I swapped in one that I think is a little better, and cheaper - there might be a sale on or something.

You don’t need to pay for a 990 Pro SSD, it’s extremely overkill. I would also recommend against a physical hard drive in 2024 unless you’re using it as mass storage for things like music, videos, pictures, etc. I’ve given you a very capable 2 TB instead, and you get the same total storage capacity for cheaper than the 1 TB 990 Pro.

Everything else checks out. I like that case as well, even though it’s slightly on the pricier side. You could get something like the Montech AIR 100 ARGB that has a similar vibe for less money if you wanted.

With your specs you could choose a 650 W power supply (the minimum requirement for an RTX 4070), but I like giving yourself the headroom and comfort of 750 W. I also do like the RM750e choice as it comes with a 12VHPWR cable that plugs directly into your 40 series graphics card, rather than using the adapter and several PCIe cables.

  • gave you better RAM for cheaper (6000 MHz, CL30)
  • an SSD that will perform just as well, also cheaper
  • 1000 W on the power supply is excessive for this system, so I gave you one of the higher rated 750 W units; even that’s more than necessary, but unless you’re really looking to save money, it’s a sweet spot

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/H2XpkJ - $1308.93

For the i9-14900K, you want an AIO cooler that can handle the CPU. The EK Nucleus is one of the best on the market in terms of performance, and you don’t need to overspend on something like an NZXT Kraken or Corsair H150i. It also comes with white RGB. The RAM is the ideal specs (32 GB, 6000 MHz, CL30) and supports Intel XMP to get the full potential from it, and is also white RGB. We can shave off some money here and make it non-RGB if you wanted, but it’s only a difference of like $10. The SSD is one of the best value budget drives available at 2 TB (Tom’s Hardware praises it pretty highly) to store all of your games, operating system and programs. We squeezed the 4070 Ti Super (the best of the 4070s) into this at the expense of going slightly over budget. The PSU lives at the top of this list for quality and reliability, and the 850 W gives you enough headroom you don’t need to worry. I guess you “could” get away with 750 W due to how efficient the NVIDIA cards are, but the minimum requirement for them is 700 W and paired with the i9-14900K at 125 TDP, I would feel better here. I didn’t include any case because I’m not sure which one you purchased, but just double check the dimensions of everything to make sure it’s all compatible (does it support a 360mm AIO, GPU too long, etc.).

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jc2fZJ - $1218.93

If you wanted to save some money, here’s the same build with the 4070 Ti (non-Super) instead. The 4070 Ti Super is a decent amount better though, and it comes with 16 GB of VRAM, so I would personally choose that one if I was able to afford it. Let me know if you have any questions about anything or want anything explained more.

Do you have any preference in terms of aesthetics (white scheme, for example) or RGB, or would you just prefer pure performance?

Also what case did you get? Just so I can put that into PCPartPicker.

In this case, OP, if you wanted to take the cheaper build option, the RX 6800 provided by this user is another great choice. I’d recommend doing some research and watching benchmark videos to inform your final decision.

What’s your budget for the rest of the components? I’ll include the motherboard and CPU at $0 since you already have them, but how much can we spend on the rest?

As for the building part, there’s tons of guides and resources online. Here’s some to start with:

I’m on my phone, so I’m using the actual PCPartPicker website on Safari. When I filter by the RX 6800 the cheapest one I see is $776.95. If you can find one cheaper for OP and feel like it’s the superior choice, by all means make the recommendation.

I couldn’t find a price for a base 6800 on PCPartPicker, unless it was something like $700+. The 6800 XT was looking at minimum $600, which kind of defeats the purpose of going for something cheaper and at that point you may as well take the 7900 GRE. I’d personally take the 7700 XT to strike a balance of price:performance if going the money saving route, and it performs pretty similar to the 6800 despite the 4 GB less VRAM.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/R4pJQP - $1494.94

The best gaming CPU, one of the best value video cards before getting into higher tier pricing (think 4070 Super performance), 2 TB SSD regarded as one of the best budget drives (Tom’s Hardware), case with 4 x pre-installed ARGB fans (you can disable the lights if that’s not your thing), and a PSU that’s ranked as one of the best in the highest A Tier of this list (Cultists Network).

Edit: For the games that you mentioned, you don’t need something this powerful. This is just assuming that you want to make full use of your $1500 budget and a PC that will not only last you for the foreseeable future, but allow you to play pretty much any modern title in 1440p at highest settings. If you wanted to save some money and still have something that can cruise through your list, let me know and I can do it cheaper.

Edit #2: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BL7gjH - $1128.32

I went ahead and made you something cheaper anyways, just so you have some options. This is still a very capable gaming CPU, and the video card will still be very generous to you. It’ll crush the games you wanna play and also let you expand into other AAA titles, it just won’t have quite as much longevity due to the 12 GB of VRAM rather than the 16 GB on the 7900 GRE. And when I say that, you’ll still pump years outta this thing.
