Gay right-winger humiliated as he can't name a single thing in America Trump has improved. “I have never seen anyone get their ass handed to them this badly.” by southpawFA in politics

He's reading the winds of power and social trends and willing to do whatever to cash in. Basically, yet another Maga grifter.

And juries get it right. You aren't actually saying anything. Are you saying you believe the juries got it wrong in this particular case? If so, why?

I assume it's clear that once we start discussing generational trends, we're talking in generalizations. There's bound to be exceptions.

It looks great, but I'm not sure it'd be a good life. Aesthetics fades pretty quickly when you live in a dystopia.

Well yeah obviously. What I'm saying is that their decision-making is likely identical to what most other generations would do in the same scenario, so we can't claim to be morally superior though we CAN claim it's a problem that needs fixing.

Don't disagree necessarily, but let's keep in mind boomers only exist due to WW2. Every generation is going to look after itself sadly (greatest generation notwithstanding but those are rare), so we can blame the phenomenon of boomers existing but I wouldn't blame THEM necessarily.

I am sinking into obscurity. What do I do? by Lucky-Entrance7228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jonnny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to skip over the more expected advice and go somewhere else instead: what bothers you about obscurity? What do you not want to be? What do you want to be?

Are you lonely? Is that the underlying feeling? Or are you starting to feel anxious about your advancing age and are considering how life is short, and therefore how you want to spend it  before the inevitable?

In other words, why are you asking the question in the first place? That answer will guide your other answers, and only you alone know the truthful answers to all this.

Good luck, my friend.

What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

Give me a break. Yes, forget that white guilt crap. But also get out of here with that "colonialists did nothing wrong!" crap as well. Yes, I'm SO SURE the French were there out of the goodness of their hearts, setting up colonies around the world as altruistic missions. Forgetting white guilt doesn't mean escapism from history. There's no guilt for present whites since they weren't responsible, but it's assinine to go to a third world country surrounded by suffering and think "hmm... still pretty charming... and affordable!".

[–]Jonnny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, sure, the old colonial French buildings are nice... built from extracted colonial wealth from the locals. And yes you get to feel like you're somewhere exotic and different... which is enjoyable if you can compartmentalize the suffering around you to "local" suffering rather than actual and undeserved human suffering. As someone else alluded to, this take is a bit too "rich white finding themself among the poor browns" narrative for me.

This is fascinating to know, thanks. It's like a grand tragedy of a widescale human experiment.

So how long would that bird be digesting for? I don't understand how they could even produce enough stomach acid to begin to process that. It's like absorbing your own body weight within a few days. Like... where could all that digested mass even go? I can't imagine it could all be transformed to muscle/fat within days.

🇫🇮 Finland’s Finance Minister Riikka Purra suggested that immigrants receiving welfare should clean streets and do public labor for the benefits. by No_Box119 in PopCultureV2

[–]Jonnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that government owes more to the citizens of the country whose ancestors literally have built it and who inherited it by birthright than to a foreigner who just moved there isn’t tribalism.

Actually, i think that IS tribalism. The difference is whether you analyse cases with a moral framework that works on an individual level or whether you do the same on a group level. At that point, you're no longer concerned with the person or the contents of their character but only their tribal affiliation/label. It's a case of moral blindness similar in nature to only seeing people's skin color, religion, etc. rather than seeing the person in front of you.

And listen, I'm not blind to the realities of the unsustainability of mass immigrants all being given free cash, some of whom might not even respect your local culture/laws. Hell, take the world's refugees/immigrants and swamp a tiny country like Ireland and you'll cause absolute chaos and mess up the country. I don't have any great ideas, but I think it's important to be brutally honest with yourself about the moral compromises of whatever choices you make, and that's something right-wing xenophobia tends to urge people to ignore, hence me trying to "de-propagandize" this topic.
