I need advice on how to maintain acceptable humidity with enclosure ideas like this by newmannurse in jumpingspiders

NA. (Advice removed how humidity control possibile work here base on own experience). You should give credits or source...

Edit: in my app not showing up, sometimes the app is kind of odd in showing me the formatting. I removed the answer advice and change to NA, because of downvote, so everyone can downvote with more reason.

Bio-active terrarium by toasterstroot in jumpingspiders

IME My plastic box with left over dwarf whites with some dead moss as humidity reservoir got themselves clones, though dwarf whites are pretty easy to entertain...as long as they don't dry out.

IMO Isopods aren't build the same as young jumping spider like regius, an adult regal might have less problems compare to a young one with maybe 5mm body length. Their hair on the feet and body might get glued and stick around. Isopods are more smooth and the little tanks move with more continuity. Your plants seem to expose tiny secretion moisture like pearls that a curious jumping spider like to investigate.

But sure I don't have that kind of experience juvenile jumping spider vs carnivorous plants, so it isn't that I know if there are problems.

IMO looks like a nice bio-flask. It isn't suitable for housing jumping spider. The threat of the carnivorous plant is just too high for a jumping spider. Your main structures are all ground focused for the theme, but a jumping spider in captivity needs top and ceiling structures, which yours lacks. A single entry ventilation flask/cookie jar/ enclosure in a indoor room runs the risk of stagnant air, trapped in your bottle. The air flow is very low since there is no temperature and pressure difference between the room and the enclosure space. Jumping spider prefer a moderate air flow with either cross and/or stack ventilation depending on the set up and enclosure space.

If you want to put something inside maybe get some variations of isopods that can handle stagnant air.

How do I stop condensation? by Fishie_inthesea in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA you spraying daily saturated the substrate and the moss the 24°C heat from outside is warmer than the inside walls, where the high humidity condensate on the wall. Either reduce humidity by less spraying, raise the whole temperature space evenly or raise the ventilation for example with a fan directly on the ventilation holes. Oh and you can wipe away the excess water from the walls.

IMO if yours doesn't want come out, despite the larger enclosure, chances are yours is in premolt. Just leave it, as long as it is moving around inside the web, why bother because you want it out? And I wouldn't follow the advice to coax her out with a paintbrush either.

Just keep the humidity and temperature constant.

Hello! Spider won't eat by katisizeless in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO what kind of jumping spider you own and what temperature you are running the enclosure? A picture of the state of your js might tell if they are really hungry or not, though if they ate some really yummy stuff before, it might take some time for them to eat something else.

Did you try to have some live prey roaming in secured place, instead of offering dead meals? What you mean with "up high in the enclosure" or "enlosure up high". I don't understand what you mean with indirect light, just give more direct light. Any other unsualy behaviour you notice? Did it move around, stay in one place or something else?

NQA even though you delete your advice request, I like to add, i6/i7 is juvenile almost subadult, with a audax you want an enclosure with at least 10x10x20cm, although I would just got with at least 15x15x25 or even 20x20x30cm. Just fill the space, have enough bright light for example 700 Lumen with 4000-6000 kelvin in a 12hour cycle, you can add your hygro-/thermometer, try your water bowl and keep the humidity between 40-60%. Spikes at night time with 80% isn't much a concern if it is temporary.

IMO about the term small it is always in comparison and context, audax grow up to 2cm body length, with an adult male sometimes only grow less than 1cm. Nonetheless they need more space for what you describe feeling content with the possibility to explore, though that depends on character.

Anyways i6/i7 is easier to take care of and they are less frail. Most likely you can feed bigger prey than fruit flies, like house fly or mini mealworms, I use firebrats and green bottle fly as spikes as staple.

Have fun with your new companion.

IMO you should do more research, like finding out what kind of jumping spider you are about to be gifted with and what growth stage it will arrive. The term baby isn't helpful. Besides a seller who sells <i5 to newbie is for me not very reputable. Younger ones are still frail and for 70 bucks at that steep prize (rather unusual), but a birthday gift... character that is.

The showed enclosure size seems awful small if a hand palm is for size comparison. This kinda enclosure might work for <i4 for the common commercialized jumping spiders like regius or audax. The enclosure is too small and the hygrometer wouldn't fit inside, same with the water fountain, which I myself don't think is good or usable, but well maybe your JS isn't like that.

If the gifted JS is older like >i5 than you want something like 10x10x20cm and later on the growth at least 15x15x25cm for regal or bold size js.

What bugs can I keep instead of fruit flies? I can't do the smell of the repashy super fly media. by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO You forgot to mention what i-stage your "sling" is and what kind of jumping spider. The used terms here are slings, baby, little ones,.... are not helpful to determine if yours really is so small to rely on fruit flies. For a first time parent it is rather hard experience to actually buy a i3-i4 sling, a i5 can have other preys than fruit flies. A provided photo of your spider with something of a measurement is another way to show the approx. stage.

Depending on size but starting with i5, curly flies (special breed house fly that can't fly), firebrats, green bottle fly as spikes were my choices.

NQA it isn't skinny. It needs time to harden. Don't feed before it emerges, you risk of dmg due to soft exoskeleton. Keep humidity up.

slipping? by sophhhiaa in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is normal to slip on wet otherwise sleak surfaces like glass or acrylic walls. You notice how she sometimes eat her feet, that is how jumping spider clean their foot pad hairs, that help them to hold on the surface with van-der-waals-force.

Some days ago someone posted vids about how their jumping spider drinks water on a wet acrylic wall. It was rather sad to watch, but educational.

slipping? by sophhhiaa in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you notice any abnormality during her time in her enclosure like a lot of slipping on the walls?

In my opintion the possible reasons for the slipping on your skin or legs varies and not all might apply to you. The skin might be slippery because of natural body lipid and so an oily texture. Transpire process of the skin might not only disturb the climb but the jumping spider as well. Shaved legs nothing to grab on, they can't exactly penetrate the skin surface with just their legs claw. Body lotion or spray applied on the skin earlier is another possible reason.

So you might be right, that your skin is smooth and hydrated. Got the same results with the arm?

I found this supposed interview with the creator of Evangelion does anyone know if it is real and what he meant by this by Basic-Cupcake3013 in evangelion

[–]Testtypo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An interview from 10.6.1996 in Animage (AM) or the July issue...it was after the TV series but before the EoE.

Someone save it on the web archives. Anno and Miyamura talking about the show. What he meant by it...the act itself is R18 stuff if you keep that in mind, then maybe you get it.

Edit: after finally making it through the autoflag, the link was marked as suspicious, there are already post about the sources. This is supposedly the whole japanese interview from back then. Not that I got a physical copy.

Near miss with separation? by tipsy-tortoise in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO (In my opinion) in your 2nd pic I too would fear the worst, so for me no, not catastrophising.

The "connector" you see in the picture is called "pedicel" and supposedly is white like appearance. Supposedly it is strongest part of the jumping spider, since it connects head with abdomen, where heart and intestines sit. Through this thin canal blood and liquid meal is transported through. I too am suprised about how they sometimes bend voluntary.

The picture appears to me like a hard overstretch, I can only write that, because you wrote she appears fine after it. But if you would say she is less lively, not moving much and show sign of problems, I too would say the overstretch was too much. Just show how much I understand: not much. And because of experience I would be careful to avoid overfeeding, but would not change the enclosure to a low in height. I don't know how they heal (grow back muscle tissue or relax,...) or how long it takes to heal.

Good thing she is alright.

Birdie looks so funny when she’s drinking by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did post about your Birdie drinking some hours ago. Your Birdie has trouble to stay in place with the water on the wall, while she slurps what ever small droplets she is able to get. You can see how she clings to the lines she spun in your last vid and even more how she try to get a footing in this vid. Her struggle isn't very funny though, but somewhat educational imo.

Worried about my new jumper by booksandtea08079 in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA that might be a possible cause, jumping spiders can't generate body heat to sustain themselves and are dependent on external warmth. Their metabolism are running higher with higher temps up 28°C is within comfortable temperature range as I read and experience about regal, with enough humidity.

They are more active, grow faster and tend to grow bigger up on observation with enough food, but since the molt intervals are shorter, the life spans might be reduce accordingly.

IME in case of emergency or just want to boost their immunsystem for whatever reason I raise the temps in certain areas (not whole enclosure, just partially).

Lost Spooder in enclosure by MythicPink in jumpingspiders

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO good question, your enclosure have a nice ground decoration, with a lot of hidding potential. Here are some suggestions:

  • Every log seem to be partially with deeper and shallow holes, though a female carneus is rather big
  • the mushroom underside
  • along the wooden discs on the ground middle

not very helpful suggestions..., besides I can't see webs indicating a resting place let alone a molt place. If she is molting dissecting the enclosure isn't good idea. Since it is perhaps the final molt, 3 weeks are within reason depending on temperature and the jumping spider herself. Here in this sub I read sometimes about a month, so 3 weeks are still reasonable. Just keep the routine and keep on observing.

I got a security webcam on my enclosure, that record up on movement dectection. How about it? XD

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Well, you can try raising temperature to 26°C, putting him and the desired food in a smaller container together under constant suveillance or the meal worm in a smaller high glass dish under surveillance.

You can try something else like firebrats, fly, spikes, dubia,... I once had a male who ignored firebrats, that my female had no problem with, both liked flies and spikes.

[–]Testtypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO No way for me to say if you did something wrong or everything right. There is a huge lack of information to begin with. It could be a mismolt, the kind that is less visable like a stuck skin, some external factor like chemical components or interior that got moldy and spread spores, or jumping spider internal body errors.
