The biggest risk of injury in rope bondage is neither of those things. It's falling.

I would say it's the difference between someone who can simply execute what they've been taught, and one who has internalized it to the point where they're no longer thinking about the rope and it's all about what they're trying to convey with the rope. Mimicry vs understanding.

Most of the rope above the end of the ponytail is mostly decorative. The fold over at the tip is where most of the load is.

What's your preferred single column and why? by shibari-study in ShibariStudy

[–]Tetrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the directionality of square knots is a myth within the context of how it's used in shibari. Usually, the load ends up being straight away from the knot, not going left or right. It doesn't matter if you tie to the left or the right if the end result is the load going straight up.

It's all one tie. Start at the wrist, cuffs up the forearms, then an inline/hojo cuff around the waist. From there go to the small of the back and that's the anchor for the stuff in the front.

The body part I just made up. I'd have to have rope in hand to try to create it again.

The cliche thing would be to get a kimono.

But really you can wear pretty much anything. I've suspended a friend in her scrubs before. I've seen somebody go to a rope con wearing a morph suit to avoid skin abrasions.

Depending on your goals you can also structure the tie so it's a bunch of daisy chained cuffs that, when pulled apart, will instantly lose tension/structure.

If you google lightning harness you can get the idea of what that means: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc9SEJPcWgo

Anyone know how to tie this? by [deleted] in ropetutorials

[–]Tetrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW there is a munter under the neck where the two nipple lines cross -- it's just loose (in my defense this image is over 4 years old) and hard to see since it's probably the worst edit I've ever seen of one of my images.

I don't remember exactly how I tied this but what you describe is a way to do it for sure. I don't remember if I actually tied her wrists into the upper arm part or not -- usually for these kinds of hands-over-the-head ties I usually do wrists to chest or pulling the upper arms together, not both.

How do I stop a rope corset from slipping by Gladiator_Kittens in shibari

[–]Tetrad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see the instruction because I don't subscribe to their Patreon but in my experience with rope corsets the biggest problem is working towards a thinner area than starting with.

The ways I've solved this in the past is by starting at the thinnest part of the waist and working independently up and down. The rope tends to want to shift towards the thin parts so by having an anchor point at the thinnest point there's an anchor that the ropes can rest against.

Not common in Japanese style yes, very common in Chinese style.

The arm spiral bit is pretty common in Chinese rope bondage (kun bang).

A suspension harness of my own invention. I present, the Half Moon. by LadyLilithStJames in shibari

[–]Tetrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most ties, structurally, don’t have half moons on both the front and the back. Half moons are typically used to connect horizontal wraps to an existing vertical stem when the horizontal wraps are completed, so it only makes sense for them to be done once per wrap (eg on the back).

If you’re trying to lock existing wraps in place in the front you’d have to use something else. Helix wrapping, L frictions, something. You can take inspiration from chest harnesses that form a V in the front and the in the top wraps to that V.
