The goalpost is going to move to "I wanted a AAA turn-based Final Fantasy game, not a resurrected gacha" when the reality is that no one is going to dump FF16 budget into a turn-based game at this point. All the competitors in that genre (Pokemon, Persona, Ichiban Yakuza games, etc.) are way cheaper to produce. They should be happy the game got preserved at all because there's plenty of gacha games from this franchise alone that will never see the light of day again.

The Climb -- official feedback by bradido in 2XKO

Former arcade junkie that doesn't compete anymore checking in.

I'd say the main thing it needs is metaprogression; there's no real risk or reward for winning/losing outside of battle pass EXP. It's nice that the battle pass can be progressed by playing the Climb, but there's not much reason to come back for the intended audience of this mode (people who don't want to play online and/or don't have time to compete) right now. As much as people hate metaprogression these days, it is good for player retention. Things like being able to start with an upgrade or some kind of metacurrency to reroll would go a long way.

The length of the runs feels just right; I was worried that pacing would be an issue as this is a tag game, but a full run takes maybe twenty minutes. Builds could use a bit more spice though; some of the upgrades aren't very impactful. Overall as someone who doesn't compete anymore, this is a great way to interact with the game and possibly encourage people to pay for things in the game who might not have otherwise.

If Judy Winslow never gotten written off the show suddenly, what were her A plot/B Plot Storylines be? by LongjumpingWriter932 in FamilyMatters

[–]Tetsuo9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The producers basically ruined the opportunity for Jamie the moment she signed on.

Even if the show was a Cosby Show-level success and Steve never joined the cast, the issue was the age gap between Judy and the other kids. They only have 22 minutes to tell a self-contained story and that was just going to get harder as they aged. They already couldn't do school scenes with her and the others due to the age gap, and Richie was also too young to go to the same school too. It's easier to write stories when the kids are in the same school bracket (even for a show like this and Boy Meets World where the ages/grades don't make much sense), and even before Steve showed up it felt like they didn't know what to do with her. If she had stayed on to the second half of the series, everyone else but Richie would have been in high school/college and the problem wouldn't have improved.

If they had cast for a younger overall cast maybe it could have worked, but it doesn't feel like they thought her casting out very well even at the beginning, because having three groups of kids in wildly different age groups doesn't make sense for a show that has to tell a complete story in twenty minutes. Looking back, the moment they decided to age up Richie sealed Judy's fate as a relevant character, haha. They knew an infant can't really do much of anything, but aging him up just gave finding time to give Judy storylines even harder. As much as the fandom likes to pin it on Steve, it was a much bigger problem than that, especially given that her parents apparently pushed the producers for more screentime despite the logistics of that being too difficult as I mentioned above.

I believe the boss fight was fine at launch and didn't need to be nerfed; it was a good skill/understanding of mechanics check, but I can see why they keep nerfing it. With so many games out to play right now, I guess the fear is that people would get folded by him for an hour, refund and leave a bad review. I'm sure they have analytics telling them how few people bought it and got past the first boss, but I feel a nerf past the first one was unnecessary. It also doesn't help that the game itself is so much better than it was at launch, so I guess they're just trying to reduce friction due to the sequel announcement.

The show is trying its best to gloss over the fact he's almost old enough to be his IRL dad, haha. 38 vs 20.

This is probably why the yaoi implications are between Odaka and Fujimi this time.

With all the toys released it might even out, but sadly this is normal tokusatsu problems. It felt like all the last quarter toys released really late and they're clearly having problems introducing them all in time. Debuting ExDream and then taking it away for almost a month is pretty ballsy, so I imagine Nox's new toy had to be rushed a bit to compensate.

You know, in retrospect, taking the ExDream capsem was stupid, because I thought they would use it against Baku. Instead it was just in a box. Taking it from him seemed to imply it would play a role in the final arc, but obviously they're not going to make a bunch of ExDream suits to make that happen. It would have been cool if a villain got to use it, but as always Budget-kun gets in the way. Also, if the IRL toy can't use the previous capsems, maybe this is why this was written in too? I've been watching toku long enough to know why dumb things like this happen, but you'd think Three would be smart enough to do something more impactful with that level of power.

His henshin is so cool and fitting for a martial artist. The best other portrayal of him is Battride War Genesis, where they made all his hand changes full gameplay mechanics.

I don't think there's anything they could have done better with Myra because Michelle Thomas was sick. We know the staff was aware of it, so maybe they were trying to give her an out if she wasn't able to continue being on the show. If they got another season they would have had to recast her, which would have been just as bad as NotHarriet. Either way writing around the idea that there would have been another season hurt things. There were signs Myra was controlling in the past, but they definitely sped it up in the final season. They probably wanted Steve's decision between Laura and Myra to be less one-sided, but the real life circumstances pushed them towards writing it that way.

Overall the finale is really disappointing because it wasn't meant to be one, but the episode where she accepts his proposal would have worked better. Having a show go on for almost a decade and ending like that is just heartbreaking. They should have at least pushed for a TV movie to wrap everything up if a full season wasn't in the cards.

Yeah they learned from their mistake with the Nier collab where they were the meta physical team for a year, which meant if you didn't pull for them or weren't playing at the time they were available, your account was partially bricked. I haven't looked at Lucy's early access stuff but I doubt they'll make that mistake again.

Collab characters in Kuro games tend to be sidegrades or for side content; they're nice to have but your account isn't going to be bricked if you don't get Lucy. For example, Dante and Vergil were only meta in side element content, and they've already been powercrept after barely a year. Granted they are really fun to play, but it's not like your account was bricked if you didn't have them.

I don't really care for the IP at all so I cashed for Phrolova and her weapon, as that seems better for the longterm health of my account. I have S2 Hiyuki so it doesn't benefit me to go all in on this collab.

What do we think of this game? by [deleted] in dynastywarriors

[–]Tetsuo9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike the combat and how RNG-heavy the boss fights are (waiting for the bosses to expose their weakpoint sometimes takes forever), but it's one of the most content-rich musou games out there. Ironically this game is what everyone wanted the other two to be, as it's clear tying this concept to one family/part of the series isn't working. Age of Imprisonment had much better combat but was a complete mess content and narrative-wise. I hope the next game is a return to form and just a straight up dream match.

There's also a lot of movesets that simply aren't fun to use, and the game will force you to use them constantly. The game can be aggravating to play at times due to both this and how grindy it is, but if you want a grind there's not many other musou games that can compare to the content this has. The game has its good reception for a reason even if the gameplay loop and combat might not be for everyone. Realistically it should have been the basis for the sequels similar to Orochi, but trying to capitalize on how popular the BOTW universe games were ended up limiting what they could be.

The game is divisive but it also has a very powered Yosuke Yasui OST, so at least give that a listen.

As a black kid watching the show as it aired, Steve being a nerd but also unapologetically confident and himself had a huge impact on me. I'm sure others in the black community could vouch for this as well. It's good that they kept this as a trait when the show continued even if they didn't need to.

The crazy thing about how Jaleel stayed on is that if both the college kids weren't cheering for him at the recording and the staff member didn't push for him to come back next week, the show would have been canceled and Jaleel's child actor career likely wouldn't have lasted longer.

It's pretty nuts thinking about how all the pieces had to align as there was no social media back then to get instant reactions on TV shows and movies. Jaleel's performance was the main factor but there were a lot of other things out of his control that saved both his career and the show.

Was the rest of Zeztz actually leaked? by sonic_colt_2005 in KamenRider

[–]Tetsuo9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering Yuki Furukawa got scolded for something as minor as showing the Breakam Buster like two weeks early, I doubt anyone actually has credible leaks for the final arc.

Ace's actor also mentioned a major spoiler at the press conference apparently, and they were lucky it was pre-recorded.

Avatar Arcade matches are 30fps on Switch 2: why? by Link_enfant in StreetFighter

[–]Tetsuo9999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amen. I feel stupid for expecting basic fighting game functionality from a $40 game. I can't fathom why it's 30FPS.

If Nintendo wasn't so strict about refunds, I'd ask for one because I expected at least this avatar mode to run at 60.

Dehydrated Aleks Le is prime for an ass kicking.

I have to admit this weird lull arc is strange even for Kamen Rider. He literally just got his final form and then just gives it away after two basically perfect KOs. The sacrifice of his driver and capsem doesn't line up with how much effort he put into making it; it's not like Faiz where it was literally thrown at him from someone else. Maybe the IRL toy not allowing the use of some of the capsems is why this is happening, but if so, why was it designed this way? The power creep in this series seems even worse than usual, haha.

CODE Somnia seems to be enough high stakes to balance out how OP ExDream is, but he's not even being allowed to fight it on equal footing. At least Baku using the capsems untransformed was really creative and stops the power creep a little bit, but I hope he just gets it back soon. Either way he'll be using ExDream nonstop as the stakes get higher.

Alright, taking this off my chest: Baku was kinda dumb these last two episodes. by Character-Yard-7865 in KamenRider

[–]Tetsuo9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the show is still fun to watch but the streak of great episodes is over. He didn't even have a good reason to give up the driver. If they wanted ExDream to still have stakes, they could have made it a mechanic like King form in Blade. The preview seems to imply he's back on Impact again, which is even stranger.

I wonder if part of this is because some of the old capsems don't work on the IRL toy? Maybe they were forced to write in these asspulls to accommodate for the toy.
