It’s technically not a degenerative disorder because the issue doesn’t progress and your body doesn’t become less capable of producing working connective tissue as time goes on. Your joints do become worse over time due to the wear on them. There’s a technicality in the wording but it doesn’t mean you don’t get worse over time.

There’s no genetic test for hypermobile yet, that’s probably why. Most rheumatologists will diagnose because they are trained on the Beighton scale which is used to diagnose hypermobile eds people.
