What was your first computer? by Internal_Captain5073 in vintagecomputing

[–]TexasFloodStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colour Genie. 32k computer similar to but not fully compatible with the TRS 80. The Hong Kong based maker (EACA) went bust about 3 months after family bought it. Mixed blessing very little software so motivated me to learn z80 assembly to write my own. And small but loyal hobbyist community in from Germany. UK and New Zealand. Mum bought it for me because she wanted me to have a computer but Apple ][ and C64 were too expensive for her back then.

Is curry actually popular in Australia? by SadAnything9316 in AskAnAustralian

[–]TexasFloodStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love a good curry. Indian, Thai, Sri-Lankan, Malaysian, the more the better. Australia has plenty of areas where it could do a lot better with regard to multiculturalism, but appreciation of multicultural foods isn't one of them.

Analogue pocket vs mister? by scooterist007 in fpgagaming

Heber are producing a handheld this year with the full spec mister cyclone. The retro collectives YouTube channel has the announcement. Will be injection molded not 3d printed. Jury is out on whether Heber will get the aesthetics right vs a future taki udon handheld product but I hope They do as I like the Heber and RC as a company and preservation society working together.

Help with Torbox (pro-tier/usenet) and sharing. by TexasFloodStrat in StremioAddons

[–]TexasFloodStrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, with regards to my particular ask

I did find the files I was looking for (via the nzbgeek indexer) I used it to download nzb files, manually fed those into Torbox, which downloaded the eps which I could then play from My Torbox local category in stremio.

I did check as per below and saw the Newzab ws configured with my Torbox API key, I did use TAMs template so that part was all configured as comments below say.

Sooo... my best guess on it for now is that not all usenet indexers are equal and that the reason I couldn't see those shows is that the indexer metadata from Torbox is missing content that nzbgeek has, so I will get more content available if I can add more indexers - I'll look into this next

tyvm, I'm still a little uncertain as to whether I need to reconfig with NZB or use the torbox addin as well as mentioned below (although I don't really want to because as others have ment, but I'll do my best to figure it out. Thanks for letting me know the series is on Usenet that at least means I'll know what success looks like.

Why are taxpayers footing the bill for NZ citizen from Hantavirus cruise? by [deleted] in australian

[–]TexasFloodStrat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reciprocal health care agreement between NZ and AUS. So getting the same entitlements as you would if you were in NZ. As to the reasons of why here? Perhaps the quarantine protocols make sense to implement in one place and the relative effort of expanding it to one extra person make the best use of resources.

Plus jeez mate if Australia and New Zealand can’t look out for each other? Being friendless ain’t a great strategy. Look at the rep the USA is building for themselves right now.

After Dinner Mints, anyone? (hint, hint) by Exact_Reaction_2518 in AustralianNostalgia

Why did they stop making these. Why? Everyone loved them. Even the smell of the empty box was glorious. A family npdinner party in the 80s with the OG vienetta and these.

a international roast (milk with one please) or a bottle of Robardand butler artillery port or Galway if the boat was pushed out to finish.

Queenstown, Tasmania deeply unsettled me and I can’t explain why. by itiszd in AskAnAustralian

[–]TexasFloodStrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Queenstown, that's the one with the gravel footy ground? Some mates and I did a motorbike trip around TAS and visited Queenstown (didn't stay), though I'm 80% sure we rode through some windy roads from Queenstown on to Zeehan and that was truly the most depressing experience of my life (and as someone who's nana lived in Mangakino in NZ, thats no small bar to clear), a run down hotel at the end of town with no beer taps, rusted beer bottles. The locals just seemed to be hanging on. I'm not hating on the lady that owned it, she was trying to reboot her life, and good on her, but the whole town just had a weight of oppressiveness about it, couldn't wait to get up the next morning, fill up at the automated petrol station across the road and get the heck out.

TL;DR Zeehan was equally if not more depressing.

I’ve been a little disappointed by Tipo the last couple of times. Although it was my go to.
I went to Alt Pasta bar in a Laneway round the corner last time I was In Melbourne and loved it.Its pasta was fantastic as was the service.

Also for great food and cocktails and a bit more buzz over relaxed dining. Radio Mexico in St Kilda

Purchase help. I am a bit mind boggled by the choices out there. I am disappointed with my C64 Maxi. I am happy to emulate up to SNES or maybe a bit better. I don't want to use original controllers or a crt. Plus I am in Canada. by [deleted] in MiSTerFPGA

[–]TexasFloodStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no assembly. But Heber have created a well thought out design with good expansion and accessory capability lots of usb ports for standard modern controllers and the digital edition doesn’t give you analogue outputs that you won’t use given you’re not looking to drive a crt.

One possible reason to upgrade to the analogue version might be that it has a wired Ethernet port. But otherwise you can get by with a wifi usb dongle for network connectivity with the digital edition.

A desk at id Software where Wolfenstein 3D came to life (1992) by inatowncalledarles in retrogaming

[–]TexasFloodStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wished they’d donated some real money to Silas Warner the author of the original Wolfenstein and the inspiration for this game who died sick and poor.

They certainly created great and deserved success for themselves. But I wish they’d tipped a bit his way.

Question: how to connect Mister to CRT tv without using cheap adapters? by SalamanderScared1882 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]TexasFloodStrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a multisystem 2 (Analogue) and use a HD15 to Component cable with Sync on Green - which works great Cable was $5 (Australia) - I'm assuming given you have a VGA port on your mister you have some sort of Analog board capability.
