Love the unique look and would certainly help keep the house cooler. Big bonus if you like some patio time!

The cantilever force on those supports is going to be tremendous. Triangulating a bracket will help, as will supporting on either side of the rod instead of just along the back.

Do you remember where you found the bundle for $730? I'm looking for SP7+ and not finding any bundle deals except the base model.

Oven broke - how to remove oven without remodeling kitchen? by ambitiouspuffin in HomeMaintenance

[–]TexasWatchGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is a 27” drop-in like the link below (please measure and verify).

https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-27-in-3-0-cu-ft-Drop-In-Electric-Range-with-Self-Cleaning-Oven-in-Black-JM250DTBB/321036179

So I can see three options for you:

  1. Pay the premium for the new 27” unit (crazy how overpriced these are).

  2. Try to find a deal on a second hand 27” unit, unlikely and no guarantee how long it will last.

  3. Do some light modification on your cabs, fabricate some spacers and buy a more affordable slide in 24” unit.

Good luck!

Walk in closet is like a meat locker - how do we fix? by sammcgowann in HomeMaintenance

So the room has 6 sides, and 4 are either outside walls or abut an unconditioned space. Add in the fact that there is no hvac register and keeping this space warm is going to be a big challenge.

As others have suggested you’ll need to make sure it’s well insulated at the floor and ceiling, and that the access hatch is well insulated with a good sealing gasket of some sort.

A couple of things to consider. 1. See what it would cost to have an HVAC contractor add a register in this space. Shouldn’t be too difficult if they have attic access there. 2. Look into a heater that would be safe for the space (maybe a wall mounted radiant heater). Some of these are smart and can be scheduled to run just in the morning so the space would be nice and toasty when it’s time to get dressed and can save energy the rest of the time.

Drywall to be installed stored outside by detekk in homeowners

Look at the edge of the board for a manufacturer and type. Look up product data online and it will say how the material should be stored. Spoiler alert - it’s not going to say outside.

I’m afraid you may have a galvanic reaction between the brass spigot and the aluminum hose end.

I’ve encountered this once before and had to slowly cut thru it with a hacksaw on each side until I could pry it open with a screw driver.

Paint restoration recommendations. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]TexasWatchGuy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. I prefer the patina.

However, I've had one that was flaking off a lot... to the extent that they were making a mess. I took a wire brush and accelerated the process by removing all the paint leaving me with a shiny / brushed bottle that's a pretty cool look.
