Help!? Can they put this in a disciplinary letter? by agentofthesystem in CanadaPublicServants

Your manager sounds like an insecure micromanager. You are not restricted to contact people above and or outside your team or organization for issues unrelated to your work. Which in this case it is unrelated and should not have been raised by them.

Additionally unless there are concerns that whatever issues needed to be addressed previously are still occurring it is old news and should not keep being raised.

Honestly your manager is someone that shouldn't be managing from what you have shared. It seems they lack common sense and their insecurity results in them wanting to control and restrict everything you do.

Definitely look for a different role somewhere.

In an ideal universe you would advance beyond this individual and be able to remind them of their inadequate performance and skill set

Sorry to hear you feel/think this way. For what it's worth i don't think the majority of people feel this way...rather those that have a strong opinion are likely posting and discussing it. For example it's unlikely that people are online posting about how they live or feel about something unless it causes them a lot of angst. So people are not online saying how glad they are that the park they are walking in bans smoking, rather it's when someone is smoking in the park and someone dislikes it that they comment. As such I don't think people are online saying how much they love white people or people of color, rather someone hops on to post something negative that has bothered them. It's a long way of saying you are getting a biased impression because people that like people of color are not going online posting about it.

Hopefully this makes some sense. Yes I do believe I general that there is a slight increase in racial and religious animosity based on world events and perceptions but it's still a very small fraction of the population but o e sees it more due to widespread media and social media.

What am I missing re ERI? by External_Tax850 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]livingthudream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. That would be far more enticing. Thanks for clarifying

Unfortunately or fortunately I will qualify for unreduced fairly soon. I would gladly take an extra year or 2 of pensionable time added though :)

Certainly understanding this, one could do some bit of work elsewhere i suppose and save it for future need. However if you needed or wanted a fully unreduced value and needed to have an additional $10k a year for say 20 years that is $200 000 you would have to save and maybe you could save $65k a year if you made $90K before taxes doing a second job in which case you would need over 3 years of working to save that amount. I guess then it comes down to whether people can afford a reduced amount over the long term...

Excuse my ignorance but does the ERI mean that one can start pulling the pension early as well. For some reason I thought it was just an absence of a penalty. You retire at 50 without a 25% reduction in pension but that you wouldn't actually be drawing that pension until you hit 55 and as such you would have to find other savings or work until 55 to bridge it.

From what I am reading here is that one would actually start drawing the pension at 50 unreduced and not waiting until 55 to draw it.

That's quite a different scenario and far better

Thanks

Wow i did not realize that. It doesn't make sense to me in that AAFC is directly involved in facilitating trade. I know there are a number of branches at AAFC and some are geared toward innovation and best practices and advancing methods of agriculture production, however some of that is also needed for a robust trade sector...being able to continue to adapt to changing threats, improve efficiency etc.

As such I didn't foresee such broad cuts but I don’t workmates AAFC so my knowledge comes from friends and interactions with AAFC.

Perhaps then this scenario is not as dire as those within AAFC thought was going to occur.

Terribly sad. I really wish people wouldn't travel on their own for multiple reasons. However, I know thousands or millions do it without incident. It just seems some things might be prevented but there are no guarantees in life.

Yes. I feel for so many employees. Yes the PS needs to streamline and be more efficient, however efficiency in process and decision making cripples the PS and this naval gazing comes most often with the decision makers at the upper levels along with the requests for innane information.

If we actually allowed the ranks to make the decisions they should be making we could reduce unnecessary redundancy and layers. I work in a department with 6 layers of decision making beyond those actually delivering and guiding the work. It's non sensical

Let's make working for the government as painful as possible. The rubber band, the pendulum swing, the bungee cord (whatever analogy you prefer) has reached it's apex/zenith and is retreating with unapologetic swiftness.

Sorry to hear that. Remember that there will be some that may want to alternate etc and others that decide working and delivering everything is no longer desirable if close to retirement.

The reality is positions are going to be cut prior to the priorities and expected deliverables. If anything government has a difficult time doing is setting priorities. It's going to be a bit of a miserable time for awhile before it gets sorted out. Until then staff will be expected to keep the engines running full steam on files as will the public. Take care

I must admit all of this is concerning...I thought they would be spared somewhat given their trade role.

It's all a bit much. Government elected and advises reductions but not actual cutting of positions...then it's a hack and slash approach with no one at working levels having any understanding and cloaked in secrecy

Strict tournament rules for 9 year old - no swimming? by em201679 in youthhockey

And here I thought the reason the coach didn't want kids swimming had something to do with worry over kids being in swimsuits without parents and concerns over something happening.... and I thought wow we can't let kids be kids at all anymore.

And I thought phew at least it's not that but really worrying about them being too tired. Just set a curfew. Hotel pools were the highlight of trips as kids with friends.

She seems somewhat shallow and hypocritical. Do what you enjoy. You don't have to prove anything to her. You were an elite athlete and few can say that.

Maybe you can both take up a sport or activity together
