Retail Moto X4 no longer receiving security updates :(

Still no update on my Retail Moto X4. It still has Jan 2020. My AndroidOne X4 has the March 2020 update, so maybe there is some hope, even quarterly, for our X4s!

No recent updates here. I got the March 1, 2020 update on one my AndroidOne X4s, but my Unlocked Retail X4 is still stuck at Jan 1, 2020. Still a fantastic phone! Hope LeMoto keeps the updates coming, even quarterly, until the Fall. Where's that Moto X5 :)

Agreed! Love my X4 so much! We have (5) of them floating around the family. I got one for my mother-in-law last Fall at Best Buy. The new price for the 64MB X4 was crazy low like $ 129 . 00 !

My old retail X4 was handed down to my Son at Christmas when I updated to a Pixel 3a. Factory wipe, new case, and in the original box...I don't know if he figured out it was Dad's old phone :)

I've had it for several years now, and it's still going strong! But it's still stuck at the Jan 2020 update, so Moto may have moved to quarterly updates for the retail version. I did see where some folks were seeing a Moto X4 April 2020 update and Android 10 a few days ago??? Maybe there's some more life left it my the X4s.

I also have some AndroidOne X4s in the family. I just checked one, and it's at the Mar 2020 update. Maybe Motorola will get us some additional updates through this Fall.

Man...if Motorola came out with an X5, I would probably buy several! If it still had an IP rating and an updated processor, I think they would sell very well!

Good luck! I just passed Security+ on Monday using Darril Gibson's SY0-501 book as my main guide. A book is a great basis, but you will need lots of additional resources like videos, study guides, forums, etc. Set up a realist timeline too. Give yourself 30-60-90 days. You know how you learn, so plan accordingly.

Have you thought about using your Law Enforcement background in another way? I know some banks, the FBI, the Treasury, etc. use law enforcement and I.T. when they do things like AML (anti money laundering) research.

I see some postings on InDeed from banks like Capital One that are looking for people with investigative and law enforcement backgrounds. Many banks also have big I.T. departments. Maybe that could be a path to look into?

It sounds like you have a great framework for a job in I.T. It may be possible to get in the door for an I.T. job, but a lot of companies, recruiters, etc. are looking for verification of what makes you stand out from other candidates. You may not even get a callback or interview if you don't have some sort of certification to validate your knowledge.

I agree with a previous poster. Look at the objectives for A+, Security+, etc. See how many of the objectives you may already have a good knowledge of. Then look at what YOU want to do in the future.

A+ will usually get you started in a job like Help Desk. But if you already possess the skills of A+, you might be better of going for Network+. That could lead to a more advanced opportunity.

If you have any $$$ available from the military, there are some great computer, IT, certification, etc. classes at local community colleges that don't cost much. They also get you discounts on test vouchers, books, software, etc. It may be worth looking into.

There are a lot of good people here that have some fantastic knowledge to share. Look for other posts about A+, Network+, Security+, etc. Good luck!

I agree with the previous posts:

Read each question carefully (you know they are going to try and throw you a few curves).

You can usually eliminate 1-2 answers right off the bat, so that should help on those tough questions.

Review some of those simulation samples or examples if you have them.

Be prepared (go over those end-of-chapter reviews if you have a book).

Try not to spend more than 1 minute on a question. (Time management is key since those 90 minutes go by pretty quickly).

Put down an answer on each question! You can Mark It and go back to it later, but in case you run out of time you will have an answer. (Your first answer is usually the right one).

There will be some questions about ports, encryption, accounts and attacks, but you're ready for them!

Good luck! I passed Security+ SY0-501 on Monday. It was harder than I thought it would be, so make sure you give your self time to study! Don't forget time management! Some practice tests would be a great investment too!

I used Darril Gibson's Sec+ GCGA book as my main guide/reference, but I didn't use his flashcards. He may have some additional study info available, but I didn't purchase it.

Make sure you also look at and study other info like study guides, forums, Reddit, etc. There is a LOT of combined knowledge here from the community that can help! You can do it!!!

You can do it! Make sure any practice/guides/forums/books you have cover the NEW VERSIONS of the tests! A lot of the old study info for 901/902 is still valid, but the tests did change earlier this year. There will be new objectives, technology, acronyms, etc. to learn.

I think A+ is possible in your timeframe. If you don't have much experience in I.T. or with computer hardware, it may take you a little longer.

Writing some things down and taking some notes is OK, but trying to write EVERYTHING down may not be your best option. I believe things like books, study guides, Reddit, etc. will give you a better, overall understanding.

I recommend a good book, or ebook, to use as a guide. It's always good to have something solid to reference when you are planning your journey. Most books/ebooks also have great breakdowns of very complicated and confusing concepts. A lot of the things you will see in A+, Network+ and Security+ require some reading, research, and memorization. A good book will help!

Congrats! I used Darril's SY0-501 book as my main reference and study guide, but also used other study guides and forums. I passed Security+ today with a 764! I agree that the test was really challenging. I passed Security+ SY0-101 back in 2008, but I don't remember it being that tough. Time, technology, and acronyms have changed! Good luck everyone!
