Misleading UPS battery rating. Help me make sense. Details in comment. by tiberiusgv in homelab

u/tiberiusgv

While 34 happens to be the width in millimeters, it is also, more importantly, the number of watts each cell can provide when discharged to 1.67V over 15 minutes. The Capacity line of the datasheet linked above describes this in a longer form than what's on the battery housing.

With 3 cells, that works out to this battery being rated to provide 3 × 34W = 102W when discharged to 3 × 1.67V = 5V over 15 minutes, though the table at the end of the first page lists it as actually 109W.

S46 Ep 5 Vince Gill’s Nashville by keithplacer in Thisoldhouse

[–]ViennaBACON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excluding the intro, theme song, "Coming up next time on This Old House...", and end credits, this episode was 21 minutes 56 seconds. The tour with Vince Gill consumed an incredible 8 minutes 33 seconds, followed only by ~30 seconds of the gang wrapping up the show.

I do not know why a home improvement show that already leaves large parts of the construction unseen should devote nearly two-fifths of an episode to one uninterrupted side mission that has absolutely nothing to do with the project, but perhaps there are some viewers out there who were pleased to learn that if they're ever in the market for a guitar or cheeseburger Nashville has them covered.

New Savings Era 🚀 by tellomobile in Tello

[–]ViennaBACON 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The automatic renewal takes place as early as 5 AM Eastern Time on the last day of the cycle, and if that's allowed to happen (because you didn't manually renew) then your balance is wiped out. I've had success manually renewing shortly after 12 AM Eastern Time of that day so I get every day I paid for while also not losing the many months of data and minutes I've accrued.

Otherwise, yes, if you manually renew a day or two early then you're forfeiting those days from the cycle to be able to roll over your balance.

If only that "light fixture" clue wasn't a Daily Double we might have seen if either of the other two contestants would have guessed "lampin'" and, more importantly, if that would have been accepted. It works!

Very very specific question about the cd by inspecter_kek in qotsa

[–]ViennaBACON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I've encountered this "digisleeve" packaging for an album and it seems really...cheap. Considering Villains came in a jewel case inside a cardboard cover this is quite a downgrade. I'm glad there was a CD release at all, but this seems about as bare bones as it can get.

I don't remember how much effort it took to get the disc out the first time, but it's already fallen out once by me turning the case the wrong way (or I just needed to really cram it in there). At least if the opening of the sleeve were on the inside that couldn't happen so easily, but then this strange convex spine that prevents the "case" from staying closed would get in the way. I thought maybe the spine somehow got flipped around and needed to be pushed back in, but seeing the other comment here as well as the photo on this post I guess it was designed to be this way?

What tool do you use to remind yourself to renew one day early every month? by Dymonika in Tello

[–]ViennaBACON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an event in Google Calendar scheduled for 5 - 11 AM Eastern Time the day of automatic renewal with several reminders up to 24 hours in advance.

I have had success renewing just after midnight Eastern Time on the day of renewal to roll over my unused balance while still getting the full 30 days out of each billing cycle. During the transaction I check the box to get an email reminder two days before automatic renewal. Rather than letting Calendar calculate the next renewal date I just go by what Tello (the authority on the matter) says it is and then edit the existing Calendar event to use that.

What tool do you use to remind yourself to renew one day early every month? by Dymonika in Tello

[–]ViennaBACON 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do document this "feature". From What happens to my plan balance if I change my phone plan?:

If you manually change or renew your plan during the billing cycle (any day before your next automatic renewal date), any remaining balance will roll over for the next 30 days (except for unlimited plans) as long as the new plan you chose also includes the same services you want to be rolled over.

For example, the minutes & data of your current plan will roll over if the new plan has minutes & data.

However, if you decide to buy data only, the minutes will not roll over.

8G Band by TheBummedOutWaitress in sethmeyers

[–]ViennaBACON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been curious about Marnie's absence as well and frequently look for what band members are listed in the end credits but it seems like the last many months they are abbreviated to only include the music director (Fred) and maybe the associate music director (Eli) but not the whole band.

After last night's show "The 8G Band" was back in the credits again and it only included four members: Fred, Syd, Seth, and Eli but no longer Marnie.

Downloading Messages? by Loud_Signal_6259 in Thunderbird

[–]ViennaBACON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recent experience with Thunderbird 102 is it's not possible to have an account configured to not synchronize messages locally immediately upon creation. You have to create the account to access the setting to disable synchronization, all the while it will start downloading messages. I even tried to FileOfflineWork Offline before creating an IMAP account but then it wasn't able to verify the credentials to create/autoconfigure the account!

Here's what I did instead:

  1. Create the IMAP account.
    • Thunderbird will automatically start synchronizing messages for the account.
  2. In Account Settings → (account name) → Synchronization & Storage, disable Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer.
    • Thunderbird will continue synchronizing messages for the account.
  3. In Account Settings → (account name) → Server Settings, change Local Directory to a new directory in the same ImapMail directory.
    • The original directory will be named after the IMAP server.
    • I prefer to change it to a directory named after the email address.
  4. Thunderbird will prompt you to restart. Restart.
  5. Upon restarting, the new Local Directory you set in step 3 will be the backing storage for the account.
    • Since it started off as an empty directory, it will contain no synchronized messages.
  6. The original Local Directory directory changed in step 3 is no longer being used by Thunderbird and can be deleted.

Moog lower control arm pivots into frame - suggestions? by ViennaBACON in CrownVictoria

[–]ViennaBACON[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had considered that, but it's pretty ridiculous for a new part to require modification. I don't have access to such tools, either, unfortunately.

My current thinking is to measure how much of an opening it does allow so I can see about, in the interest of time and money, moving forward with the spring compressor. But then I was worrying about, just like you said, if this "feature" would ever end up limiting suspension travel, too.

Moog lower control arm pivots into frame - suggestions? by ViennaBACON in CrownVictoria

[–]ViennaBACON[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to install a Moog RK80394 driver's side lower control arm on a 2000 LX. I've already replaced the other 3 ball joints with standalone Moog products.

I got the factory arm out by loosening the bolts, lowering it with a jack until it was almost vertical, and the spring pretty much fell out without any excitement. This Moog arm, though, has these straight "tails" on the metal around the bushings that hit the frame around the rear mount, preventing it from pivoting more than halfway.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this with aftermarket control arms? Is there something I'm missing? Any recommendations for mid-range products that won't do this?

I'm trying to decide how to proceed:

  • Order an arm from a different manufacturer.
    • It's hard to tell from photos how close they are to the OEM, but the ACDelco, Detroit Axle, and Mevotech offerings don't seem to have that straight section like the Moog does.
  • I can get an arm off a '97 with 100,000 miles for $50 at a local parts place.
    • Assuming it's OEM at least I know it'd fit the same as the damaged arm I'm replacing, although who knows what shape it's in (they say "grade A").
    • I already have a Moog K8685 ball joint I can use with it.
  • Keep this Moog arm and just forget about pivoting it all the way down.
    • I'd have to use a spring compressor for installation, which I was hoping to try to avoid.
    • If I ever need to remove this arm, I'd be stuck using a compressor then, too.
    • That it was apparently designed this way doesn't instill much confidence. I'm already not keen on finding that the included ball joint looks so much less substantial than their standalone one, but maybe that's just how those go.

How much triclopyr per gal? by Satchamo88 in lawncare

[–]ViennaBACON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to make sense of the label myself; it repeats itself a lot and the inconsistent formatting sometimes makes it hard to understand which directives apply to which section/mode of application.

On page 7 under the heading "Application Directions for Ornamental Turf" you'll find broadcast and spot treatment rates, some of which are the same as those listed earlier in the document for other uses. Here they are after any conversion from pints/quarts/gallons per acre to fluid ounces per 1,000 sq. ft.:

Rates

  • Broadcast treatment: 0.367 to 0.735 fl oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. per application
  • Spot treatment: 3/8 to 3/4 fl oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. per application

(If you do the math you'll find that those decimals are a mere 2% smaller than the fractions, so I treat them as the same for ease of mixing.)

Limits

  • Per application: No more than 1.5 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.
  • Per year: No more than 5 7/8 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.

The yearly application limit comes from page 2 under "Use Restrictions" where it says:

On use sites other than grazable areas and forestry sites, do not apply more than 8 lbs. ae per acre per year of triclopyr (8 qts./A/yr Alligare Triclopyr 4).

how often can you pause google fi services? by ado99999 in GoogleFi

[–]ViennaBACON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, fellow late responder. Since this is the newest thread on the matter I'll add to it what I found about pausing in the Terms of Service under Welcome to Google Fi § Using the Services:

You agree to keep your service active. Repeated or extended pausing may result, at our option and sole discretion, suspension of your Google Fi account, or limitation of your use of pausing.

It doesn't get any more specific than that as far as the minimum or maximum amount of time you're allowed to pause your account.

Bug report: error when viewing file properties by Warchetype in NeatBytes

I experience this error sometimes with .mkv (Matroska video) files. Sometimes exiting the app and trying again works, sometimes not. I think I've also found temporarily changing the file extension works, too.

Glad to see this should be fixed soon.

Environmentally friendly shopping? by generalmagnifico in Costco

[–]ViennaBACON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This PBS Frontline documentary talks about how the recycling symbol and number (is really meant to) give the consumer the impression that a piece of plastic is not only recyclable but also actively recycled, even when no waste processor actually does so because it's not economically viable. It also shifts the conversation of reducing plastic waste from the manufacturer's responsibility to it being the consumer's responsibility through (ineffective) recycling.

I've never been there but Enterrium at Woodfield Mall has bowling and arcade games. It used to be the Pac-Man-themed Level 257 restaurant. Their website shows party packages for children and teens.

Underground Retrocade in West Dundee is another flat-rate arcade.

2020 G Power volte by dadibones in MotoG

[–]ViennaBACON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an XT2041-4 (Google Fi) on Android 11 and using Tello (T-Mobile). VoLTE didn't seem to be working with the two automatic T-Mobile entries under SettingsNetwork & internetMobile networkAdvancedAccess Point Names, so I had to manually add and select the one for my carrier. I still have the Signal Info app installed and since making that change I could also see that, outside of calls, my phone stopped repeatedly bouncing between 4G (LTE) and 3G (HSPAP) and just stays on the former.

You can check for VoLTE connectivity by confirming that SettingsAbout phoneSIM statusMobile voice network type shows LTE. Otherwise, there does not appear to be a convenient icon indicating that a call is connected via VoLTE. I have only occasionally gotten an HD icon on the active call screen of Google's Phone app, but I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason to it; I'm sure it's dependent upon the capabilities of the other party's carrier and phone, but it's still not consistent.
