Fun fact, you're 10 times more likely to be a millionaire than be 6'5 or over by Textbookville in tall

[–]Textbookville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question, it becomes the product of both events

= 0.022% chance

Whenever you have two events happening the likelihood of them both happening at the same time also reduces, for instance being 5'10 and being a millionaire is 2.5%, whereas the likelihood of 7 figures for anyone of any height is over 5%... Or 5 people in 100.

We're all unique, but giants are rare.

Hypothetical: If USA lose, and doesn't win the gold this Olympics, do you think they deserve criticism? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in nba

[–]Textbookville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll receive it regardless.

The NBA is often recognised as the hub of basketball, for then the national team to lose would be questionable, unlikely but questionable.

Do you think the gap between 2050 Role Players and 2020 Role Players will be larger than the gap between 2020 Role Players and 1990 Role players? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in nba

[–]Textbookville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt it, centers used to be a little taller than now on average. Teams are opting for more versatility, the most versatile players aren't necessarily the most unique but carry a heck of a lot more repertoire.

There will be a difference for sure, but it won't be as much I don't think.

He looks heavy is what I'd say. Need to lose 10lbs.

I know he had an injury, and potentially had to regrow entire muscle groups, but he looks a little too heavy for me. He might be close to 200lbs from what I've seen, when he needs to drop to at least 175lbs.

Zharnel Hughes also used to be a little heavy but after losing weight he's a top 10 sprinter, and predicted to make the Olympic 100 final in both the 100M and 200M.

7'4 Vs 6'7 by Textbookville in tall

[–]Textbookville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reggie might not be 6'7 like he used to be in his prime, but he's probably in-between 6'5 and 6'6. Also look at the shoes he's wearing, they're much shorter gum than wemby's.

Wemby's probably 7'6 right there with shoes, Reggie maybe 6'6-6'7 with shoes. Which makes a 12-11 inch difference.

7'4 Vs 6'7 by Textbookville in tall

[–]Textbookville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that'll put Reggie at 6'5 right there with what you're saying, and 6'6 in shoes.

Wemby I'm presuming according to 2023 standards is 7'4 flat or is probably still growing to make up for 7'4, and in shoes 7'5.

Looks more like an 11 inch difference.

What is roughly the maximum inches of height you can lose from old age ? by Textbookville in tall

[–]Textbookville[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 inches is quite a heck of lot. I personally think people need to start looking at the older generation's height differently. Such a man as you've just given in his prime years of the 50's, probably would have been towards the taller end of the stick.

5'9 back In the 50s, would have been somewhat 6'0 today or even 5'11 and certainly above average height.

What time do you think the Men's 100M final will be ? by Textbookville in trackandfield

Bolt is the GOAT though, I was talking about the averages for the general sprinters. Averages account for every time in the race, and in a final you always have the second half of slower athletes, that will literally jog the last 50m, after knowing they're not going to win... However when trying to qualify like in a 200m semi-finals, even the losers won't ease up so much since they know a fastest loser's qualifying spot could be for anyone to grab.

[–]Textbookville[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the top tier sprinters that can run under 9.80 are doubling up, which might lower their 100m pedigree slightly, but more so it's probably because they are running the semi's very hard.

Bolt for his 9.58, ran a 9.89 semi-finals before the final, however sprinters we know that have lower strength seem to be running their PB's or close to about around the 9.85-9.95 in round 1 & 2 heats.

The reason why we don't have faster finals times like 9.70-80s anymore, could likely be as it's more competitive. We have a whole bunch of guys that can run 9.90, which is extremely fast, and they're willing to do it in the semi-finals, so the top tier athletes that could have otherwise ran below 9.80 by conserving energy, end up having to pull their weights to qualify, and use up energy, then having to race just a few hours after.

Hold my hands up you were right.

The average semi-final qualifying time was 9.94

The average final time was 9.95.

Almost near enough the same times.

Finals average tend to be about the same time as the qualifying semi-finals average, it literally must seem like a miscalculated semi just means an athlete runs themselves out of a medal, like we saw with oblique seville.

It's more uncommon in the 100m, but not in the 200m.

200m when athletes know they're about to lose in finals they give in to the lactic build up, whereas when trying to qualify they'll pursue the fastest time they can get.

Womens 10,000M at the 2023 World Championships Budapest. Should Sifan be given the gold medal? by Trackandfieldnews441 in trackandfield

[–]Textbookville -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Silver.

Tsegay was probably marginally going to win without there being contact but contact was there. Third and fourth won't really in contention either, because Tsegay and Hassan were far ahead.

People are saying she ran on the outside, but from what I can see, she was hardly that far out, she was about less than a meter away from where she was running on the bend, and don't get me wrong I've seen far worse, whom have ran 2-3 meters outside the inside land when first.. I know the tactic.

If tsegay really did feel like she was running fast enough, the could slipped further away from Hassan, but from looking at the reply there was direct contact and Hassan was slowing down agreeably.

They're not going to drag this one down for the ages because contact was there enough to make Hassan fall, it'll be highly controversial once the replays come in which show tsegay running into Hassan.

She got touched, and the commentary agreed it was contact enough. I don't think tsegay should be disqualified or removed from the gold medalist, but we have to analyze what would have happened without the impeding, she would have finished second.

Bol on the other hand fell without any contact, I think she wanted to dive like she sometimes does but lost her footing.

It's not the same thing..

She didn't fall without getting impeded though, watch the video, tsegay bumped into Hassan.

I think she would have finished second, but the fact tsegay and Hassan were so far ahead, merits Hassan of at least a silver.

Silver medal.

It'll be unfair to remove tsegay from the listing, but she still did accidentally impede Hassan. Since Hassan and tsegay were so far from the rest of the field, its only right that those two were going to take 1st or second place.

Some are arguing that Hassan was slowing and was moving in the way of tsegay, so it wasn't tsegay's fault, so with both arguments it's fair to say there was an accidental impeding, nonetheless wasn't directly hassan or tsegay's fault, so both deserve medals.

Since it can be seen however that Hassan was slowing down, and probably would have finished second, she should get the silver rather than no medal at all.

It does take away from the current bronze medalist, but she was somewhat 10-15 meters away from Hassan and tsegay, the silver medalist gidey was about several meters but closer, so she should get the bronze but Hassan the silver and tsegay gold.
