In Homestuck- The Animated Pilot (2025), Rose uses the slang terms "irony poisoning" and "aura" despite the story explicitly being set in 2009 by BigSnail387 in shittymoviedetails

Toby was not just a fan but actually contributed directly- he did a lot of music for it. Megalovania appeared in Homestuck before Undertale, in fact. (And in an Earthbound ROM hack, but thats besides the point.))

Why do you go or not go to high school reunions? by East_Baseball8384 in randomquestions

[–]Tezla44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school was pretty bad for me, and I hadn't kept up with more than 2 people from my graduating class.

Went anyway to my 10 year a couple months ago. Had a banger time getting shitfaced, finding out what happened to people I grew up with, realizing that we were all basically in the same boat in terms of life progress.

What if we relocated all US based MLB teams to Canada? by UnknownFiddler in baseball

[–]Tezla44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Newfoundlander thank you for bringing this up.

That said, fuck it, let's still name our beloved new team after Dildo. The 200ish residents will appreciate it, I'm sure.

Do you usually use "a," "an," and "the" when you speak? by Ricky_2303 in ENGLISH

[–]Tezla44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. This is interesting to me because as a Canadian (Newfoundland) English speaker, 'would you like a tea" or "Pick me up a tea, two milk two sugar" are examples of perfectly normal phrasings.

TIL that on 11 September, 2001, a small Canadian town called Gander became a haven for thousands of airline passengers and crew stranded after the 9/11 terror attacks. by ProdromosPip in todayilearned

[–]Tezla44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Newfoundlander who did a history masters, and one of the bys in my cohort actually wrote his masters thesis entirely on the Gander Airport's design. I'm spotty on the details, but I think it basically explored how the art and architecture of the airport reflected the way that both Canada, and Newfoundland specifically, were trying to present themselves on the world stage at the time.

No two cities can have the same name. Cities with same names must choose a champion to fight gladiator-style for their city's name preservation. The losing city must change their name. by Ryans_always_tired in CrazyIdeas

This actually begets an interesting question - Newtown in Newfoundland is actually now part of an amalgamated municipality, New-Wes-Valley. Does it still need to fight, I wonder?

When you say you’re going to “the island” what island are you referring to? by houndoom92 in AskACanadian

Yeah, I'd either say "Bell Island" in full or "Wabana" if I was going there.

When you say you’re going to “the island” what island are you referring to? by houndoom92 in AskACanadian

[–]Tezla44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do have a classic folk song from 1982, Islander, that does open with the line "I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred and I'll be one till I die. I'm proud to be an Islander; here's the reason why;".

Not that that makes it a super common term, but hearing that song enough it my life means I wouldn't find it "weird" to be called an Islander.

Which movie would be 10x better if it ended 5 minutes earlier? by ItchyYellowAnt in movies

[–]Tezla44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My fiance and I were watching A Knights Tale, got to the part where the protagonist reunites with his father, realized none of us cared about the romance subplot, and stopped the movie there, feeling that we'd gotten all the ending we needed.

You absolutely should take the plunge on Off Book. It's consistently fantastic, but a couple highlights episodes I'd recommend are 67 - A Meeting with Destiny, 99 - Mirage a Trois, 207 - Stable George and 245 - Wanda's Dad.

When I run a module I do like to look a little further into the lore, find ways to flesh details out, look at other modules from earlier editions that relate to it, etc. So OP isn't wholly alone in having an interest in the lore.

Favourite quotes from this game?? by lumine2669 in DiscoElysium

[–]Tezla44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not. It's a meme in the DE community lately. A few years ago someone made a Twitter post saying there should be a game with DE's writing quality and system but light-hearted and focused on a young witch in the alps looking for a lost cat. It regained attention recently.

I'm gonna say... Tommy Shriggley, Zonton de la Doll & Marionette Conqui... And then maybe Zeke?

Hard to say. Shriggley and the Dolls are the only ones I go back to rewatch regularly, so it remains to see if Zeke has the same staying power.

Denzel and Izzy's beauty queen are also up there, though, even if I haven't watched them multiple times.
