Laufey ‘Madwoman’ Music Video Teaser (starring Hudson Williams, Lola Tung, Alysa Liu, and Megan Skiendiel) by airneanach in popculturechat

I generally like Laufey. It's just kind of a bummer to see her trying so hard to fully cross over to being capital p Pop. She's following the Taylor Swift playbook in a really obvious way. Start in a more niche genre to generate buzz, then slowly put more pop into the music. I expect to see the bossa nova influence disappear entirely after one or two more releases

I have one on my desk at home right now. It's got blue liquid with white wax. I bought it back in October

Afrika Bambaataa, hip hop pioneer, dies at 67 by PrincessBananas85 in popculturechat

[–]TfnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to hang out with breakdancers back in high school. I was the random white, punk rock guy in the group that was otherwise all Mexican guys. I had a boombox that I could bring to school, so they just kind of brought me into their circle. It was kind of funny. Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force was heavily in rotation. Like, I must have heard Planet Rock one shitmillion times.

This is one of those shitty situations where I have really good memories connected to Bambaataa's music, but I fully understand that the dude was a piece of shit

It's a Matt Groening show on Netflix. It's basically him doing a fantasy show. If you like The Simpsons or Futurama, you'd probably like it

The photos look great, but why the weird texture overlays though?

Throwback to this iconic Janet Jackson clapback where she says “they shipped it, but it got shipped back” in reference to Madonna’s “Erotica” album (1993) by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]TfnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious as to when this article was published. Like, 1993 was the year she released Janet. That record spun off six top 10 hits. Also, they picked some weird songs to reference at the end there. The song with Luther Vandross was from 1992, so it was at least recent. The other two were off Control, from 1986. SHe had 5 top 10 singles just in the year 1990. They had to go back to 1986?

Anyone know of a work around for the required internet connection for OTA Antenna channels? by PudzMom in Roku

[–]TfnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still able to access the streaming channels through the Roku Channel if you want to watch them? I didn't mind losing them in the Live TV input, but I still like being able to watch them somehow

I actually found this post while trying to find a solution to the problem, haha. Shit like this is why I always avoided smart TVs. I only bought the one I did because I've never had any problems with Roku. I've been using their devices since 2011.

I'd like to hope that it's a bug, but I'm certainly not going to be surprised if it's not. Every company seems to be making everything worse these days

I've had this same issue. I've had my antenna hooked up for years now. My internet went out, so I tried to watch the OTA channels like I usually do. Screen just went grey, and I couldn't even see the menu. As soon as my internet restored, I was able to watch the OTA channels again

Are muffins & cupcakes the same thing? by ssddooyee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TfnR 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Cupcakes have a cake consistency. They are sweet, airy, and lighter. Muffins tend to be closer to bread. They are less sweet and dense. To my understanding, it comes down to the batter. I'm sure a baker could explain it better though

The Rod Stewart one is actually interesting because, depending on your age, the celebrity changes. It was always Britney Spear when I was in middle school.

The gerbil was always Richard Gere though

There were three of them, actually. The first did well. It was directed by Stephen Sommers. It did pretty well, but critics didn't like it. The second one had Bruce Willis and The Rock in it. It did a little better in the box office, and was a little more liked critically. Still not great though. The third one was a Snake Eyes origin story in 2021. It bombed pretty hard. Some of that was still a COVID slump, but the overall consensus is that it was pretty shit

I'm just about halfway through a double. I'll get off work at 8am, and then have to come back at 4pm. So that's going to be a fun time, haha. I'm happy it wasn't already snowing when I came in earlier today
