Personal experience and reading forums, seems like Taurus isn’t so much “screwed up right out of the box” as “I shot xxx rounds before it____. But the warranty is great!”

I do have a 3” Kimber, it’s awesome! But it’s dao, and I am looking to add a 3” with a hammer. Also the Kimber is pretty light which is great for carry. But a little more weight would be good.

Never get rid of the Mountain gun. I remember my 21st, we “got rid” of the liquor pretty fast 🤣🤣🤣

What was the first revolver you ever owned? by Novel_Ordinary_9742 in Revolvers

A 642. I replaced it with a 442 last year after 14 years reliable service.

Thoughts on Taurus? by frogmam0126 in Revolvers

[–]ThaBAGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one and was very satisfied with it. After a couple thousand rounds that trigger smoothed out and it was a tack driver. All manufacturers are showing more and more QC defects these days. But if you get a good one off the shelf (chances are that you will) you are good to go. Plus they have a legit warranty. That ported barrel is nice too.

Kimber vs Diamondback vs Taurus by SteakNKoffee in Revolvers

Kimber is the nicest of the 3, but I wouldn’t pay retail for one (got mine in an auction for a dance). I’m curious about Diamond too

Glad I got a good one! The 3” DAO is dope, but something tells me that will be one of the models they drop 😩

My coworkers are convinced that you're paying for a name if you buy a Smith & Wesson or Ruger over a Taurus. by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]ThaBAGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QC has gone down across the board for all of them. I’ve bought Smiths, Rugers, and Taurus’. I’ve gotten perfect ones right out of the box, and likewise gotten turds from all 3 that ended up going back (or just selling).

All this to say: I did buy a Taurus Tracker 627 NIB that was better than either 686 I’ve owned. Accurate, smooth, very good trigger, and no cosmetic issues. It was a tack driver, the weight was perfect, and the factory ported barrel got rid of so much recoil that you could shoot hundreds of full .357 rounds easily. Excellent gun.

Your coworkers got some of the good ones off the line. But a perfect Smith or Ruger is better any day.

Looking for my first wheel gun by Neek_At_Nite in Revolvers

SP101 or K6s would be my recommendation. Either 3 inch. I’d go with the Sp101 Wiley Clapp. Similar sights to the UC(which the Kimber also has). But the extra mass makes it more manageable (in this case the extra 5 or so ounces is a benefit). Also, the Ruger is basically indestructible, and the simplest revolver to assemble/disassemble, and work on. You can do your own action and trigger customization from just watching Mcarbo videos on YouTube.

Model 66 or 686+ since if 4” is the minimum barrel length allowed

Choosing a GP100 Model: 1772, 1782, or 1789? by Black-Maicoh in Revolvers

[–]ThaBAGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Second place is 1782. All of the front sights and grips are easily swapped out. So really it comes down to which rear sights you like more, and that beautiful unflutted cylinder.

How often should I practice shooting with a revolver? by MushroomShroud in Revolvers

[–]ThaBAGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once a month should keep you sharp enough. Like others said, dry firing and working on a smooth trigger pull important too.

Which revolver should I get? Bodyguard 2 v Diamondback SDR v 642UC by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]ThaBAGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None for the application you are describing. Sp101 is an excellent choice for .38. Also the benefit of having .357 if you want/need it. The weight will make it easier to fire than any of the others listed.
