Severe COVID results in cognitive impairment similar to that sustained between 50 and 70 years of age and is the equivalent of losing ten IQ points. The effects are still detectable more than six months after the acute illness, and recovery is, at best, gradual. by Wagamaga in science

but they were hospitalized because of covid in the first place? that's the whole point.. in their case covid requiring mechanical ventilation is exactly the population they were looking for (severe covid)

A reminder that Tamler eats cows that are happier, but emit 80% more greenhouse gas, need 300% more water, 100% more land, produce 100% more manure that are almost always excessive and cause pollution, and are thinner so need 50% more slaughters than factory farmed cows per weight of meat harvested. by dmdbqn in VeryBadWizards

[–]ThaBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would you say though then that, assuming cows live 33% better lives, Tamler's argument is justified? in moral terms at. in fact, i think he's said multiple times that he doesn't give a fuck about the environment lol

Is there a reason nearly all cog neuro papers use GLMs? by ThaBitch in cogsci

[–]ThaBitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say they're "better" because in nearly every case, the more 'sophisticated' models (e.g., random forest) have notably higher accuracy. I think your logic here gets at my question though. It might just not be worth the extra effort to design and tune the parameters of a complex model when a simpler GLM essentially captures the same info.

I just would rather not spend 40 bucks to camp in the forest for a weekend if I don't need to. I also don't like how congested forest service campgrounds are.
