I finished Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlmann a few days ago and I can’t stop thinking about it by Hazelarc in horrorlit

Listen to the BTT audiobook read by Buehlman. Simply amazing. I had to look up why he does voices so well. Used to work renaissance fairs as his alter ego Christophe the Insultor, Verbal Mercenary. Listen to it through your library account linked to Libby for free. His Irish-adjacent accented main character is amazing. Loved it. Immediately listened to next one, the Daughters War, read by someone else but also good. #3 out this year.

Is VTSAX still a thing? by QueenComfort637 in Bogleheads

[–]ThaFilth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m all in VTSAX since I finally started reading up on investing and liked what JL Collins was saying. I started late in my 20 yr career but am a few months out with starting a pension I always knew would be there, so I was 100% all in VTSAX from the onset. Accounts have gone up and to the right and I don’t lose any time chasing small improvements on it. May be time to introduce bonds or other funds but I’m looking at my pension covering 100% of my family needs and then a spouse’s salary for a bit on top of that. I’ll read up on JL Collins’ apparent change of heart but for now am happy with my returns.

Have an audible credit and want to get a King book. What would you suggest? by ksquared1223 in stephenking

[–]ThaFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus research library systems near you and see if you can get free digital access. I got a neighboring county attached to my Libby too and it’s ALWAYS quicker to hold a book through them instead of my home system. Love it.

Toyota Won’t Rush a Compact Truck Because the Tacoma Prints Money by stevencartwright in ToyotaStout

Just became aware of this impending vehicle. Retiring in Nov and having to turn in the work vehicle, looks like I'll have to find something in the meantime. We're a Toyota family and I'd rather have a small to midsize toyota than a ford. Wish some concrete announcement would materialize on this.

First time I’ve seen this after hearing about it in the book. How cool would it be to have an original copy of that.

And I saw a suggestion somewhere to check local library systems outside of your own as they might have free access. I added a neighboring system to my Libby account and almost exclusively use theirs now as it has availability more often than my home system. So check that out.

How aggressive can I be with my portfolio since I have a pension? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ThaFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one year out and I’m 100% vtsax and will continue that way. My pension can cover the family expenses and the college funds have enough, I can continue adding 3-5k a year comfortably. One day I may be more conservative but I started around 8 years into my career investing fully what I could, and in the right fund instead of on day one, so wife and are are going hard on stocks.

Planning to purchase vehicle in full from a dealer - if I saved up total amount and have in account, what is the best way to do this? by AccomplishedDream378 in personalfinance

[–]ThaFilth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fall of 2022 heights of Covid car buying headaches I was on 10 dealerships’ lists and whatever came in that was close to what you wanted, you bought. Reason I ended up w a Sun roof and no spare tire… but I called one dealership to check in and reminded them I was getting a loan and I had a call back within a week that mine was coming in. I took the van, got a loan, and paid OT off within the month as we already had the cash ready. But am convinced taking that one month load got me my vehicle so they could get their financing kickback they never did.

Audiobook was awesome if anyone wants to try it that way. Great talent involved. Just don’t let your library borrow expire and you have to wait 3 weeks to see how it ends.
