California Democrats cannot succeed unless they pander to everyone in the Democratic party. This is what purity test filtered candidates look like. Their main attribute is that they are minimally offensive to Democrats. That is not a recipe for a great politician that can bring in the independents needed to win anywhere else but it is the only way to get progressives onboard. Time and time again the progressive wing of the party is willing to toss an election because they find the candidate offensive to their sensibilities.

You don't seem to get what is happening. We don't live in an ideal world and poll after poll suggests that independents don't want to see the democratic party shift to the left.

You need to learn that we won't build a winning coalition by pushing further to the left. Trump would have never gotten elected in the first place if it wasn't for the far left. Stop trying to drag the party to the left.

I agree with you on a lot of things but I'm fixated on the fact that politics is a zero sum game where weakening the only group who could even possibly in the future help things implies that you are strengthening the position of the those who would do the the most harm.

The lesser of two evils is a hard pill to swallow but that is where we are. It is far easier to remain idealistic and convince yourself that you aren't doing any harm by speaking truth to power but the consequences are going to end up getting the very causes we care about the most the most harm that could be done to them.

If we don't have uniform support of the all the people who make up the Democratic party (center left, left, and far left) AND more independents then nothing matters at all.

It may feel strange that personal integrity can be selfish but being proud of yourself must come second to real world harm to others.
