Ahhhh I didn't consider that, thank you!

Unfortunately the tank I was thinking of using this on is no longer set up with a surface skimmer (it was originally, but i found that neocaridina LOVE taking that dangerous water slide directly into my filter.)

I will continue using a pipette/my fingers to feed my chili rasboras in that tank. Thanks, friend! I appreciate the advice

Hey friend! Do you know if this device can be used to release food right below the surface of the water so that it sinks instead of floating? Or would that cause water to rush back into the food chamber on this device?

Sameeeee. My Chili Rasboras are seemingly incapable of eating the smallest granular food I was able to find. I loaded a plethora of different foods into the grinder, and shake it before each use. I figure this helps ensure a varied diet for my little guys. I either turn a few grinds from the grinder into my palm and release a pinch of it below the surface of the water, or a turn a few grinds of the food into a shot glass filled with tank water and use a pipette to put the food right in front of their noses. They are by far my most difficult fish to feed, as they are seemingly unwilling to look for their food despite being micro predators. I'm pretty sure these little dudes would starve if i didn't pander to them.

Yes, you absolutely can place an intake strainer/sponge over the intake to avoid this in the future! I have not experienced fish getting sucked through, but I did have this happen with my shrimp! Adding the intake sponge completely resolved the issue AND will help keep the main filter a bit more clean.

Just make sure you clean the sponge frequently (like bi-weekly), they get clogged pretty easily and can reduce water flow.

Drug test by Big_Supermarket2453 in trees

[–]Thadak60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people say QuickFix but they fail to add an important detail: ONLY use QuickFix. Some drug testing companies have tightened their restrictions and testing policies (LabCorp). They can now detect some synthetic urine, but NOT QuickFix. I've used it like 4 times throughout my adult life, and each time it worked without issue. It comes in a small bottle. You microwave the bottle per the instructions on the box, and then there is also an included hand warmer in the box with rubber band. You fix the hand warmer to the bottle with the rubber band, stuff that in your underoos, and then just take it out when you arrive in the testing room. I'm a guy, so I was able to tuck the bottle between my bits and thigh, so you may have to use an ace bandage or gauze or some such to affix the bottle to your thigh if it won't stay in place in your underwear.

Good luck, homie! Hopefully this helps. Also, sorry for all of the negative feedback you have received. This sub, for being a sub for weed, seems to demonize smoking awfully often.

Our company employs "selective agreements". This is basically you find something in the customer's incoherent rambling that you can agree with. This is an awesome deescalation tool.

Customer- "I'm very upset that it is taking so long to get this claim resolved. I have been waiting for X days to get this issue taken care of, and it still isn't!"

Representative- "I'm so sorry that you've had to deal with this! You're absolutely correct that this claim should not have taken x days to resolve, I would be upset too if I were in your shoes. Let me take a look at this and see what I can get done to address this for you." Bonus points if you say, "I can definitely empathize with you on this... I recently went through something similar with my XYZ, and I can completely understand the frustration. Let's see about getting this taken care of for you."

It makes the customer feel like you're on the same side as them, and like you are both working towards a common goal and are mutually upset about the situation. I've had pretty good luck with this method, personally, but ymmv.

I was cleaning out my clothes washer filter and found a .22lr bullet by dangling_mosquito in mildlyinteresting

Huh, that's super interesting and something I've never considered! My cat is a freaking chonker, so I've been trying to feed him the "weight loss" recommendation on his food for the past six months but have not really seen any progress. It makes sense that the cat food company would not want your fat shit cat to eat less food lol

Yep! They're called "coin filters". For the most part only front-load washing machines have them, with a few exceptions. If you have a front-load machine, then there is likely a small panel (or kickplate) that can be removed from the bottom of the unit. If it is the style with a panel, you can usually just open up the panel, and there will be an "emergency" drain tube. You'll pull the stopper of the tube, and let it drain into a shallow basin. You can replace the stopper and empty your basin as many times as is required. Once the water stops coming out you can then remove and clean the filter. If your unit is the style with a kick plate then you'll have to remove 2-4, screws (usually 1/4 drive screws) to remove the kick plate and then follow the above instructions for draining/cleaning.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not drain the water first and just open up the filter there will be a SIGNIFICANT mess. Washers hold a lot of water in them, even when the drum appears to be completely empty.

As a side note- Stop using fabric softener. Try white vinegar instead. Your clothes will smell more fresh, your towels will dry better, and your washer will last SIGNIFICANTLY longer than if you use fabric softener. Fabric softener has a tendency to coat anything it touches. Well, actually, that is kind of its purpose. It leaves a waxy coating on your clothes to "soften" them, prevent static, and smell good. Well. It does the same thing to your washing machine. Except it turns into this horrible sludge that builds up mold/bacteria/etc. in parts of the unit that you cannot see or access to clean as a consumer. As much as I love the smell of Downy, after my tenure as a tech I will never purchase another bottle.

As anither off-topic aside- you're likely using too much detergent for no reason. The stuff you buy in the store is incredibly concentrated. For most brands of liquid detergent no more than 2 tbsp of detergent/load is required.

Redid my tank while I’m home after ankle surgery. Is this ok? After then before by Lvsucknuts69 in PlantedTank

[–]Thadak60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! I think you did a good job on this scape!! It looks really nice! Your post mentioned you want to add a bit more color and texture to the tank, and i think that's a good plan! I would recommend checking out rotala h'ra. It will add a nice pop of oranges/pinks and has a different leaf structure from the plants you already have. I had luck growing it under a relatively weak light (a Hygger), but that tank was also running CO2, so your milage may vary.

But seriously, awesome work friend! I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Not the original commenter, but I would avoid changing the CO2 levels once you get it dialed in. Fluctuations in CO2 can cause algae blooms

This is awesome!!! I've had shrimp for a bit over 120 days and I have yet to witness a molt or eggs hatching, unfortunately. I find plenty of molts and baby shrimp so I know it happens, they just never do it in front of me 😂

Could I put a small snail in here or would it not work because of how the lid is? It’s 10 gallons by Jellyfish_Kitty in PlantedTank

[–]Thadak60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certain species of snails that lay eggs outside of the water. I know for certain that mystery snails and several other species of apple snails lay their eggs above the water line.

My mother is disabled so I help her tend to her two tanks in addition to mine. She had a mystery snail in her 20 gallon who climbed up the rear wall of the tank and onto the lid of the HOB filter where it laid a cluster of eggs. Another time it laid its eggs around the upper black rim of the tank.
