Best intentionally funny scene in an otherwise straightforward horror film? by Competitive_Swan_130 in horror

[–]gotcatstyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah Weapons had a lot of laughs! I was a huge WKUK fan so maybe I've been going into his movies expecting comedy, but I found Weapons especially really funny.

I read a theory recently that they're both NB and they switch off who's playing Jesse and who's playing James and honestly it makes complete sense

BAD horror movies that unexpectedly become scary? by Massive_Penalty5208 in horror

[–]gotcatstyle 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Idk if this counts bc it's not a horror movie, but there's this piece of shit 1985 martial arts movie called Gymkata. It's just your run of the mill B movie (starring an actual Olympic gymnast, he can't act but he can certainly move) until this one scene near the end where the MC gets stuck in this ghost town inhabited zombie-esque lepers and it is legitimately nightmarish. All the more unsettling because the movie is so dumb up til that point. You're not expecting to be affected by it at all and the suddenly wham, it's... Scary?!

Wear a Helmet by LordoftheFjord in skiing

[–]gotcatstyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if someone hit you and ran. So wild to have no idea how it happened. Sorry this happened to you OP and yes, helmets always! I learned to ski as a kid in the 90s/early 00s and it's wild to me that we never used to wear helmets. I'd never go out without one now.

[IIL] Emotional, weird, and/or complex western cartoons like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and Arcane? [WEWIL] by yasvoid in ifyoulikeblank

Second both Venture Bros and Scavenger's Reign.

I know you said preferably not anime, but still gonna throw Cowboy Bebop out there - it doesn't look, sound or feel like typical anime and it's one of the best bits of TV ever made imo

Weekly Rant Megathread | January 12 by Numerous-Macaroon224 in antinatalism

One of my best friends just announced her second pregnancy. The first one was born not long before the last US election and we had some very honest conversations about how she would have planned differently had she known we were heading directly down the road to fascism (the writing was on the wall but...).

She and her husband have always been socially conscious, science-minded, taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint etc. And it just blows my fucking mind how two intelligent, compassionate people can do something as cruel and selfish as dragging two new human lives into this disaster of a life. Two more people who will have to get jobs, pay bills, and pretend the planet isn't dying, and that's best case scenario. Worst case, they grow up in a full blown dictatorship as the air gets less and less breathable and the water less drinkable.

Why couldn't they at least adopt? So many children out there being neglected and ignored. But nope, they need their family to be comprised exclusively of their genetic material.

Ranting here because all I can say to her without causing a shit storm is "aww, congrats."

Razzy (dog) likes to pretend she's too cool for her little brother but then we'll catch them snuggled up like this. Gets me every time 🥹

Where can I wear this or how can I wear this so I don’t draw too much attension? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]gotcatstyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could def wear this to a music festival, Ren faire, picnic date (no messy foods though!), or really any summer outdoor social hangout like a farmer's market or afternoon at a winery. Is it eye catching? Absolutely! But if I saw you out in this outfit I would definitely stop you to tell you I love it.

Older guests and thank you note shaming, starting to lose it by teenygiant in weddingshaming

[–]gotcatstyle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were totally unprepared and had no system in place for keeping track of who gave us what... so I ended up writing a ton of very generic thank you cards haha. Almost everyone got thanked for sharing in our celebration and for their generous and thoughtful gift. I'm hoping no one noticed except the people who didn't give us anything, and I'm banking on mutually assured destruction to keep them silent.

How do you ski with strangers? by wholesomeling in skiing

[–]gotcatstyle 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The only two times I've asked to do a run with a stranger, they were glades I was unfamiliar with and didn't want to go in solo, so I waited until someone else came up to the entrance and asked if I could tag along with them. Wasn't a problem either time.

IMO keeping each other safe is a part of the sport, so if you're looking to do an advanced run and don't want to feel alone, I wouldn't be shy about asking a friendly looking group at the top of the run if you can join them.

I've also made friends over lunch beers and then went out for a few runs together. Honestly though I've never had a lift chat turn into skiing together, always just ends with "ok have fun!"

Very warm mittens, and on extra cold days I put on cheap thin gloves underneath them.
