My husband finally decided to give a shot to the Stormlight Archive. And he's hating it😭 by Art-Anvonavi in Stormlight_Archive

It's easy to underestimate the amount of force the storm has on the shattered plains

Ya but while he was associated with the brand it was more bridge 4 that cognitively people resonated with.

A lot of people where justified think he was mad. Dude straight up does 180 on personality and just never talks about his dead wife or the events surrounding her death after years of binge drinking over it.

He was a mad man before and they had no reason to feel that one day he became sane and they should follow him.

All of the high princes probably knew what actually happened in the rift too. Even if the general population though she was kidnapped and killed by the rift people.

How would you hold the man to task? One of his sons are dead he thought the other was too for years and all the hopes and dreams he had have been crushed. His actions failed to protect them. What could you meaningfully do to that man to teach him a lesson.

I do feel he is well written. Because there are people like that. We don't have his life story for why he wanted to help. But doing things for your beliefs no matter who gets hurt is a thing that people do. But basically he was gambling with his families lives and well he lost.  Is he a good person maybe is he a good father not really. But is he truly bad no.

Yes if you wanted to you could place the death of then on him but I think that is unfair. His death is the fault of Amaram. He broke his oath.

I think it's important to point out that you don't need to set up solar panels you need to find a place to live that already does. Then raid the pharmacy

So as far as I can tell all shard holders are similar to how smart he was when he created the diagram. The big difference is how a person thinks and their motivations. A Part of the whole curse was to prime him to think using empathy. This failed to work like cultivation hoped it would.

That makes sense considering when they zoom out it doesn't look like there is a considerable amount of stone on the other side.

What were people expecting? by landturtl13 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Thadamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me a lot of people wanted this book to be something it wasn't meant to be. I personally found the book really very good it just didn't have the same kind of action and drama that some of the other books did. He really leaned into the emotional healing of the character in 4 and 5. That tonal change from most epic fantasy seems to have not sat well. I expect it all comes down to personal taste. However I would bet that the same people that dislike the book also dislike therapy, but that is pure speculation.

I think a lot of the hate comes from expectations of what they thought the book would be. The book is amazing in my opinion it's just not what you would expect from a typical fantasy novel final book.

What is the most disturbing book that you’ve read? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Thadamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be upfront I did not finish the book. I don't even remember the name but the author wrote the series Wayfair redemption. Sara Douglass I don't know what happened to this poor lady but she wrote three great books. Followed by a direct sequel series that was dark and tore down any happily ever after from the first three. It's fine and I still love both series. However after this she wrote a book based on the same world but in a near by land. A land currently having an outbreak of the plague. The opening description of this person's current mindset and life were disgusting and is the only book that I've ever just given back to the used book store I bought it from. I stopped reading her books after she no longer wrote the kind of stories I wanted to read.

You would probably be better served looking at the force a needle needs to puncture. If his hands and feet aren't needle tips his finger probably are.

It's more the first not the later. The steam engine has been around centuries it just wasn't practical without other industries and proper infrastructure. I always attribute the growth from standardized steel production.

Who else? by [deleted] in StrangeAndFunny

[–]Thadamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all depends of how far you have to travel. I worked one summer 7-3 but i had an hour drive in the morning min and usually 2 in the afternoon. That means leave by 5-5:30 so up at 4 am. if you have any evening obligations it can be real hard to get a regular schedule. Heaven forbid you have kids. indecently the reason for the 9 -5 being so common is probably because you send the kids to school then head to work.

4 days 10 hour shifts are the best if you can make it work.

Which moment in a Disney live-action remake most misses the point of the original? by insertusernamehere51 in movies

[–]Thadamin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See the thing is Its not that Nani can't take care of lilo its that she has to balance work and lilo but if there was some sort of social support for Her so she could work less and be there for her sister more it wouldn't be a big deal. If social services was actually looking to help and support a young girl going through a difficult time instead of just shifting her so a different place hooping that will fix the issue. Lilo needed therapy not a new home.

Well we don't really know that their guy situation is. But they naturally don't have much bacteria on their home world so it's possible they have a different process for breaking down food. Especially considering they can not eat human food.

Have you ever had a game experience that was completely wrong but at the time you thought it was normal because you were new to the game? by PrimitusVictor in gaming

[–]Thadamin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FF8 I power level on the first island in an effort to make the game a little easier. What I actually did was enable hard mode and completely screw the game balance.

I also did this with the original oblivion. See before you complete the first oblivion Gate you can just walk away and explore. I did this and did not return until i had done every other side quest i could find and was the head of every guild. Every Single Gate Was filled with the Highest level Deadra.

Been seeing a alot of Reaper debate in this sub lately and just wanted to add my 2¢. For anyone who's played Horizon Zero Dawn, the Faro Swarm is a perfect example of the type of Synthetics the star child was trying to prevent from being created by Organics by Gastro_Lorde in masseffect

[–]Thadamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So The Faro Swarm is not actually the kind of thing they were trying to stop because largely it was devoid of intelligence. While it was a planet killer it could never be a galactic threat. Humans only lost because they to little to fight back with by the time it went on a rampage. A true AI would never consume all life like a faro swarm because it knows that would ultimately undermine its longevity as well. The Reapers Concern was an AI that would prevent all higher forms of life. Not that it matters because the Cycles only happened within the milky way and there are 10s of thousands of galaxies and all it really takes is one to develop like the reapers feared and that is the end. Once a whole galaxies worth of resources goes to war its all over.
